Without the distracon of extra-curricular acvies, students and teachers are appreciang being able to focus on teaching and learning, and seling back into regular rounes. The Department of Educaon has updated its guidelines for school operaons as of 15th June and the beginning of Term 3. For our school we can expect to see the resumpon of SRE (Scripture), band and visits from allied health therapists as of next term. Non-essenal adults are sll not permied on school grounds or at school events - this includes parents/carers. A detailed list of the guidelines is included on page 2. Student Safety There has been a noceable improvement in students following aſternoon dismissal procedures over the past fortnight. Thank you to parents for supporng these procedures and helping to keep our students safe. Wet winter weather can certainly be a challenge when it comes to drying clothing. However, as a school we have high expectaons that students comply with our uniform policy and regularly reinforce this expectaon. If your child occasionally needs to wear a non-uniform item, we ask that you write a brief note of explanaon to the class teacher. Our kids look great in school uniform, and it promotes equality and belonging within our school. I ask all families to support our school uniform expectaons. Toys at school For some children, bringing a toy to school allows them to share common interests with their peers. Conversely, toys can also be a cause of conflict in games, or distress when treasured items are lost/damaged. Unfortunately, there has been a recent increase in negave incidents with toys at school. The following reminders may help to alleviate these issues: If a child needs to bring a toy to share with friends, please limit this to one toy, not several. Toys brought to school are the responsibility of the child not teachers. Valuable or fragile toys are best leſt at home. Teaching and learning me will not be interrupted to resolve issues around toys. Sporng equipment, board games and other passive acvies are available in the playground as an alternave to bringing toys from home. Building independence and resilience I oſten speak of the importance of building resilience. Since returning to face-to-face learning we have witnessed increased independence, parcularly amongst our younger students. Many children who previously relied on parent support when entering school grounds or unpacking/packing their bags are now confidently walking to their classrooms, meeng friends and managing their belongings independently. This is a fabulous outcome and a reminder that somemes adversity is what you need to face in order to become successful. It is certainly a big improvement to the bus walkway and has us thinking about some other wall spaces which would benefit from some brightening up. Thanks to Kim Barry for coordinang this iniave, what a great idea! Library Van Its me to locate your Library Van books and return them to school. Principal’s Message

We are now heading into the final two weeks of what has been a unique and challenging term. Without the distraction of extra-curricular activities, students and teachers are appreciating being able to focus on teaching and learning, and settling back into regular routines. The Department of Education has updated its guidelines for school operations as of 15th June and the beginning of Term 3. For our school we can expect to see the resumption of SRE (Scripture), band and visits from allied health therapists as of next term. Non-essential adults are still not permitted on school grounds or at school events - this includes parents/carers. A detailed list of the guidelines is included on page 2.

Student Safety

There has been a noticeable improvement in students following afternoon dismissal procedures over the past fortnight.

Thank you to parents for supporting these procedures and helping to keep our students safe.

UPDATED: A guide to NSW school students returning to face-to-face learning This guide is for parents and carers Information has been updated as at 11 June 2020, until further notice.

Schools are safe and open for full time face-to-face learning

With updated health advice and changes to state and national restrictions, schools are able to recommence the majority of school-based activities from either 15 June 2020 or the start of Term 3 (20 July 2020). Some activities are continuing to be considered. All school activities and operations will be in line with Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC) and NSW Health guidelines Existing infection control protocols at schools, and new health and safety measures put in place will help maintain the health and safety of students and staff. School students do not need to follow physical distancing guidelines, but should follow good hygiene practices like:

Regularly washing hands

Avoiding sharing drinks or food

Coughing or sneezing into your elbow, or a tissue which should be discarded immediately

Filling water bottles rather than using bubblers

School attendance All students should be at school unless:

They have a medical certificate which states that they are unable to return to school due to an ongoing medical condition and the expected timeframe.

They are currently unwell.

If a student is absent for more than three days without a medical certificate, this will be recorded as an unauthorised absence and followed up by the school. If you need any support to get your child back to school, please contact your school.

Students who live with a family member in one of the categories identified as being at increased risk by the AHPPC, should at-tend school unless a medical practitioner advises otherwise in writing.

If your child is unwell, do not send them to school. If they are unwell at school you or your nominated emergency contact wil l need to collect them immediately. Please make sure your contact details are up to date.

School activities return and timeline

From 15 June:

School assemblies (limited to 15 minutes and no external visitors)

Choirs and performing arts at school, with safety protocols in place

Students may attend other schools for essential curriculum related reasons or placements (e.g. auditions or placement tests)

Incursions/external providers can provide activities that support delivery of curriculum (e.g. music tutors, Healthy Harold).

Day field trips to outdoor locations with no physical distancing requirements can take place

School photos

From Term 3:

All school sport and activities including competitions aligned with current health advice

Inter-school student events and competitions (choirs, sport , debating, public speaking, performing art etc)

SRE/SEE lessons

P&C meetings – with a strong preference for on-line where possible

Parent/teacher meetings – where these need to take place – strong preference for online where possible unless involving

serious matters that require face to face discussion

Under consideration from Term 3

School camps

Excursions (other than field trips explained above)

Parent attendance at assemblies and other school events (e.g. graduation ceremonies or student speech events)

Parent volunteers – e.g. parent reading helpers (note: canteen and uniform shop volunteers are permitted)

School based activities that involve large gathering of adults are not permitted at this time. These include parent/ community gatherings such as fundraisers, school BBQs, large parent information evenings, and large cultural events.

