Greetings Fellow Lions,
Our first meeting of February was held on Thursday, February 7th at 6:30 pm at University Place onthe campus of Potomac State College. We had a very unique program. Mineral County Deputy Rob Smithbrought his drug sniffing dog and he and Lion Sheriff Jeremy Taylor provided some very interestinginformation about the dog and its exploits. Check out the picture on the Keyser Lions Facebook page.
Our second meeting took place on February 21st at the same time and place. Our guest speaker wasKristi Athey. She gave a fascinating presentation on the history of the RMS Titanic and her voy-age along the Titanic’s path to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the ship’s sinking.
On Monday, February 25th over 80 teachers from Mineral County were given training on the LionsQuest curriculum. “Lions Quest programs are comprehensive, positive youth development andprevention curricula that unite the home, school and community to cultivate capable and healthyyoung people of strong character. Lions Quest K-12 programs teach essential life skills that supportcharacter development, social and emotional learning, civic values, substance and violence pre-vention, and service-learning.” (http://www.lions-quest.org/) Members of the Keyser Lions Clubprovided financial and logistical support to this all day event. Lions Dallas Adams, Sandy Parker, and Gary Van Horn have been working hard to bring this program to Mineral County. Thanks to allof our Keyser Lions who came out and supported this event including: Greg Lynch, Jim McCune,Dave Boden, Larry Bolyard, John Cole, Joe Bane, Duwain Nichols, Scott Gahr, and Mark Conrad.
