Keppelite I November 2011

rise to the challengeIn conjunction with the Keppel Group Safety Convention this month, Chief Safety Champion Mr Chandru Sirumal rajwani, shares an important safety message with Keppelites.

Our annual Keppel Group Safety Convention continues to be a platform for reflection on improvements and motivation to progress on our safety journey.

Our theme this year, Safety is everyone’s business, cannot be more timely.

2011 has been challenging. In spite of tremendous efforts, we recorded a poor Accident Severity Rate performance the past year. Even as we are tested to the extreme, we must not give up or let down our guard. Instead, we must glean from hard lessons learnt and emerge stronger.

I feel very passionately about our theme this year; as does the safety team. We are of the strong conviction that a safe workplace starts first and foremost with collaboration from all stakeholders.

The safety journey is a continuous one. The road before us will not be easy, but with commitment from management and equal determination from every Keppelite, we can reach our goal.

As I was sharing about the indomitable Keppel spirit in the face of challenges with the 800 odd Keppelites at the Convention, I also thought about the rest of the 40,000 Keppelites across the Group that we must reach out to with our safety message.

Communication is the key in reaching our workforce. We want to nurture a culture where workers are engaged and encouraged to take up ownership and where we sharpen the supervisory skills of those who lead in changing mindsets.

We need to share our experiences – exchange lessons learnt across business units so that fresh ideas for breakthroughs can be garnered. We have introduced the “Cross Pollination Programme” where safety personnel from Singapore and

overseas as well as across business units learn from and share best practices with one another.

One of the communication platforms we have initiated is the newly-launched e-Safety portal which will provide another powerful avenue to drum in the message of constant vigilance particularly in the area of high impact risk activities.

In Keppel Offshore & Marine yards, we have embarked on Plus 5 for Safety where daily toolbox meetings are enhanced. Through this initiative, our workforce is equipped to sharpen their observation abilities in identifying and preventing potential hazards, while supervisors are honed on their leadership and mentoring skills. This will not be exclusive to our yards in Singapore and there are plans in other business units and overseas yards to adopt and adapt the programme.

If each and every one of us observes safety as a way of life, we can achieve our Keppel WSH 2018 vision – that is for “everyone at all our workplaces to go home safely every day.” Everyone means me, and you, as well as our partners, subcontractors and vendors.

I am confident that slowly but surely, a stronger safety culture will take deeper root and flourish in our worksites, shipyards and offices. We have a strong team who will not give up and is committed to build on what we have been doing right, as maintaining the Accident Frequency Rate at six times better than Singapore’s as a whole is no small feat.

As we move on in our journey, I know I can count on Keppelites to rise to the challenge.

Keppel Telecommunications & Transportation Ltd (Keppel T&T) through i ts jo int venture, Keppel Logistics (Foshan) Limited (KLF), officially opened its new distribution centre in Foshan, Guangdong Province on 21 November 2011.

Since 1995, KLF has been operat ing Lanshi port , which is along Pearl River in Foshan. With the opening of Nanhai Distribution Centre (NHDC), KLF will add another 35,000 sm of warehousing space and manage a total of over 100,000 sm of warehousing space in Guangdong Province.

The opening of NHDC marks Keppel T&T’s third expansion milestone in China for 2011.

Keppel T&T expands footprint in Guangdong

On the opening, Mr Pang Hee Hon, CEO of Keppel T&T, said, “We hope to build on our experience in Foshan and replicate our success in offering integrated port logistics and other logistics services in other parts of China. In the long term, we believe that China’s demand fo r s eam le s s efficient logistics solutions will continue to grow.”

Earlier in September, Keppel T&T signed a joint venture agreement with Sinotrans Ltd. to jointly develop and operate a river port along Yangtze R iver, serv ing Wuhu City, Anhui Province and the central region of China. In January 2011, it also signed the land use rights agreement for the

development and operation of a green integrated logistics distribution centre in the T ianjin Eco-City, marking Keppel T&T’s first and significant step into North China.

Featuring modern facilities, the new distribution centre is located 20km away from Guangzhou (capita l of Guangdong Province) and near major expressways, making it ideal for serving the manufacturing industries in the locality.

Integrating energy and water saving features, NHDC also features 12m-high Very Narrow Aisle racking and state-of-the-art warehouse management systems that help to track customers’

goods and i nven to r y. The distr ibution centre also features facilities for repacking and other value-added services.

