Audience

Why do audiences read magazines? What do we expect from a music magazine?

-A lot of people read magazines for reviews of the latest songs/ albums.-There is information about latest gigs, festivals and concerts.-Also inform the readers about latest award shows e.g. VMA’S.-You can get a personal look into the music industry.-A lot of extra freebies and competitions/interviews exclusive to certain magazines.-Extra information and exclusive pictures of people favourite celebs.

The pleasures and benefits; People like freebies and the chance of winning competitions. Personal realtionships with the magazine and celebrities. Part of a community. Never ending story which is released relatively frequently.

Why do people still read music magazines when they have the internet?

It’s a physical and potentially expensive item. Reading magazines allows people to experience and come across new

artists. Don’t need access to internet and can read magazines anywhere. Easier to find certain topics and to show your friends. You can see the effort and work put into a physical product.

Representation Hip Hop Hip hop is aimed at both sexes male and

female. Both the younger and older population listen to hip hop as it is mainstream and played everywhere e.g radio.

It is well known for being mainstream and one of the biggest genres.

Iconography;-Bright colours-Big bold fonts-A lot of concerts and live shows at festivals and also on TV shows e.g top of the pops.-Instruments e.g guitar drums-Normally single icons e.g 50 cent.

Institution The magazine NME gets its money from its circulation 20,011

copies sold per week (on average). Also they make most of their money by advertising. To advertise in a NME magazine its costs £6920 per advert.

Kerrang magazine has wider assets and gets a wider audience as they have a radio station, website and a tv channel.
