Dear Reader,

GPIC has witnessed a promising start in the first quarter of this year, a start that has reflected the amount of effort invested daily in seizing new opportunities

I was given the opportunity to personally convey the outstanding reputation and great image of the company’s success when I had the privilege to accompany HRH King Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa during his last tour of Asia, through which he hoped to promote the Kingdom of Bahrain as a promising island full of opportunities for new business ventures.

In other news, GPIC was further marked out for its success after becoming the first company in the Gulf region to successfully comply with all the requirements of the British Standards Institution and obtain certification for PAS 99, which is the first integrated management system in the world.

The company has also been as active as ever in its various environmental activities, devoting great efforts over the years to caring for the environment and promoting sustainability measures. In recognition of our continued work in these areas, we have received the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia award for Environmental Management. In this issue, you will see many more such examples of our commitment that will reveal the amount of interest directed by

3

GPIC to the care and conservation of the environment.

This issue will also include highlights of the company’s various corporate social responsibility activities, including our participation in many community support events. Through such development programmes, GPIC hopes to contribute to the advancement and betterment of the wider society of Bahrain, which we see as the key to our current and future success.

The success, awards and new records we have achieved, are no doubt due to the company’s ‘one team family spirit’ and everyone’s commitment to executing the company’s strategy whilst taking all standards of safety and preservation of the environment into consideration. Thus, appreciation must go to each and every individual member of this company who has given and sacrificed so much to accomplish these feats and maintain the excellent activities, reputation and results enjoyed by this company.

I hope you enjoy reading more about our activities.

Best regards,

Dr. Abdulrahman Jawahery

HM the King visits India and lays a Solid Foundation for a New Economic Partnership

For the fourth time in less than two years, HM the King travelled to the Republic of India, one of Bahrain’s most important economic partners in the region. The GPIC President, Dr. Abdulrahman Jawahery, had the privilege of being, as on previous visits, a member of the economic delegation accompanying the King, where he was pleased to witness first-hand the success achieved by these Royal visits, which provide an opportunity for Bahrain to build a strong alliance with other regions of Asia.

Welcomed by President Pranab Mukherjee, HM the King of Bahrain and his accompanying delegation, held discussions in which they reviewed bilateral relations and discussed a number of regional and international issues of common interest. Later, they met the Indian Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh at his Palace in Hyderabad and at the headquarters of the Indian government in New Delhi, during which, the intimate atmosphere

reflected the depth of relations between the two countries. The roots set down over many years bear witness to the historical dimension of long years of trust and cooperation between the two countries and peoples alike.

In the presence of the Indian Prime Minister and the King of Bahrain, various Memorandums of Understanding between the two countries were signed, including a Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation in the fields of youth and sports, and the desire to create a high joint committee for bilateral cooperation between the governments of the two countries, as well as a Memorandum of Understanding between the Foreign Service Institute, the Ministry of External Affairs of India and the Diplomatic Academy of the Bahraini Foreign Ministry.

The visit provided a new opportunity to express the strong relations between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the friendly Republic

of India; also, the delegation from Bahrain, which included Ministers and businessmen, witnessed the progress made by the Republic of India at all levels.

During the visits of the King to friendly Asian countries, which included, in addition to India, China, Japan and the Kingdom of Thailand, the most striking aspect was the warmth of the welcome and the extraordinary hospitality, which reflected the high regard in which the leaders of those countries hold the Kingdom of Bahrain.

HM showed his great sense of national importance not only at the political level, but also on the economic level, where the promotion of economic development and industrial diversification became of common interest. This helped to create an Asian tour with a solid foundation for the further development of friendly relations between the Kingdom of Bahrain and these countries.