The opening ceremony was graced by Mr Li Zifu, Vice Mayor of Foshan, Mr Ang Chay Chuan , Singapore’s Consul-General (Guangzhou), Mr Lin Zheng, Secretary General of Foshan Municipal Government, Mr Teo Soon Hoe, Senior Executive Director and Group Finance Director of Keppel Corporation and Chairman of Keppel T&T and other senior management of KLF.

Mr Pang pointed out, “Foshan has been exper iencing strong economic growth due to an influx of foreign

Green features

With the opening of Nanhai Distribution Centre (NHDC), Keppel Logistics Foshan will add another 35,000 sm of warehousing space and manage a total of over 100,000 sm of warehousing space in Guangdong Province

Reflecting Keppel’s belief to contribute to wherever we operate, NHDC was designed to be a green distribution centre. A key design consideration of the distribution centre was to reduce the consumption of electricity.

Insulation between the roof and the ce i l ing of the warehouse was used to reduce direct h e a t t r a n s m i s s i o n . Furthermore, instead of using a mechanical smoke extraction system, the warehouse ceiling roof was built with an elevated jack roofing for natural ventilation and smoke dispersion. This eliminated the need for extraction f ans , thus reduc ing electricity consumption.

Fibre-glass reinforced polyester t rans lucent

roofing sheets were also used to a l low natura l lighting. Energy-efficient light fittings were widely used for the warehouses and office buildings. In addition, the use of zonal control switches ensured that lighting for different zones was independent.

External pavement lamps, which were equipped with solar-cells, were used for i l luminat ing roads and

common walkways at night. This is expected to save an est imated 1,700 kwh per year.

Furthermore, employee dormitories were equipped with solar panels for w a t e r h e a t i n g . T h e est imated savings on electr ic ity amount to 109,500 kwh per year.

The distribution centre uses fibre-glass reinforced polyester translucent roofing sheets to allow natural light into the warehouse

investment, as wel l as increased manufacturing and trade. Therefore, KLF has grown significantly as the anchor of Keppel T&T’s presence in China.

“ T h e o p e n i n g o f NHDC strengthens and complements KLF’s third party logistics capabilities and allows KLF to take on more contracts and offer more integrated logistics solutions to its customers in Foshan. By the end of this year, we expect NHDC to achieve 80% occupancy.”

KLF, the joint venture between Sinotrans Guangdong Co., Ltd. and Keppel T&T, has grown steadily in tandem with Foshan’s economy. KLF’s throughput has grown six-fold from 41,600 TEU in 1995 to 258,800 TEU in 2010.

In the recently released 2011 China City Competitiveness Blue Paper: China City Competitiveness Report by the Chinese Academy of Social Science, Foshan was ranked 12 for its economic competitiveness. In 2010, Fo shan a l so ach i eved GDP growth of 14 percent to RMB 565.10 bi l l ion. Foshan’s tota l exports and imports were worth RMB 51.66 billion in 2010, up 34.7% from 2009, marking the first time the city’s foreign trade volume surpassed RMB 50 billion. keppelite

Driving across the Rainbow Bridge and entering the Start-up Area of the Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City, you are greeted by paved roads, ordered plots and the bustle of construction and development. This is a far cry from the stark vista of salt pans and polluted water bodies just three years ago.

away from the Tianjin city centre, the 30-sq km Tianjin Eco-City (Eco-City) will be a modern township where 350,000 residents can live, work and play.

In all, 22 quantitative and four qualitative eco-KPIs wh i ch w i l l gu ide the development of the Eco-City were jointly formulated by expert teams from both countries. In addition to def ined env i ronmenta l targets, they also cover key social aspects such as the provision of public housing and social-communal facilities to promote interaction among residents.

For instance, Keppel DHCS has brought its energy-efficient district heating and cooling system (DHCS) technology to the Eco-City and its plant will soon commence the supply of chilled water and hot water service to buildings in the Eco-Business Park by 2012. The plant distributes chilled water and hot water to its customers’ buildings through a network of pipes. Keppel DHCS was conferred the Solar Pioneer Award for its district cooling system (DCS) plant at Changi Business Park on 2 November 2011. The award was presented by the Energy Innovation Programme Office (EIPO), which is led by the Singapore Economic Development Board and the Energy Market Authority.

The DCS plant, which has embarked on an expansion plan, will have a planned s y s t em s i ze o f abou t 550 kW-peak, featuring the largest photovoltaic cell installation on a building in Singapore, when completed in 2H2012.

