Thank you so much to everyone for all their help - an art show is definitely a team effort and it took lots of work from everyone - the art teachers and their dedication, the non-art teachers and their patience, the school support staff for fulfilling all our myriad of requests, the high school students for their waitressing and of course especially to our marvellous P&C parents - the framers, the hall decorators, the cooks, the raffle ticket sellers and everyone else who completed other essential tasks I have forgotten to mention! Also a massive thank you to the people who donated art, time, money, wine, food and miscellaneous prizes to our show (who knew rat bait would be so popular!!) We raised an incredible amount, which is a tremendous effort for a little town school and has exceeded our expectations - so thank you! We will have a run down and debrief at our next P&C meeting - so please come to the school library 3 rd September after Learning Journey Evening. KDHS P&C ART SHOW

Wow! What a fabulous event the P&C Art Show was - we had 105 separate bidders and the art was almost all completely sold! The class pieces were closely contested and it was hilarious watching the poker faces during the auction!

Also a massive thank you to the people who donated art, time, money, wine, food and miscellaneous prizes to our show (who knew rat bait would be so popular!!)

FROM THE PRINCIPAL – Clare Roser School-Parent-Community Partnerships Family-school partnerships are collaborative relationships and activities involving school staff, parents and other family members of students at a school. Effective partnerships are based on mutual trust and respect, and shared responsibility for the education of the children and young people at the school. Research demonstrates that effective schools have high levels of parental and community involvement. This involvement is strongly related to improved student learning, attendance and behaviour. Family involvement can have a major impact on student learning, regardless of the social or cultural background of the family. On Friday night I was privileged to be able to attend the Kojonup DHS Art Show. This amazing event was a true reflection of how effective community-school partnerships can be. I would like to thank the hardworking P&C committee, KDHS staff and students, the very talented artists and those who were able to donate prizes for the numerous raffles, for making this all possible. Bidding for the class pieces kept our animated spotter and auctioneer on their toes, the PP and Year 6 class artworks attracting some fierce competition! Thank you to everyone who has supported the KDHS students by purchasing art directly from school or on the night. Individual student pieces can still be purchased from the school for $20 each. Please see the front office staff who will assist. Student Achievements A number of our students have recently been rewarded for their hard work at school and in the wider community.

Zach Baker, Year 10, was successful in gaining entry to Round 2 at LambEx this year as part of the Young Guns program. LambEx aims to recognise and encourage young and upcoming industry people to consider a career in the lamb industry. As part of this process, Zach had to provide a written biography of his industry experience and a 350 word response to an industry related topic question. Zach was then selected to move to Round 2 in the High School category (Years 10-12). For this section, Zach produced a power point presentation, poster and spoke in front of 200 industry representatives. We congratulate Zach on this wonderful achievement.

Josie Simpson has recently been accepted into the Gifted and Talented Program for Secondary Students 2019. Placement into this program was extremely competitive this year and Josie achieved outstanding results to gain entry. She will access the program online, working from KDHS.

PEAC (Primary Extension and Challenge Program) All Year 4 students have recently participated in the annual PEAC testing at KDHS. This testing aims to identify students who are deemed capable of participating in a rigorous extension program in addition to their school based courses, in Years 5 and 6. Parents will be notified if their child has been successful in gaining a placement, late in Term 4. This year we have three students participating in PEAC courses, Chelsea Evans Year 6, Sarah Cussons Year 5 and Matilda Parker Year 5. Congratulations, girls. Student Council Fundraiser Term 3 The Student Council will be conducting a daily auction at lunchtimes during Week 9 to raise money for the 2019 GRIP Leadership trips for Primary and High School student leaders. Each day, 10 donated items will be auctioned from the canteen undercover area. We would like to ask for items to be donated for the auctions, to be dropped at the front office. The Student Council will package them into separate lots. A list of items to be auctioned will be posted daily on the noticeboard outside the staffroom. We hope you are able to support this fundraiser by donating or bidding for items. Thank you, 2018 Student Council.
