Background & ContextRecovery of water, nutrients and energy is a very high priority, as half the world’s popula -tion is predicted to live in water stressed areas by 2025, and agricultural resources are also being depleted. This scenario is further aggravated by the frequently inadequate man-agement of liquid and solid wastes in urban and peri-urban areas of low- and middle-in-come countries, which leads to the untreated disposal of waste streams, and associated subsequent human and environmental health risks.
The Atelier is part of a series of advanced business development activities conducted as part of the Resource Recovery and Safe Reuse (RRR) Project Phase II. The RRR-II Pro-ject is implemented by the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) and the GIZ Reform of the Urban Water and Sanitation Sector (RUWASS) Programme. It is co-funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
About the cewas Smart Start-Up Programmes 2016 - KampalaThe Business Model Development Atelier is an entry point to one of two by-invitation-only cewas Smart Start-Up Programmes (Batch 1 & 2) that will be jointly conducted by cewas, MUBS and CEDAT in cooperation with GIZ-RUWASS and KCCA.
cewas Smart Start-Up Programmes are in-depth business model and pre-business plan trainings and coaching that are facilitated by means of 2 modules (A & B), which have to be considered as one training-cum-coaching package. Module A (4 workshop days) of Batch 1 will tentatively take place in end-January and Module B (4 workshop days) in end-February 2016, respectively. Module B includes preparation for a half-day Road Show that allows participants to present their innovative business ideas to and interact with key stakeholders of the Ugandan water, sanitation and resource management sector.
The cewas Smart Start-Up Programmes are designed around the Business Model Can-vas, an entrepreneurial tool for describing, analysing, and designing business models and driven by one-on-one coaching - promoting immediate workplace transference - facilitating the development and consolidation of 1) the business idea, 2) the business model and 3) a pre-business plan.
The cewas Smart Start-Up Programmes 2016 will be offered to a maximum number of 8 companies per batch at a cost of UGX 100.000,- per company. To take full advantage of the offered training, participation of two or more persons per company (e.g. business own-ers, entrepreneurs, middle- to top-level personnel, etc.) is strongly advised.
