24 APRIL 2020 NEWSLETTER Kia ora Dalefield Whānau, I am in awe of your resilience, resourcefulness and support in this challenging time for New Zealand and the rest of the World. I am just wanting to touch base with where things are at for Dalefield School. Our school is open from next Wednesday for those families that need to have their children at school. When New Zealand moves from Level 4 to Level 3, not a great deal changes and families are asked to where they can, keep children at home and work from home. For some families, keeping children at home is not an option which I fully understand and support. We at Dalefield School are privileged to do our part to support essential workers to return to work. I want also to acknowledge the efforts families have been putting into their children and time together. The emails I’ve received have been humbling and positive and reflect the input and resourcefulness our Dalefield Whānau have shown. I want also to acknowledge the professionalism and resourcefulness of my staff at this time who are thinking outside the square to make the learning opportunities as positive and value- added as possible - thank you. We may have up to five children present and they will be in two bubbles at the school. I will be in touch with the families of children who will be back at school dalefield.school.nz 1 ANZAC HOLIDAY Monday 27 April TEACHER-ONLY DAY Tuesday 28 April DISTANCE LEARNING CONTINUES Wednesday 29 April DECISIONS ABOUT LEVEL 2 11 May

Kia ora Dalefield Whānau, I am in awe of your resilience, resourcefulness and support in this challenging time for New Zealand and the rest of the World.

I want also to acknowledge the professionalism and resourcefulness of my staff at this time who are thinking outside the square to make the learning opportunities as positive and value-added as possible - thank you. We may have up to five children present and they will be in two bubbles at the school. I will be in touch with the families of children who will be back at school

on Tuesday (teacher-only day) and will talk through the way we will operate the drop off and management within the school etc.

Zoom, Google Meet and hangouts etc. have become the new norm for many of us and I have been so impressed at how the majority of our older students have embraced self-management and time management, not to mention our virtual staff meetings!

Next Tuesday 28 April is a New Zealand-wide teacher-only day. Dalefield staff are holding their teacher-only day virtually and will be spending the time planning, organising and preparing for the next few weeks. Staff will not be interacting directly with students on this day but will resume the online learning environment from Wednesday 29 April.

The 11th May will be when we find out whether the country will move into Level 2 which will mean many more families will choose to send their children to school. I will be keeping in touch with you.

Staff are available during normal school hours for any questions you may have and email addresses are as follows:

Willy Jephson [email protected]

Cath Carroll [email protected]

Jeanette Stokes [email protected]

Janelle Wilson [email protected]

I can also be contacted at:

[email protected] for any other matter.

More than ever, schooling has to be seen as a partnership that benefits the students’ learning and well-being. Please check in, support and encourage your children to be active participants in learning. We are at Dalefield reflect the best of what we can be. Please reach out and support other families to foster success at this time and beyond.
