LogosDescriptionThree different logos I designed for my photography business to use on my blog, website and business cards.

ProgramsAdobe Illustrator

CourseCommunications 130, Section 2

InstructorCaryn Esplin

ObjectivesThe create a varity of logos, using Adobe Illustrator, with consistant content but different designs

ProcessThe first thing I did for this project was brainstorm. I used the FOCUS pro-cess to sketch all my ideas. Then I used Adobe Illustrator for all the designs. The first design I used the line tool and just put arrow head on the ends. The middle tool I used the pen tool to create my banner type object. And then used the line tool with arrow heads again. The last design I just used text and the line tool. I had to use all my skills of design and also the skills I have acquired using Adobe InDesign.

ObjectivesTo help Elite Music Enterprises grow as a business. The web page was also de-signed so that anyone who was curious as to what we do, could log on and find out all they needed to know.

ProcessEvery sense the company started, we knew we would need a good website. So we designed the website in SquareSpace. I took all of the picture that are on the website. I also helped create the layout, edit all the body copy and text, and helped design the logo, and slogan. I am the Social Media director for the company so this was one of my first jobs.

ObjectivesTo get familiar with Adobe Indesign and to effectively premote a conferece and incorperate all the information given to us, into the flier.

ProcessI used Adobe InDesign. This was my first time using this software so I did get help but now that I have finished this project I feel like I learned so much about InDesign and I feel much more confident in using it. I did use to FO-CUS process to get the idea before I actually created it. I created the triangles and the text boxes first. Then after moving around all the shapes, I placed the information in and the picuture. I then pushed the picture to the back of the design.

InstructorCaryn Esplin

ObjectivesTo create a professional looking letterhead and stationery that a company could use. And to get famliar with a letterhead and stationery setup in Indesign.

ProcessI created the two parts of the logos using Adobe Illustrator. I then exported those files to Indesign where I used the instructions to make a business card layout and a letterhead layout. By tweaking and playing with my two types of logos, I finally came up with a simple business card and a matching letter head for my brothers music company. I used all my skills I have learned in my visual media class thus far. I used my Adobe skills to navigate my way through Illus-trator and Indesign.

MontageDescriptionA montage project, blending two of more images to make one powerful piece. Also the use of filters and typography.

ProgramsAdobe Photoshop

CourseCommunications 130, Section 2

InstructorCaryn Esplin

ObjectivesTo blend two images together using masks

ProcessI found both images on a popular blog I follow, and uploaded one into photo-shop, then placed the other one on top. I added a mask so I could begin using the brush tool to take away parts of the picture I didn’t want. I took away the hard edges then used a softer opacity to blend the image as desired. I then add-ed the filters to both pictures. I then added the text boxes and text I wanted.

InstructorCaryn Esplin

ObjectivesTo get famliar with designing and printing a brochure and the layout assosiated with that.

ProcessFirst I created the Capital Fitness Logo in Adobe Illustrator. I wanted a simple and powerful logo that would capture the eye of someone really looking for a gym. I think took that logo and put it in Adobe Indesign to create my brochure layout. I used a normal layout for a folding brochure but I cut out the top and bottom on the front page to give it a little edge. I then used my color scheme, mainly grays, to design a layout. I placed my images and placed my text in and worked on it for a couple weeks to get the lay out right so everything looked like it had enough space.

InstructorCaryn Esplin

ObjectivesTo get familiar with designing in Microsoft Word and to learn how to scan im-ages into our designs.

ProcessI started by picking a picture from a fitness magazine to base my ad off of. I then placed the full bleed image into a blank Word document. From there I created the circles and placed all the needed information into the ad. I picked a color scheme I could see in the image to pull the design together.

InstructorCaryn Esplin

ObjectivesTo design a professional looking business card so that if a business ever asked me to create and design a business card for them, I would know how

ProcessI started by creating the logo for the company in Adobe Illustrator. After the logo was made, I design a professional looking layout to match the logo, then placed all the important information on the back, and the logo on the front. I tried to leave as much white space as possible to portray the message I intend-ed.

CourseCommunications 130, Section 2

InstructorCaryn Esplin

ObjectivesTo create a webpage using html and css, and understand how to set up a web-site

ProcessI created the website and used html and css in TextWrangler. I have never done any type of coding before so this was very interesting and useful to learn in class. They gave us the basic codes and css format, I changed several things such as the background and wording, and also I inserted my logo I designed. I used a tutor to help me get the coding down and help me do things such as increase the padding and make the logo go into the center.

PHotodesignDescriptionCreate a design to show case a picture we had taken.

ProgramsPhotoshop

CourseCommunications 130, Section 2

InstructorCaryn Esplin

ObjectivesCreate a design and incorperate a picture we had photograped into the design, and to place a color swatch from our photo in the design as well.

ProcessI formulated a plan using the FOCUS process before I began. I picked a color scheme, then using my D5100 Nikon SLR I took this photo, using good light and composition. I edited the photo and created the design in Photoshop. I used Levels, saturation, selective color, and sharpness to edit my picture. I then used my design skills and the help of the lab assistants to create the layout. Getting the colors I wanted for the swatches was the hardest part. But it all came together to look exactly like I wanted it too.
