Senior school has been visiting the wetlands to look at how they are formed and the types of species that live in there. A small group has also been involved in the EPRO8 Problem Solving activity at another school. A key focus across the school at present is Matariki and as you move around the school you can see the vibrant learning that is taking place. The beautiful food smells coming from Hub Two’s activities on Friday was enough to make any one hungry! Mr House's Sabbatical Leave Earlier in the year I applied to the Ministry for a Sabbatical, which means a terms leave from school to study and recharge, and is an entitlement for Principals every 5 years through application. This is my 12th year as a Principal and I've never applied until now, so am really pleased to have been successful in my application. My sabbatical is for Term 3 and next week I am away in Melbourne with the Western Bay Principal's Association, so this is my last week at school until returning in Term 4. Mrs Keys will be Acting Principal during my sabbatical and Miss Fly and Mrs Daniels will be supporting in terms of the DP role, and some of Mrs Keys day to day responsibilities. It will be business as usual at WBS and the team are all excited about leading in dierent capacities in our school. Have a great nish to what has been an amazing term, and I am sure Term 3 will see the exciting learning that is happening right across the school continue to ourish. I look forward to my return in Term 4 with a fully recharged battery and inspired by some of my new learning too. Garden Design For the last 2 weeks Hub 3 have started working on the vege garden to be located between Kowhai/Karaka and Koromoko. Many thanks to the parents who have come along on a Tuesday or Wednesday aernoon to help. To date it’s been a lot of talking and planning. We are happy to report that in the last 2 weeks of term we will see a great deal of progress as we have now pulled the resources from dierent parts of the school to launch fully into the project. We still require some things to make the job successful. Things we are looking for are : timber, nails, soil, compost, seeds, seed containers, gardening tools you no longer need and paint. If you have these lying around and would like to support this awesome project, please contact a Hub 3 Teacher - Mr Stirling, Whaea Beccy or Whaea Kylie UPDATE - Teacher Union Meeting Once again a very big thank you for supporting our teachers last week while they attended their union meeting. Teachers across New Zealand have voted and are awaiting the results nationwide as to whether they will be striking. We will keep you up to date on this. Currently, a proposed strike date is the 15th of August. There are significant education issues being discussed with the government. We want the best education we can give our tamariki in the future and appreciate your support moving forward to help us bring these issues to the forefront.
