Food Spotlight: Tim’s at Lake Anna
Tim’s at Lake Anna has built a great reputation in our region for great seafood in a fun atmosphere, but a quick
glance at their menu will show that there are more choices than simply the standard seafood menu. One particular
favorite of locals is the New York Strip - a dish you may not be thinking of when you think “seafood”.
There are also other options if you’re not in a seafood mood - including chicken fingers, stuffed mushrooms, ham-
burgers & cheeseburgers, hot dogs served on a pretzel bun, and salads.
If you’ve already been to Tim’s for their famous crab legs or shrimp, take a look at their extended menu or go with
a surf & turf combo (like the steak and shrimp plate shown above)! With a variety of sides, Tim’s has a lot to offer - and
a lot more than seafood!

Baking Soda Beauty Treatments by Heather Mechler-Fickes
There are so many hair and skin products
on the market. Most stores carry a wide variety
ranging from high end to cheaper items. Some are
great and some are not. Usually when you find a
particular product that works, you stick to it.
Sometimes it ‘s fun to pull your resources together
and try making your own beauty treatments. It’s
surprising how many basic household items can do
the trick. You won’t even need to make an extra
trip out to the store because you already have it.
Baking soda is a wonderful example.
Baking soda is great for cleaning your teeth.
You can add a little with your regular toothpaste
for a little extra cleaning boost, or mix it with co-
conut oil and a drop of peppermint essential oil to
make your own natural
toothpaste.
Baking soda can be
used in your skin routine. Use
a small amount of baking
soda as a once a week skin
exfoliant. Don’t scrub too
hard and overdo it or you
could experience dryness.
You can eliminate blackheads by mixing
baking soda with lemon juice and leave it on your
face to dry and harden. Rinse thoroughly with cold
water to close your facial pores.
Get rid of dark under eye circles with a mix-
ture of chamomile tea and a tablespoon of baking
soda and mix well. Apply with a cotton ball under
your eyes. Leave it on 10 minute, rinse and mois-
turize.
Baking soda also can help your hair. It can
be used as a clarifier. If you have chlorine build up
or your hair has started to have product build up,
mix a little bit of baking soda with your shampoo.
This will give your hair a deep cleansing so remem-
ber to use a good conditioner afterward. I do not
recommend this treatment for those who have
color treated hair because this could cause your
hair color to fade.
These are some baking soda beauty treat-
ments that I have tried and I’ve had successful re-
sults. Not only have they been effective but
extremely inexpensive.
In June, grandchildren from Colorado, Pennsylvania and
North Carolina came to Virginia for the fourth annual Lake Anna
Rose Valley “Gran” Camp. Four grandmothers hosted eleven
grandchildren: Caden and Reese McCommons of Edwards, Col-
orado and Makenna Housten, of Macungie, PA, grandchildren of
Marty and Gloria Leili; Olivia and Thomas Winterrowd of Manas-
sas VA, grandchildren of Dick and Carol Sudol; Wes Songer of
Woodbridge, VA and Leo and Izzy Baker of Dumfries, VA, grand-
children of Ed and Jedy Baker; Connor Watson of Wilmington,
NC, Erin Muddiman of Raleigh, NC, and Claire Brunner of Glen
Allen, VA, grandchildren of Pam and Mark Luttner.
Following a meet and greet, day one started with each
grandchild decorating their own Gran Camp t-shirt, which has be-
come a four year tradition. This year’s t-shirt was prepared for
the next day’s paintball game. Next was making the popular
slime. The kids love getting their hands into this messy craft!
After a short lunch break the group convened at the
Sudol’s to compete in an egg toss and water balloon relay. Then
it was off to the Sudol’s dock for some welcome swimming to cool
off.
Day two included decorating picture frames to hold their
annual jumping off the dock pictures, and painting rocks. After
a make your own pizza lunch at the Leili’s, including the now tra-
ditional ice cube war on the porch, they then convened at the
Sudol’s for an enthusiastic paintball challenge in their decorated
t-shirts, using the kid friendly Goblies.

war., Front row, Leo Baker, Claire Brunner, Erin Muddiman,
Reese McCommons, Makenna Housten; back row, Connor Wat-
son, Wes Songer, Olivia Winterrowd, Caden McCommons,

Then it was down to the water for the annual jumping off the
dock picture. An afternoon of tubing followed in the Leili’s and
Sudol’s boats, captained by Marty Leili and Dick Sudol, assisted
by son-in-law Rob Winterrowd.

Choosing the right Lake Anna Location: The Novelty of Both Waters Estates
You may be familiar with the fact that Lake Anna
has a "Private Side" and a "Public Side", also known as
the "Warm Side" and the "Cold Side", divided by three
Dikes that are berms of land that you cannot cross by
boat. Once buyers learn about the Private Side vs. the
Public Side and the offerings of each, they are forced to
choose one or the other and conduct their search based
on that preference. With only approximately 100 wa-
terfront homes for sale at any given time, this can really
limit your choices.
Homeowners on the Private Side often wish that
they had boating access to the marinas and restaurants,
or an escape to cooler water temperatures when the
water reaches the upper 90s during the warmest Sum-
mer months. Homeowners on the Public Side often
wish that they could extend their water sports season
and enjoy swimming and boating as early as April and
as late as October. But what if you could have both?
One unique neighborhood, Both Waters Estates,
has exclusive access to both Lake Anna's Private and
Public sides. With its common area situated at Dike #2,
homeowners in Both Waters can enjoy access to both
sides of the lake any time of year! Within the neighbor-
hood, some homes face the Private Side and some
homes face the Public Side, but whichever side you
face, you have the use of the other via the common
area.
Due to this rarity, it is seldom that homes last
very long on the market in Both Waters. Currently,
there are three waterfront homes for sale in Both Wa-
ters Estates: two on the Private Side, with one just shy
of $800k and the other offered at $1,125,000 and one
on the Public Side listed for only $495,000 (reduced
$40,000 for November only!). With expansive million-
dollar views, this cozy log home comes fully furnished
and is certainly a favorite among buyers so far.
Bonus Fact: want a front-row seat for Fourth of
July fireworks? Dike #2 in Both Waters Estates hosts the
largest fireworks display on Lake Anna.
