The Sutherland Sharks welcome the players and officials from APIA Leichhardt Tigers and

all the supporters of both teams to Seymour Shaw tonight. Its only early days but already the Tigers have shown their teeth in winning their first two games of the 2017 season. The Sharks have gone down by the odd goal in their first two encounters, Manly United 3-2 and 2-1 against Blacktown City but history tells us that the home encounter against APIA brings the best out in the Sharks and we are looking forward to an exciting open game tonight.

New signing Wade Oostendorp was Man of the Match in our first home game and he and Nick Littler will be leading the way in dulling the Tigers significant strike power. Tomohiro Kajiyama has continued his great form from last year, bagging a goal in each of the first two games. He is an exciting player who will be a constant threat to the APIA defence.

Goalkeeper Nathan Denham is in his ninth season at the Sharks and has achieved the very significant milestone of playing 200 first grade games for the Sharks. In an era where there is extensive player movement it is gratifying to have a player that has added so much to our club on and off the field. We congratulate Nathan on this achievement.

Still on the theme of longevity, APIA President Tony Raciti enters his 40th year at the helm of the iconic APIA Club and doesn’t look like slowing down in his drive to make the club successful.

The Sharks under 20’s again demonstrated their class with a dominating win over competition

favourites Blacktown City 4-1 after defeating last year’s premiers Manly United in round 1. Jeremy Cox showed he is knocking on the door for the first team with two classy goals. Coaches Nick Dimovski and Steve Gordon will be looking for another strong showing from their talented group again tonight. The 18’s will be looking to get on the winners list tonight after a couple of losses that could have gone either way.

The Sutherland Sharks SAP under 9’s will entertain us during the breaks tonight. They have been training hard and are keen to demonstrate their skills. The club has a group of under 12’s who will be travelling to Spain to in April to represent the club in the MIC Cup. They will be introduced during the half time break tonight and we wish them all the best for their football adventure.

I hope everyone enjoys the game tonight and we celebrate a Sharks win.

It must feel like Groundhog Day for Sutherland Sharks fans. Just like last season, their team

is playing entertaining attacking football but struggling to win matches.

Coach Carlos Villazon has developed one of the best teams to watch in the competition, but the Sharks are a side which lacks the killer edge required to win tough games.

This week they will be desperate to win their first game of the year when they host the undefeated APIA Leichhardt Tigers.

APIA has started this season on fire and is rewarding their supporters for returning after a horror 2016.

It is sure to be an entertaining clash.

Blacktown City 2 - Sutherland Sharks 1 at Lily’s Football Stadium

Daniel Araujo’s brace has helped Blacktown City notch their first PlayStation®4 National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s competition win of 2017 with a gritty 2-1 victory against Sutherland Sharks.

The former Sydney FC man struck shortly before the interval at Lily’s Football Stadium, and then again fifteen minutes before full-time, to claim the three points for the reigning champions who overpowered Sutherland in a dominant second-half.

Although Carlos Villazon’s side forced an excellent equaliser through Tomihiro Kajyiama, Blacktown’s failure to capitalise on there chances held back the home side. Sharks goalkeeper Nathan Denham was in fine form with a string of fine saves to hold City at bay.

Instead, Sutherland were made to pay for allowing Araujo, who had earlier opened the scoring by hammering home a loose ball in the area, to drift into the penalty box unmarked late in the second half and guide Danny Choi’s cross into the ground and over Denham for the winner.

APIA Leichhardt Tigers 2 - Hakoah Sydney City East 0 at Lambert Park

APIA Leichhardt maintained their flawless start to the PlayStation®4 National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s competition season with a 2-0 win against Hakoah Sydney City East on Sunday.

Two goals in five minutes just before the break, courtesy of Nathan Millgate and Jordan Murray, were the difference for the home side as they secured their second victory in as many weeks.

It was a tough night at the office for Hakoah who were forced to play the majority of the match with 10 men after Neil Jablonski was sent for an early shower in the 25th minute for a rash challenge.

It wasn’t a perfect display from the home side who also had a player sent off when Paul Galimi recieved a red card in the 69th minute.

UNDER 20s

Sutherland Sharks are laying an early claim to the tag of championship favourites after

starting the season with two resounding wins over Manly United and Blacktown City.

With nine goals scored in two fixtures Nick Dimovski’s side are hot property and it will be a hugely difficult test for the visiting APIA Leichhardt side who have begun the campaign with two 2-1 losses to Sydney United 58 and Hakoah Sydney City East.

Sutherland’s top scorer from the 2016 campaign Jeremy Cox notched his first two goals of the season in last Saturday’s 4-1 hammering of Blacktown City and the APIA defence will need to carefully marshal the speedster, and the likes of Matias Da Silva Santos and midfielder Thomas Papa, if they are to avoid a third straight defeat at Seymour Shaw.