The 5,000 sm of solar panels on the rooftop and building facade will produce about 50,000 kWh of green energy a month. That is enough to power some 125 homes.

Mr Joseph Ng, CEO of Keppel DHCS, said, “We are committed to minimise our environmental impact, and plan to adopt solar as a renewable energy solution for our DCS plant at Changi Business Park which is being expanded. The initiative is aligned with the company’s b u s i n e s s o f o f f e r i n g environmentally-friendly and energy-efficient heating and cooling solutions with lower carbon emissions.”

The pho tovo l t a i c ce l l installation, which serves as a commercial test-bed for the integration of green building technologies, helps Keppel DHCS to achieve electricity cost savings. It is supported under EIPO’s Solar Capability Scheme, and is projected to be built at a cost of $3 million.

The DCS plant’s expansion p r o g r a m m e i n c l u d e s increasing the plant capacity nearly fourfold from 4,500 Refrigeration Tons (RT) to 17,500 RT. This will allow the company to provide its efficient water-cooled air-conditioning systems to the growing number of businesses in Changi Business Park, and deliver s ign i f i cant benef i t s in energy conservation.

Keppel DHCS has recently secured a new contract at Changi Business Park with UE-Bizhub, a high-quality business park building that is part of an integrated development with hotel and retai l components, as well as conference and meeting facilities.

The company presently serves 14 developments in Changi Business Park. Its clients include Ascendas, Citibank, DBS Bank, Honeywell, IBM, Invensys, Mapletree and Standard Chartered Bank. keppelite

Describe the significance of innovation to Keppel FelS.I n nov a t i on i s o ne o f Keppel’s eight core values. We do not innovate for the purpose of creating new solutions; our ideas and solut ions must be commercially-viable – they must help our customers meet their business goals.

Our continuous investments of time and resources to develop technologies and talents have helped to ensure that the rigs and vessels in our substantial orderbook are delivered safely, on time and within budget.

Thriving on innovationMr Wong Kok Seng, MD of Keppel FeLS, recently shared in an interview with The Business Times, on how the company encourages an innovative spirit and practice which have successfully resulted in a variety of offshore applications.

What are some examples of innovative products and services? Our proprietary KFELS B Class jackup rig design is a good shining example. It incorporates Keppel’s advanced, high-capacity jacking and self-positioning fixation systems, and is readily upgradeable for higher performance.

In 2009, the KFELS B Class jackup r ig des ign was bestowed the Prestigious Engineering Achievement Award from the Institution of Engineers Singapore for its ability to provide maximum up t i me w i t h reduc ed emissions and discharges.

Keppel FELS’ multi-purpose self-e levat ing platform (MPSEP) is another product of innovation. The design stands out for its ability to operate in waters 45% percent deeper than its peers, and withstand harsh offshore environmental conditions all year round.

In addition, Keppel FELS recently introduced the Super A Class design, which is an enhancement of its A Class design. This design meets the industry’s demand for new, high-performance assets with good safety mechanisms and high efficiency capabilities.

What are some initiatives which support Keppel FelS’ culture of innovation? In May 2011, we formed a New Production Technology Team to help drive innovation. The team is led by Keppel FELS’ ED, Mr Aziz Merchant, and Keppel Offshore & Marine Technology Centre’s Centre Director, Dr Foo Kok Seng. Our in-house quality experts also conduct innovation-related courses regularly to spread awareness of innovation methodologies, and guide the Innovation Quality Circles (iQC) teams

in their efforts. In addition, external field experts from organisations such as the S ingapore Product iv i ty Association are frequently invited to introduce and share new productivity and innovation concepts with our employees.

What are some industry and business assessments which Keppel FelS underwent to strengthen its practices? With the objective to improve our processes and heighten our standards, we regularly participate in competitions and assessments such as the Manufacturing Excellence Award (MAXA), Singapore Qua l i t y C l a s s , Peop le Developer and Innovation Class with the a im of improving ourselves.

We have benefited greatly from these independent and in-depth assessments of our processes and capabilities. The takeaways from these appraisals have helped to further improve Keppel FELS operations, and through our cross-sharing, those of other business units within the Keppel Offshore & Marine group. keppelite

Drawing lessons

7 October 2011 was a sad day for all at Keppel Group. At 10.20 am that day, a serious incident occurred at Keppel Subic Shipyard in the Philippines.

While workers were doing repair work on a car-carrier vessel, movement of the stern ramp caused the support underneath the ramp to topple. Some workers were on the scaffolding underneath the ramp edge and on the ramp at the time of the incident. As a result, the lives of six workers were lost and six others sustained injuries.

