SUMMER BEGAN WITH CHINA TRIP At the beginning of the summer, the Kentucky volleyball team and staff went on a two-week trip to China, where they combined competition, education and culture into a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The Wildcats visited five cities, played seven matches against some of the elite Chinese professional teams and went on an educational journey along the way. The team visited historical sites and landmarks and took a class that began a week before they left and continued in China. For the student-athletes, the trip was not only an opportunity to bond with their teammates and get better on the court in preparation for the 2014 season, it was a chance to experience an entirely different culture and lifestyle and get out of their comfort zones.

PRESEASON ALL-SEC HONORS Junior Morgan Bergren was named to the Preseason All-SEC team, as voted upon by the league’s head coaches. Bergren started all 31 matches for the Wildcats in 2013 and ranked fourth in the SEC with 1,215 assists. She was second on the team with 24 service aces to go along with 192 digs, 130 kills and 77 blocks. This summer, she traveled to Beijing, China, to compete with USA Volleyball on the U.S. Collegiate National Team. UK was also voted to finish second in the SEC Preseason Coaches’ Poll.

LUCKY THIRTEENUK is one of just 13 teams in the country to appear in each of the last nine NCAA Tournaments. UK joins the following schools in achieving that feat: California, Colorado State, Florida, Hawaii, Louisville, Minnesota, Nebraska, Penn State, Southern California, Stanford, Texas and Washington.

Since being tabbed Kentucky’s head coach in December 2004, Craig Skinner has rejuvenated the Kentucky volleyball program into a national prominence once again. Skinner has directed the Wildcats to nine consecutive NCAA Tournaments - a feat only 12 other schools in the nation have achieved. That run includes three Sweet Sixteen appearances in the last five seasons. Fur thermore, the Wildcats have captured 17 or more victories in all 10 seasons under Skinner’s direction, including tallying 20 or more wins in seven of the last eight, including 2014.

He became the fastest coach in school allure to total 100 career victoriesin just his fifth season, and is the only coach in program history to advance to postseason play in each season at the helm.

Nine players have garnered 15 All-America distinctions, while UK has hauled in 33 All-Southeastern Conference honors in his nine seasons - including the 2008 SEC Player of the Year, 2006 SEC Freshman of the Year, 2010, 2011 and 2012 SEC Libero of the Year and the 2005 SEC Defensive Player of the Year.

The Wildcats have enjoyed unprecedented success which has included aschool-record run of 31 consecutive weeks ranked in the top 25 of the AmericanVolleyball Coaches Association poll, record-breaking attendance marks and a six time host of NCAA Tournament play including serving as one of four host sites forthe 2011 and 2013 NCAA Regionals. UK is slated to host against in 2015.
