Southwest District Kiwanians,

This Kiwanis year has started off quickly. There are two new clubs: The Kiwanis Club of Great-

er Bernalillo and The Kiwanis Club of Los Lunas. We are also growing our existing clubs with

all your efforts. New Service Leadership Partners have been added. It is an exciting time to be

in the Southwest District!

January, we are starting off the next quarter by building another two clubs. Tony Gutowski is

leading this effort and has a great team in place. There are plans to help our existing clubs

grow. If you feel you need some help, please contact me and we will put a plan together for

you.

Please start looking forward to our MidYear Conference in Las Cruces in March. We have a

new format that has added in more social and fun time than ever before. When we work

hard, we need to play hard! Look for the details soon as Lt. Governor Alma Carson and her

team make this the best Conference ever.

Maple and I wish you the happiest of New Years and hopefully a prosperous one as well.

Service Begins with Commitment

DOES YOUR CLUB HAVE A SIGNATURE PROJECT?

Signature projects show the impact a Kiwanis club can have on a community. From playgrounds and parks to festivals and fundraisers, signature projects are the hallmarks of what Kiwanis clubs are known for in their communities. Kiwanis International will again sponsor the Signature Project Recognition Program for districts in 2019. Ten finalists will be selected and the top three selections will be recognized as the gold, silver and bronze winners at the 2019 Kiwanis International Convention. Every district may submit one club-level project. It's up to the district leadership to decide which project should be submitted. Entries are due by noon EST Monday, March 4, 2019 to International and will be submitted by the District secretary. Only one submission per district will be allowed, and all districts are encouraged to participate. What is a signature project? Think about what your Kiwanis club is known for in your community. It can be a service project, event or fundraiser. Signature projects:

• Are recurring. (Note: A new project can qualify as a signature project if the intent is to continue the project.)

• Enhance the Kiwanis brand

• Demonstrate significant impact on the community in terms of monies raised or children served

• Strengthen membership and partnership opportunities

This logo, which is affectionally known as “the Birdcage”, is no longer authorized by Kiwanis International and it’s use should be discontinued.

Please don’t misunderstand the new guidelines. Almost all of us have this logo on our club banner, and that is ok. There is no need to run out and buy a new banner. The ‘birdcage’ may remain on items already purchased or created. This guideline applies to all new items (such as letterhead, email signatures, coffee cups, aprons, tee-shirts etc.) the ‘birdcage’ must not be used and one of the approved authorized logos used.

Kiwanis International has been helping children for 104 years. We do this by providing services to children

who need them most, and by working with youth programs to instill the benefits of volunteer service while

providing youth leadership opportunities.

It’s important to make sure our brand and trademarks are used properly. That’s why Kiwanis requires ven-

dors to obtain a license when they prepare products for your club with any Kiwanis family logo. Licensing

vendors helps protect our brand, ensuring that we will be here to help children and provide continued op-

portunities to our youth programs for years to come.

This is a brief overview pleas click for full information and the licensing program all club must follow.

Photo by Tony Gutowski At their November 28th meeting, the Carefree Kiwanis Club celebrated the contributions Herb Hayde made to their club and as Past Governor of the Southwest District. During his

tenure as Governor (2007-2008), three new Kiwanis and 11 Sponsored Leadership Partner clubs were opened. Herb and his wife are moving out of the District to be near his daughter. The celebration was well attended, including many club members, Executive Director Emeritus and Past Governor Rose Ann Haw, and Past Lt. Governor Alan Tonelson (Division 9).