Following the incident, Keppel Subic Shipyard’s immediate focus was to help the affected workers and their families. The n e c e s s a r y f i n a n c i a l assistance was provided

to cover funeral and medical expenses, and subsequently, more comprehensive financial assistance packages were offered to the families. In addition, the management and staff of Keppel Subic Sh ipyard in i t ia ted the co l lec t ion of persona l contributions to the families of the deceased workers.

Fel low colleagues from other companies within the Keppel O&M Group also made donations to help the families.

Teams from Keppel Subic Shipyard and from Singapore worked non-stop in the immediate aftermath to investigate the cause. A high-level taskforce was formed to look into further enhancing safety at the yard.

At Keppel Subic Shipyard, full operations have resumed

and safety procedures at the yard are being further enhanced. While we face this incident with humility, it has strengthened our resolve to continue to reach out to every worker and employee on the importance of safety. Such incidents are sad but critical reminders that we should not take our daily routine work activities for granted, and that all of us need to band together to ensure each one of us returns home safely everyday.

At Keppel, we uphold safety as our top priority and i t i s a key core value. We are determined to draw lessons from the Subic incident and other incidents in our journey towards an incident-free work environment.

The fifth installment of the Keppel Global Young L e a d e r s P r o g r a m m e (GYLP) was held at the Nanyang Business School of Nanyang Technological University in Singapore from 14 to 26 November 2011.

Some 36 Keppelites from across the Group participated in this run, of which almost half flew in from countries as far as Brazil and Azerbaijan.

A strategic collaboration between Keppel College and the Nanyang Business School, GYLP is a specially designed curriculum that aims to sharpen the leadership, s t rategic th ink ing and management skills of young leaders across the Group.

The programme sets out to hone pa r t i c i pan t s ’ competencies in soft skills such as critical thinking, emotional quotient and

engaging global talents

leadership qualities, as well as enrich their grasp of key concepts like finance fundamentals.

Mr Peter Wimmer, Head of Centers of Excellence and Delivery Support Office, DHL-Asia Pacific Information Services, and Mr Seow Tiang Keng, Senior Electrical/ Instrumental Manager of Keppel FELS, contributed invaluable insights through sharing sessions.

This installment incorporated a C o r p o r a t e S o c i a l Responsibility (CSR) initiative, providing participants with an opportunity to work with the less privileged. GYLP kicked off at the Association for Persons with Special Needs’ (APSN) Centre for Adults where participants teamed up with APSN students to create crafts and bake confectionary.

The final results – miniature hort icultures and batik paintings – were presented at a silent auction organised for senior management of the Keppel Group during the GYLP’s welcome reception, w h i l e o t h e r s h e l p e d themselves to the tasty muffins. In total, $6,433 was raised for APSN.

At the welcome reception, Mr Choo Chiau Beng, CEO of Keppel Corporation, shared, “At Keppel, we believe that while our company grows, it is pertinent that the community grows with us. I am heartened that we have partnered APSN in this activity to instill in our young leaders the importance of giving back to the communities in which we operate.”

T h e p ro g r a m m e a l s o included site visits to the various business units for the participants to gain a

deeper understanding of Keppel’s key businesses, as wel l as recreat ional activities to foster friendship amongst them.

Wrapping up the course, the participants put their lessons into practice and presented their assigned project topics before a panel.

Matheus Franklin Medeiros, Structure and Outfitting Supervisor, Keppel FELS Bras i l , summed up his experience, “The programme is a great opportunity for us to meet Keppelites from other business units, and facilitates knowledge-sharing across the Group. Being in Singapore and finding out more about the Keppel Group as a whole have reinvigorated me to work harder and to grow with the company.” keppelite

Packing tenacity

“Don’t be afraid to venture outside your comfort zone. The sooner you do that, the better,” urged Mr Chow Yew Yuen, MD of Keppel Offshore & Marine (Keppel O&M) and President of Keppel O&M USA, “it will strengthen your resolve and resourcefulness in pushing new frontiers and dealing with the unexpected.”

Mr Chow was guest speaker at the fourth session of the Leadership Series, a monthly knowledge-sharing platform organised by Keppel Young Leaders (KYL).

Possessing a thirst for adventure and an inquisitive mind, as a student at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne in 1970s, Mr Chow travelled on a shoestring budget across the European continent.

