If you would like take place in this project, please email Ali at [email protected]. Pastor Ali can come to your home to film your story or arrange for filming to take place at the church. Please watch your mail for the Stewardship material, including a letter from Pastor Ali and a pledge card; if you don’t receive one, please contact the Church Office.

Fulfilling God’s Purpose!

C.S. Lewis said, “There are two kinds of people: those who say to God, ‘Thy will be done,’ and those to whom God says, ‘All right, then, have it your way.’ ” As redeemed children of God, of course, we desire to belong to that first category, “Thy will be done.” On Sundays October 4

th-25

th, the theme of our

worship services will be Fulfilling God’s Purpose! We will learn how the Holy Spirit, working through Word and Sacrament, transforms us to be more like our Chief Steward, Jesus, who willingly poured out his life in giving and serving, ultimately sacrificing his very life for our eternal lives.

As your pastor, I pray that each of you will take advantage of these opportunities to grow in the grace and knowledge of your Lord that you might be strengthened in faith both for eternity and for a fruitful life here on earth. The themes for the four Sundays are as follows: • Sunday October 4: “Building Relationships” • Sunday October 11: “Witnessing for Jesus” • Sunday October 18: “Living as a Servant” • Sunday October 25: “Giving Joyfully and

Generously”, Commitment Sunday “Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain” . (1 Corinthians 15:58). Blessings and peace to you always,

Pastor Ali and the reopening team meet regularly to make plans for how Indian Heights UMC is safely reopening. Latest updates based on these meetings, and recommendations by our Bishop, other Pastors in the area and the CDC include:

• The church office is open, Monday-Thursday, 9:30-2:30. If you can, please call 913.649.9040 to make an appointment with Suzette before coming in; all are asked to wear a mask and maintain social distancing by not entering the office but standing in the doorway so Suzette or Pastor Ali can assist you.

• Worshiping together continues to be at 10:30am via Facebook AND we are meeting every Sunday at 9:30am for worship in the parking lot by the parsonage (weather permitting). Stay tuned for other updates.

• Videos from all Sunday worship experiences continue to be posted on our website

Monday mornings, and stay on our Facebook for viewing indefinitely.

• Sunday’s bulletin will continue to be emailed by Friday, and posted on our website and also in the top line of Sunday’s online worship for each particular worship experience.

• Small groups are meeting inside the building again, at the discretion of the group’s leadership. Groups meeting include Women’s Theology, Prayer Circle and Creative Souls. If you decide to meet, PLEASE let Suzette know so we get you on the calendar and so our custodian knows when to clean and what rooms are being used. Thank you!!

• You can always email or call the church office with questions and any needs: 913.649.9040 or [email protected].

Our goal is not to spiritually distance ourselves, but to care for others the way we believe Christ directs us to do.

VOLUNTEER NEEDS

Food Pantry Drive

Cross-Line Community’s food pantry is in continual need of non-perishables… so we will be collecting items Sunday mornings and throughout the week (during office hours). These are taken to Cross-Lines throughout the month. Also needed are some snack items for our own little pantry - individual meals, nut-based snacks, granola bars, etc.

The Hub Looking for a way to serve in this season? Want to make a difference in a student's life? Join us at The Hub, KC District Mission Center at Metro East UMC in KCK, this fall and serve as one of our adult volunteers in our “Learning Pods” program. Our Learning Pods will provide educational, spiritual, and emotional support to middle and elementary school students in the Argentine community during the virtual learning season. Each pod will have no more than 10 kids and will meet twice a week for two hours a day from 1-3pm or 4-6pm. To minimize exposure, learning pods would be from less than five households, everyone will wear masks, and we will have safety and cleaning protocols. Please contact Rev. Carter Ellis, director of The Hub, for questions and more info on how to get involved. Reach Carter at: [email protected] or 704-734-

We will share the link to the conference as soon as we have it. Please note that our One Board will meet on Tuesday, October 27, at 7pm to review all the conference materials. Watering Needs

We need several people to take turns watering the new plants in the garden area by our front door. Can you commit to a specific day every week until the weather gets cold? Contact Sharon Sauer via email at [email protected] or 816.797.1794. Thank you to Dale and Sharon Sauer for your vision to renovate this area, and all of the hard physical labor you have done to make it look so beautiful and welcoming.

The deadline to register to vote in Johnson county is Tuesday, October 13. That’s also the deadline to update your voter registration with name and address changes. Voter registration applications can be found at jocoelection.org/registration. In August, 34% of voters cast their vote in the primary election, which was record-setting in our county for a primary election. The Election

Office expects another record to be set during the November 3 election...so be prepared. You can vote three ways: by mail, at an advance voting location, or in person on Election day (7am-7pm). The deadline to apply to vote by mail is Tuesday, October 27. Applications are at voter.jocoelection.org. More information can be found at jocoelection.org or jocogov.org.
