Resurreccion 1 st Semester Instructor Total Credit: 2 units Total Number of Hours: Course Title: KEYBOARD HARMONY 1a Course Description: This course is a hands-on introduction to variety of practical keyboard styles and techniques. Students will focus on expanding their knowledge of chords and scales so that they have fluency working at the keyboard. Once these basics are mastered, students will begin learning techniques of improvisation and the specifically idiomatic traits of certain keyboard styles, including rock, blues, funk, jazz and classical. General Course Objectives: It is the primary aim of this course to develop among MAPEH students conducting skills, that is, to be able to interpret and conduct written musical scores. Secondary, it will provide knowledge of the wide array of materials in the choral repertoire. Specific Objectives: Cognitive 1. Develop a mastery of major and minor chords and scales. 2. Gain familiarity with charts based on modern chord symbol nomenclature Psychomotor 1. Learn the practical techniques to perform in a variety keyboard styles

Create original interpretations of selected piecesEvaluative Measures: Attendance; Performance Exams/Written AssignmentsRules, Regulations & Notes: It is expected that you already have basic keyboard skills, including a knowledge of major/minor chords and scales. It is also expected that you can read easy piano music. Attendance is required. You are allowed 2 absences for any reason. After that, you are allowed two additional emergency absences that require appropriate documentation. After that, each absence will lower your final grade by 1 point. Please arrive on time and stay for the full class. Each tardy or early-out will count as half an absence. You must provide your own laptop and bring them for use in every class. If you dont have please bring music writing book. All of the music for this class will be shared as softcopy. You will be responsible for making your own print-outs if necessary. You must have a metronome or metronomic type device (such as smatphone with a metronome application). There will be no eating or drinking in class. Cell phones must be silenced and put away during class.Performance Exams/Written Assignments: 90% of your grade in this class will be determined by performance exams and written assignments. There will be several of these throughout the semester. Each performance exam/written assignments will be graded on a scale of 100 percentage points. Your final grade (for this category) will be determined by you average score at the of the semester. Even though you will be spending a substantial amount of time working independently, there will be definite due dates for all performance exams and assignments.