He shared that this rich exposure to the unfamiliar and various cultures not on ly s t rengthened h i s perceptiveness but also ingrained in him a global mindset. These qualities, he explained, have helped him support and steer Keppel O&M’s expansion in the 30 years he has been with the company. Today, Mr Chow continues to broaden knowledge and skills by keeping an open mind to new ideas and experiences.

In 1993, Mr Chow relocated to the United States with his young family. Taking on a leadership position at AmFELS, later renamed Keppel AmFELS, Mr Chow further honed his skills at turning around and growing a yard’s business as well as

building a united, committed and passionate workforce. Mr Chow explained that when he first joined the yard, it had about 50 direct employees and 200 subcontractors, and the market was poor. Today, Keppel AmFELS is the most well-equipped yard in the Gulf of Mexico, and a large employer of the local community.

Later, when he was based in Houston – a major oil and gas hub – Mr Chow was able to broaden his understanding of the oil and gas industry. He acquired detailed knowledge of the whole supply chain, from downhole to subsea to drilling and production. As such, he believes that his time in Keppel’s overseas business units has also enhanced his leadership and operational capabilities

MD of Keppel O&M, Mr Chow Yew Yuen, shares his growing years and journey with Keppel at the recent KYL-organised Leadership Series

as well as sharpened his business acumen.

Over the last three years, Mr Chow has also helped t o e n h a n c e K e p p e l ’s operations in Brazil. This includes strengthening the BrasFELS management team and motivating the yard’s workforce to take up new challenges. In addition, BrasFELS has expanded its range of services even as it grows its customer base.

While Mr Chow has enjoyed success in his career, he also had his fair share of setbacks. Taking these in his stride, he shared that taking a few hard knocks is part and parcel of trying one’s hand at something new or unfamiliar.

Believing that ‘adversity makes men’, Mr Chow commented that the strength of an individual is in how he stands up under pressure and before challenges, and continues to remain positive and focused on coming up with solutions.

While sharing on some of the challenges he has faced, Mr Chow gave the following advice: “Always give your best, do it with passion and do it in the best interest of the company, and you will be able to take on new and difficult challenges for subsequent projects with confidence.” keppelite

After battling challenging conditions such as light winds and broken materials in Race 4 from Cape Town to Geraldton, Western A u s t r a l i a , w h e re t h e Keppel-sponsored Singapore y a c h t f i n i s h e d i n a n unprecedented last position, the crew made a difficult decision.

They chose to retire in Race 5 and diverted to Queenscliff Harbour Marina

battle plan for the long haulto fix their primary steering system. Skipper Ben Bowley explained that this move allowed his team to get to New Zealand with plenty of time to prepare for the start of Race 6 when they will resume racing from Tauranga, New Zealand, to Gold Coast, Australia.

M r J o f f B a i l e y, R a c e Di rector, shared, “The R a c e C o m m i t t e e h a d accepted the retirement

of Singapore from Race 5 with regret, but we believe it is a judicious decision given the forecast of high pressure and light winds developing over the Bass Strait which would hamper the team’s progress if they continued to follow the race route to New Zealand.

“ I f Ben and h i s c rew con t i nued r a c i ng the expected light winds, it could significantly delay

their arrival in Tauranga and jeopardise their preparations for Race 6.”

Skipper Ben added, “Wars are won not by toughing out every battle, but by knowing when to retreat, r e g r o u p a n d c h a r g e aga in w i th your a rmy refreshed. We have ten battles still to fight and the next one starts on 4 December in Tauranga.”

S ingapore would have finished Race 5 in tenth place to gain one point following their pit stop. By retiring, the team received one point as well so nothing was lost in terms of their standing on the overall leader board.

Retirement also allowed the Singapore team to use their auxiliary engine in the expected light winds and take an alternative route around New Zealand; over the North Is land or via the Cook Strait. This cut several hundred miles off the distance to Tauranga and ensured they arrive in t ime to prepare for Race 6.

The Singapore yacht crew i s determined to turn around their run of bad luck and focus on steering ahead.

Keppelites Abroad

A brazilian proposalembracing a posting to brazil, halfway around the globe from Singapore, Lee Shwu Huey opens her mind and heart to new experiences, quickening her professional and personal development.

Life has changed by leaps and bounds for Lee Shwu Huey, who joined Keppel Singmarine Brasil a little more than eight months ago.

Prior to setting foot in Brazil, Shwu Huey has had limited exposure to working overseas. Nonetheless, she was quick to step up to a work opportunity abroad, and so stretch herself professionally and personally. Today – despite facing language barriers – Shwu Huey, an accountant in the Finance Department, is comfortable working in and leading a multi-cultural team.

