Synergy
Concept Statement
The concept for this healthcare facility will be based on the idea of synergy. The elements and principles of design will be manipulated to convey the idea throughout the interior space. Overall, design features within the space will morph from two separate “forces” to one combined holistic effect. Both organic and geometric lines and shapes will combine to form two opposites in the space. Colors used will gradate from light to dark creating a progression and building of synergy. Radial symmetry will be used in key places to represent a holistic approach to healthcare. Lastly, striking design features representing abstract ideas of synergy will create emphasis and variety in the space. All of the preceding elements and principles of design will create a holistic healthcare environment that will be conducive to healing and staff satisfaction.

Problem Statement
This project will address several challenges for Emma and Andrew in their
desire to design a cutting edge art gallery and living space; first to design a functional, inviting, and creative art gallery,
second to design a functional living space, and lastly to create a space that utilizes
green design. Since the gallery is located in the “Rust Belt” the gallery will exhibit art that
contains at least 50% of a metal material or contain images relating to steel
manufacturing or of steel/metal structure (i.e. painting, drawing, photography of steel manufacturing or of steel/metal
structures). With this in mind the art gallery must be designed in a way that
compliments the artwork.
Concept Statement
The concept behind the design of this art galley will be based on instilling a
feeling of questioning within users of the space. Post-modern architecture
combined with steel manufacturing will be the basis of the design inside the gallery. Since post-modern design exhibits
abstract forms, eclectic use of materials, and new ways of thinking, the elements
and principles of design that will be used in the space will compliment the preceding notions. Asymmetry will be used in
selected spaces to create a feeling of questioning within the users of the space,
just as post-modern design creates in its viewers. Abstract geometric shapes and sharp lines will dominate the space; this
will construct a playful questioning interior. White will be used for the walls and ceiling
to create a backdrop for the artwork. Besides painted walls, metal and other industrial materials will be used in the
gallery space. Overall the space will be functional yet interesting for the users and
not overpower the artwork displayed
within.
Art Gallery Logo/Name
26 – Fe is the periodic element number and
symbol of iron. Since the art gallery is based on the concept of using steel as a medium and
iron is used to make steel, the periodic number and symbol of iron will be used as the art
gallery’s name.
