Grandparent’s Day was combined with Community Access Day thus leading to the chance for families to become aware of the support services available to the community. The assembly was very special as it was the opportunity to thank all the elderly community members for their contribu- tion to our children’s lives. The audience was entertained with songs, drama and a powerpoint centred on images and quotes about grandparents followed by looking at the past, present and future of everyday useful items such as the bath, phone, television and toys. The students then shared a morning tea with their visitors. Thanks must go to the many parents and carers who cooked to support our morning tea cake stall. Today Seaforth Public School Band performed for our primary students in a free concert. Again our students en- joyed this cultural experience. Our students were also very interested in learning about the other hobbies students from the city have. This Friday Miss Dowling’s class is travelling to Canberra to visit the War Memorial as part of a unit of work they have been doing in class. We hope they have a good time. A Day to Remember Our IO/AU class visited the Sydney aquarium and wildlife park. For some this was their first visit to the city, for others an adventure which took them out of their safe environment and to experience and practice life skills in a new environment. We worked very hard in class so the children knew exactly what would happen, what we would see and what we would do.

On Friday the 15th of November K-4W had an amazing day in Sydney. We woke early and caught the Bathurst Bullet and finally after a long trip and 21 tunnels (which Charlie did not put in our visu-als) we were in Sydney. Now we were ready for our very adventurous day. On our way to the wildlife park we saw a stretchy bus which bent in the middle. We saw a gold tree and lots of wa-ter fountains, already our day was full of interesting things. On the water we saw a big navy boat and a submarine, they were huge. The wildlife park was full of animals such as lizards, snakes, koalas, and a crocodile with a big tail which we looked at in the underwater area. A snake did a poo in front of where we had to walk. Yuk!!! We looked at lots of different animals and then it was time for lunch.

While we ate our lunch under shelter there was a big sun shower, lots of people were getting wet but we were dry.

Next we were off to the aquarium. Up and down we went on the ramps, our legs were getting tired. Lots of different and bright coloured fish were everywhere in lots of tanks. Some things we were allowed to feel and explore with our hands but we had to be gentle. There were lots of things shaped like wheels so everyone was happy. We saw a dugong who ate lots of lettuce, 100kg a day, big sharks and stingrays. Mrs Watters was very scared when we had to walk on the glass floor, it was funny.

We had some afternoon tea then a play at the park. There were lots of things to climb and slide on but it was very busy. On our walk back to the station we thought we were in China. We could smell lots of Chinese food, saw lots of Chinese writing and people were talking in Chinese. Back at the station we had Hungry Jacks and got back on our train. We were exhausted but what a great day we had.

We were so tired that when Charlie got off in Lithgow Mrs Watters told us to wave and we were waving at the reflection in the window instead of Charlie, oops,

SPECIAL CHILDREN’ S CHRISTMAS PARTY Thursday 12th December 2013

This year the Support Unit has decided not to organise an excursion to the Special Children’s Christmas Party. This is a great experience for students and is free for the day. Please contact Mrs Beattie with a list of children, ages and disability. Siblings may also attend but not receive gifts. You would need to transport your own child to Sydney for the day. Please refer to the website for more information http://www.christmasparty.com.au/sydney.html Mrs Beattie Comprehension help for teens Some kids will read perfectly in primary school and then suddenly struggle with comprehension in high school.