The posting has also opened Shwu Huey’s eyes to the efforts and initiatives that go into setting up new ventures and operations. These experiences have given her a better perspective on how to support Keppel’s ever-expanding businesses.

She elaborated, “Our team has been working hard to bring Keppel Singmarine Brasil, which was acquired by Keppel in the last year, up to speed. As the yard undergoes both hard and

soft developments, we h a v e h a d v a l u a b l e opportunities to help lay the groundwork for smooth operations by drawing up core policies.”

The vibrant Brazilian setting has became a source of inspirat ion to Shwu Huey. She shared, “The Brazilian culture is colourful and diverse. The country enjoys a convergence of Native American, European, Af r i can and Japanese inf luences; in such an e n v i r o n m e n t , o n e ’s

sensitivities to cultural and personality differences are heightened. I f ind that the exposure to such new experiences has made me more apt at developing strategic and out-of-the-box solutions.”

Besides stimulating ideas, the sprawling landscape of the country has helped drum up romance in Shwu Huey’s life.

Her fiancé, Tan Kean Yap, Section Manager (Operations – Hull) at Keppel Shipyard, proposed to her amidst

Months of hard work have come to fruition at the Keppel-GK Eco Village, a 60-unit housing estate for the impoverished. 28 houses are in various stages of construction presently and of these, 20 homes have been completed. Needy families identified to occupy completed homes are gradually moving into the estate. Robustiano Farillon, Jr, a driver and father of two, shared, “When my family first moved into our new house, I had tears of joy in my eyes. We never imagined that we would have a place such as this to call home. This is truly a blessing.” Proud of their new homes, the residents have started on renovation works. “We are putting our hearts into making our living space as comfortable as possible. To spruce it up, we have been creative and even used recycled items to create furniture and interior accents,” shared Margarita Puaso, a homemaker. Located at the Municipal of Bauan, Batangas, the Philippines, the development is a joint project between Keppel and the Gawad Kalinga (GK), a charity group which adopts a holistic approach towards improving the lives of the poor.

Keppel Singmarine, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Keppel Offshore & Marine (Keppel O&M), has secured two contracts from Indonesian customers worth a total of about $47 million.

The first contract is for a Coal Transshipment Barge for repeat customer PT Indo Straits Tbk, through its subsidiary company P T P e l a y a r a n S t r a i t s Perdana and the second is for the construction of three tugboats for a new customer, an international shipping company.

Newbuilds for Indonesian customersMr Hoe Eng Hock, ED of Keppel Singmarine said, “These valued contracts from our customers bear t e s t a m e n t t o K e p p e l Singmarine’s reputation for on time, and on budget deliveries as well as the proven track record of our project execution and technical designs.”

Keppel Singmarine’s contract with PT Pelayaran Straits Perdana is a repeat order of the Coal Transshipment Barge, Straits Venture, which was delivered earlier this year.

Mr Richard Ong, President Commissioner of PT Indo Straits Tbk, shared, “Straits Venture has been performing very we l l and we are confident that the second vessel will be just as successful. We look to continue this partnership with Keppel Singmarine as we expand our presence in the region and become a leading player in our segment.”

Conce i v ed by Keppe l S i n g m a r i n e ’s d e s i g n arm, Marine Technology Development (MTD), the vessel is capable of loading

35,000 tonnes of coal per day, and operates in open sea and difficult transshipment conditions. It will also have the flexibility to support marine offshore engineering operations in the oil and gas industry. The vessel is scheduled for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2012.

Mr Hoe shared, “We hope to deepen our partnership with PT Indo Straits Tbk following our delivery of its first coal transshipment barge earlier this year. We are very pleased to continue supporting PT Indo Straits Tbk in their expansion plans.”

Gaining a foothold in the Indonesia market, Keppel Singmarine will undertake the engineering and construction of the turnkey projects for the three tugboats ordered by their new customer.

The three vessels, consisting of two 45-tonne bollard pull tractor tugs with twin Voith Schneider Propulsion units and a 50-tonne bollard pull Azimuth Stern Drive (ASD) tugboat, are expected to be delivered in the third and fourth quarters of 2012.

The ASD tugboat will also be built to MTD’s design. A tugboat of similar design was recently delivered to Topahova Maritime SA of Liberia for work in Venezuelan waters in September 2011. keppelite