School cleaning and hygiene supplies

Your school will receive additional cleaning in line with the AHPPC guidelines and advice from NSW Health.

School grounds

Non-essential adults are still not permitted on school grounds or at school events – this includes parents/carers

Parent/carer drop off and pick up procedures remain the same as for Term 2.

Wherever possible, P&C and parent/carer/teacher meetings should be conducted virtually.

Week 9 Focus Value - Respect The Values Education focus for this week is ‘Respect’ . When discussing concepts related to ‘respect’ we will be encouraging students to think how they can honour and value themselves and others. What does it look like, sound like and feel like to be treated well and to treat others well.

Kindergarten focus - speaking nicely to others, using kind words

Stage 1 focus - Showing kindness and care, listening to others, valuing what each other offers

Stage 2 focus - Respecting ourselves, others, property and the environment and why this is important.

Stage 3 focus - Respecting difference, tolerance, managing difficult situations respectfully.

Everybody needs to feel accepted, respected and included. Developing respectful relationships is vital to promoting confidence and self esteem in all of our students.

Week 10 Focus Value - Responsibility

This week’s Values Focus will be ‘Responsibility’.

The focus across the whole school will be making good choices and developing self control.

The aim is for all students to take pride in developing ‘Quality Behaviour’.

Students will discuss what it means to try your best and discuss the value of feeling proud of yourself for the choices you make. They will use phrases such as ‘Be calm, in control, think of the consequences’ and will be taught ways to use self talk to manage difficult situations and to choose responsible behaviour.

Students will also discuss the benefits of developing their levels of responsibility, exploring concepts of trust and leadership.

At Kendall PS we believe that all students can develop high levels of responsibility and that the personal rewards of pride and satisfaction are well worth the effort!

Henry Kendall Poetry Competition

In Term 1, Stage Three had to write a poem about any thing they wanted for

the Henry Kendall Poetry Competition. Just last week we found out the

results.

Harry came 3rd, Liam B came 2nd and I (Danielle) came 1st, we all got prize

money of $25 and were very happy about that.

It was hard to think of a poem but we got there in the end with Harry’s poem

about the life of the ocean, Liam

wrote about Kendall and I wrote

about riding my bike.

Disco

Year 6 will be holding a disco to fundraise for their end of year expenses.

TUESDAY 30th JUNE 2pm—3pm

$5 per person or $10 for a family will get you into the disco and a sausage

sandwich.

Year 6 leaders will be running games and activities for Stage 2 & 3 in the hall

and for Kindy and Stage 1 in the auditorium.

The theme is “Best Quarantine Outfit” come to school fancy dress all day.

Alternative arrangements will be

organised for students who do not

wish to attend the disco.

What's Happening in Stage Three

Stage Three are currently studying the novel “The Burnt Stick” by Anthony Hill.

At one point in the story the central character, John Jaggamarra is looking at

the beauty which surrounds him but he reflects that as good as it is, it is not

like home. Stage Three had fun with this idea and wrote about how something

can be really great but still not as good as something else. Here is a sample of

their writing. Please enjoy . . .

It was a gooey treat. The crunchy sweet biscuit,

the soft melted chocolate and the soft warm

melted marshmallow was the best.

But it was not ice-cream.

It was an amazing car. It had a humungous

bulbar, the turbo was magnificent and it had a

massive lift kit. The Toyota Hilux was amazing.

But it was not a Dodge Charger.

inside made my mouth start to water. But it was

not a banana smoothie.

It was amazing. The oozing meat encrusted in

pastry with awesome barbeque sauce!

But still it wasn`t a chicken nugget.

It was a gooey treat. The malt chocolate was

sticky and melted in my mouth. It stuck to my

teeth. The caramel was a delight in my mouth I

could feel it melt down my throat. But it is not a

macaroon.

Stage 3 writing continued.

It was a scrumptious treat. The toasty bun was

crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. The

meat was juicy when you bit into it and was cov-

ered in sauce. The delicious cheese was melted

and made your mouth water.

But it was not pizza!

It was a beautiful campground. The tent was hot and humid, my feet sunk in the wet, soggy grass. The water glistened and the birds sang their songs. The sun speared through the clouds as we walked down to the beach.

But it wasn’t Diamond Head.

and the runny yellow yoke, with the crispy, juicy

bacon tingled in my mouth. But it wasn’t a

cheeseburger.

of leather. The wheels were black, round and

huge. The mirrors were safe and clean. The win-

It was a delicious, crispy, golden brown chicken wing from woollies. As I bite into the soft, well cooked chicken, all the flavours exploded in my mouth. But it was not KFC!

believe this only took two amazing artists six hours to create?

It makes for a great atmosphere near the

student entrance to our school.
