Kealey Knight Letter SERVING THE KNIGHTS OF GREATER OCEAN VIEWNovember 2013 Vol 51 Issue 5 Knights of Columbus Council #3548 “Best in the South” Dear Brother Knights and Family, October had a lot of great events for the council. Thanks to Tim Woods and PGK Mike Borkowski for their work on the Weenie Roast. The kids and the parents had a great time with the hot dogs, movies, and the scary story time. Thanks to Tricia and Justine for all their work in setting up for the council Halloween Party. It was a Boo-tiful time. Hahahahahahahahaha. Congratulations to all the new 4th Degree Sir Knights. The Sunday Doughnut membership drive was a success. We added a new Brother Knight to our roster; Phillip Burns Jr. and we have sever- al prospective members for the future. Thanks to PGK Robert “Stump” Wood and Chris Klotz for all the set up and all the BKs that met with the crowds after mass. Great job to DGK Bill Duncan and Dan Diaz for the Open House. We had a great spaghetti dinner and 15 BKs gained a lot of information about what the Knights Insurance and financial services are all about. I’d like to especially thank Robert Abbate and Kevin Gorman for coming out to help Dan give the briefing. For those that purchased Football Frenzy tickets, keep your eye on the State web page. First Week winners were: 1st Place High: Eric Walker $400 and 1st Place Low: Ed Fiorella $60. Congratulations. It is with a sad heart that I announce that as of the end of October, the Bingo kitchen team: Ed, Gina, Matt, Tyler, Dawn, and Anthony have decided to stop working meals during Bingo. The Bin- go Managers are looking for someone to take their place but if anyone has a good idea on a re- placement, please talk to one of the Bingo Managers. I’d like to give a special thanks to all the Bingo Managers for all they do. PGK Bill Dewey, PGK Ed Lambe, and PGK Ken Wiley put in a lot of hours every week running our Bingo. Through their ef- forts, the Kealey Council has an income that we couldn’t do without. The teams are still looking pretty thin – if you can give a couple of hours once every 5 weeks, c’mon out and help support our council. Our Knight of the Month for October was Jeff May. Jeff has been an inspiration to all the Knights. Along with being the Inside Guard, and the Inside Guard on the 1st Degree Team, he and Tabatha volunteer to help Pete Wellman with Instants on Wednesday nights. He has helped on every coun- cil event since taking office. Well Deserved. Thank you and congratulations. The holiday season for many is a time of reflection. As we reflect on the last year, we can thank God for the people and blessings he has put into our lives. The holiday season should make us recognize our desire for charity for those that are not as fortunate as we are. The council has a Food Pantry basket that could help many needy families during the Christmas season. Also, we are putting together 50 Turkey Dinners for Holy Trinity’s Food Pantry. As of last count, we have 8 meals ready to go. The deadline for the Turkey Dinners is Nov 25th. Thanks for your help. On Nov 19th, the council will be remembering our past members at our Memorial Mass. There will be a small social at the Hall after mass for the Knights and widows. The Social meeting scheduled for that night is cancelled in lieu of the Mass. November brings lots of opportunity to excel for the council so keep your eye on the council calen- (Continued on page 2) Grand Knight’s Desk

Grand Knight’s Desk (cont.) A Call to Action One of the goals that I set as Grand Knight was to work on council membership participation. I challenge the members to reserve 1-2 hours per month to support the council. Come to a meet-ing. Have breakfast after mass. Come to the Oyster Roast for dinner. Enjoy a fun evening with Virginia Voices starring our very own Treas-urer, Rick Gustwiller. The council typically has 2-3 events per month. Help out if able or come down and enjoy the event. If you receive the newsletter by mail and would like to help the council’s mail bill, please provide the Kealey Editor with a valid email address at [email protected]. It will save you time and the council money. You receive the newsletter the day it’s released. Thank you.
