Keyboard Shortcuts Guide

Hello Everybody!

Do you want people look at you like you know what are you doing?

Do you want to act like a pro Information Technology Associate IV?

Do you want to impress your friends from the office?

Do you want to look like the hackers from the movies that are just typing in a keyboard and somehow zoom in a photo and “Enhance it” with like 3 key strokes?

All that might be impossible with enough imagination and this guide!

Before we begin, here are the things to know:

This is the Windows Key it will be your best keyfriend (it’s a thing) this will be the most used key with these shortcuts, so if you see win I am talking about that key.

Also you will see a + (plus) this does not mean the key mmkay?

For example if I say press Win + D it means press and hold the Windows Key, then press on the letter D

if I say Win + + in that case means press the Windows Key then .

If you see a (number bar) means the numbers on the top, (arrows) arrows on the keyboard etc….

Now that we have that out of the way lets go!

I’ll start with the universal commands everybody should know (it will increase your productivity by approximated 34.23% with a 95% Confidence interval)

Ctrl+C: Copy a selected item

Ctrl+X: Cut a selected item

Ctrl+V: Paste a selected item

Ctrl+Z: Undo an action

Ctrl+Y: Redo that thing I just undid

Ctrl+A: Select everything

Ctrl+P: Print

Buckle up, there is some more

Windows 7: Most of you have windows 7 (Desktop, and Laptops) and Windows 8(Surface)

There is no Order, is the order I use or remember things.

Win + D: One of my favorites (minimizes everything) (pretty much shows your desktop) If you press it once it minimizes everything. If you press it again it maximizes (brings back as they were) everything.

Alt + Tab: Switch between applications, (hold alt, press tab (do not release alt) press tab to switch between software. Release and enjoy)

Win + E: Open the file explorer (that little yellow folder that is in the taskbar)(contains, documents, This Pc, I-Drive, Etc…)

This is for the double monitor people (also works with single monitor)

Win + (left or right arrow keys): if you have a software open like word, and press Win + the software will go 50% of the screen to the left (as long as the software is selected) Win + (right arrow) 50% to the right. You see how it works?

Win + (Up or Down arrow keys): Win + (UP arrow): This will maximize (make full screen) the current software you are one. Win + (UP arrow): this will minimize the current software you have.

Win + Shift + (left or right arrow): This will switch the whole software window to another screen (multiple monitors only)

Win + P: this will switch between screen modes (Extend is for Dual) (not that important for you)

Ctrl + (Scroll Wheel): Zoom Zoom! You can zoom in or out! Hold Ctrl and scroll with your mouse up or down Try it!

Win + Shift + (Click any item of the taskbar): This will open a new page/document. Etc… try it. Click on this word document while holding Win + Shift. You just opened a new word. Skill? I don’t think so, Magic? Exactly

Win + (number bar) allow me to elaborate:

For example: if you do Win + 2: what do you open?

A. Firefox!B. Google Chrome (the colorful circle with a huge red NUMBER 2 on top)C. My house?D. All of the above

Yes! It is B, nice job!

Win + L: Going to a meeting? Going to the restroom? Going to say hello to the neighbor? Press that, it will lock your device (you will need to unlock it with your password) we need to be secure in the office so do it!
