Thank you to all of those families who have paid their school fees. It is greatly appreciated. Last week we had some dangerous trees and branches removed. They were inspected by an Arborist and deemed too dangerous and needed immediate removal. These were huge trees that had either perished or limbs that had die back. The school paid for their removal at a cost of $9,500.00. Parent Interviews have begun and I am receiving lots of positive feedback from both parents and staff. Thank you for completing the form detailing issues you wished to discuss. The new electronic board is installed and ready to be turned on next week. This will be an effective communication tool, with the wider community as well as our families. I have invited ex-students Scarlette and Angelina to be the first to put a message on the screen. The new Sports Shed is ready to be installed these Autumn school holidays. An audit will be done of all sports equipment and our Woolworths Earn and Learn sports gear should arrive by mid year. The shed will house all of our equipment and will have ready access. Very exciting! Igniting the excitement for Fireworks Night. It is fast approaching soon 7th April from 3.00pm – 7.30pm. There will be rides, food trucks, stalls and of course Howards Fireworks. An opportunity to meet up with other local families and the perfect way to welcome everyone to the community of Kenthurst. A huge thank you to Rance Property who are our major sponsors. STEAM. The children are so thrilled to be involved in this engaging program. Watching the children build, create in this educational environment is really exciting. We are hoping to continue this program building hovercrafts and drones.

Term 1 Week 8 Friday 23rd March 2018 Good afternoon Families and Friends,

This term has been full of exciting activities and progress. Refurbishment of the two Stage 3 classes will begin during the holidays. This will include new cupboards, display boards, sinks and painting. The front foyer and office will be refreshed too. The staff are currently working after school, studying Aspects of Writing and Grammar. This explicit teaching is currently reflected in our lessons and the students are loving Grammar! Peer observations and feedback to staff are part of this process. The purpose is to improve Writing skills. These hours will work towards our Staff Development Day at the end of this year. End of term 4 for students will be Wednesday 19th December 2018. Teachers end of term 4 will be on Thursday 20th December 2018. Indicative of the excellent teachers we have here at Kenthurst Public School, ‘The School of Choice’, Miss Barbagallo has been awarded Pride of Workmanship from The Rotary Club of Dural. A special Award Presentation will be held at the Dural Country Club. Congratulations on this wonderful achievement. Miss Barbagallo is also the Sydney West Primary Tennis Convenor. Two of our students have excelled Jessica and David who is ranked 1st. Grandparents Day is next Thursday! My office is full of beautifully decorated baskets of Easter Eggs. The new coffee machine arrives next week in time to serve our Grandparents. We are deeply appreciative to Bendigo Bank Galston for supporting our school and donating the money, so that the P&C could purchase this magnificent coffee machine. After much deliberation, the Executive team have decided that it is in the best interest of the children, to ban Bay Blades. Thank you for your support and understanding of this matter. Looking forward to seeing all of our Grandparents next Thursday. We have a jam packed day full of activities to share with them. I know the children are so excited that their Nanny, Pop, Grandpa, Grandma, Nonna, Nonno, Baba, Opa, Narni, Pa and Pop are coming to their school. Yours in quality education,

Caron Dodd Principal

Halogen National Youth Leadership Day I had the great pleasure of escorting our 2018 Leadership Team into Darling Harbour for the National Leadership Day last week. Our students, together with 4,000 NSW school students had the unique opportunity to listen to four inspirational and moving speakers from all walks of life. I was extremely proud of our KPS leaders in the way that they conducted themselves with maturity and empathy. Mrs Walker On Monday, 12th of March, the School leaders went on a public bus to Darling Harbour. We listened to 4 inspirational speakers. My favourite was John, who was born the size of a drink bottle and had to have his legs cut off. He is now a very famous and inspirational speaker. Bree C On Monday 12th March 2018 the leaders and I went to Darling Harbour in Sydney to listen to four very inspiring speakers. They were John Coutis, Lauren Cheatle, Harrison Craig and last was Matthew Cosgrove, At ICC (International Convention Centre). My favourite speaker was John Coutis because he inspired me to make your own choice and to never give up he also was a great comedian. If it wasn’t for Ms Dodd and Mrs Walker organising this, the day wouldn’t be as much fun. Cooper S

Some wise words from John Coutis

The speaker that inspired me the most was John Coutis because he inspired me to be who I want to be. I can’t thank Mrs Walker enough for letting us have this great experience and for making this happen. Jack R My favourite was John Coutis who was hilarious. John got bullied a lot in high school because of his deformed legs, so he decided to amputate his legs. Now John rides around on a skateboard. Overall, it was a fantastic day which was full of surprises. Josh C

Congratulations

On Monday 19th March, Miss Barbagallo held the Sydney West Tennis Trials. David M and Jessica E both participated in the event. Both students did extremely well. David came first for the boys and Jess came second in the girls which is an outstanding result. It is an amazing outcome to have two students from Kenthurst Public School to represent Sydney West at the NSW PSSA Cup at Albury in May. We wish them the best of luck and congratulations!!!

On Wednesday 21st March the students and teachers at Kenthurst Public celebrated Harmony Day. Wearing orange signifies the freedom of speech and encouragement of mutual respect. It was so lovely to see a ‘sea of orange’ and lots of odd socks because we are the same but also different. Australia is a vibrant and multicultural country — from the oldest continuous culture of our first Australians to the cultures of our newest arrivals from around the world. Our cultural diversity is one of our greatest strengths and is at the heart of who we are. It makes Australia a great place to live. Multicultural Australia is an integral part of our national identity. All people who migrate to Australia bring with them some of their own cultural and religious traditions, as well as taking on many new traditions. Collectively, these traditions have enriched our nation. Mrs Walker

What does Harmony mean to me?

To me Harmony Day means Australia coming together as one. It doesn’t matter what culture you’re from, we are all different but this is what makes us unique. We all belong no one should feel left out. We are our best when

we can just be ourselves! By Siena C

WHAT HARMONY DAY MEANS TO ME? TO ME HARMONY DAY MEANS AUSTRALIA COMING AS ONE WITH ALL CULTURES. AUSTRALIA IS A VERY DIVERSE COUNTRY AND

HARMONY DAY SHOWS THAT IN MANY WAYS. HARMONY DAY MEANS THAT EVERYONE BELONGS AND THAT’S HOW PEOPLE

WANT TO FEEL. BY JESS E

National Day of Action Last Friday was the National Day of Action where Australian schools came together to support this anti-bullying initiative. Our students were engaged in discussions and learning activities related to anti-bullying. Each class created these beautiful wreaths with positive messages. Thank you to our school community and the SRC leaders for their support. Mrs Walker
