Kenmore Soccer Teams Excel at Odenbach Cup

Kenmore Soccer was well represented at the Odenbach Cup on June 8-9th at the West Seneca Soccer Center, leaving with two age group champions. The 11 and Under Kenmore Thunder girls opened play with a 7-1 win over the Lockport Lightning, before defeating the Amherst Lightning 13-0. That led them into the 11 and Under final versus the Arcade Tornadoes, where they prevailed 7-0. They are pictured below with their championship t-shirts. The 12 and Under Kenmore Elite girls began play with a 3-1 win over the Niagara Wheatfield girls in what was a particularly hard fought game. Their second round game on Saturday was a 7-0 victory over the Delaware Spirit. That win kept them alive in the single elimination event. Sunday afternoon began with a 3rd round match versus the Grand Island Flash. The girls prevailed 4-0, which placed them into the championship game against the West Seneca Lady Lightning. The Lightning were very organized, but never threatened in a 3-0 championship win for the Kenmore Elite girls. Congratulations to both teams!

Kenmore Elite 18 and Under Girls Capture

Lakefront Classic Championship

After a season of major injuries, the 18 and Under Kenmore Elite girls rose to the occasion to capture the Lakefront Classic championship. The girls opened play with a 2-1 loss to Coliseum Premier, the champions of the 2019 season of the 19 and Under Premier Division of the Thruway League, but rebounded in the afternoon with a 1-0 victory over Simmons Premier, the Connecticut State Cup champions. The Saturday results left them in a must win position in their third game on Sundays morning versus GPS Buffalo. Kenmore dominated play from start to finish en route to a 1-0 win and a place in the championship match. The results of the round-robin play meant that the girls would once again face GPS Buffalo in the final. The first half was generally played in the midfield area, with nei-ther team creating good scoring chances. Kenmore took charge in the 2nd half, and with 20 minutes remaining Elliana Masecchia converted a cross into the lower corner of the net for a 1-0 lead. The team stepped up and controlled play for the balance of the match, denying GPS Buffalo any real scoring opportunity and finishing with the 1-0 win. Congratulations girls! Special thanks to Rory Schaeffer and Laura Cohn for serving as guest players for the weekend.
