KCHS Newsletter - Kenai Central High...
Transcript of KCHS Newsletter - Kenai Central High...
March will be a busy month,
which includes the end of the
third quarter (March 9th) and
Spring Break (March 10th
through the 19th).
Coming in April, 9th and 10th
grade students will be taking
the new state assessments
called PEAKS (Performance
Evaluation for Alaska’s
Schools). It is extremely im-
portant that students attend
school these days and do their
best on the exams. Students
and schools are being judged
based on their participation
and performance. It is im-
portant that we paint an accu-
rate picture of your son or
daughter’s ability and the per-
formance of Kenai Central
High School in general.
This school is a wonderful
place and our students are
simply outstanding. I am so
proud to be a part of this com
-munity and to work with
these young people. I regular-
ly receive positive feedback
from folks regarding our kids,
our staff, and our community.
I would like to express my
gratitude to everyone who
works to make Kenai Central
High School a great place.
Thanks and have a great
month.
GO KARDS!

In preparation for the 2017 Job Shadow Day, 96 juniors at Kenai Central High School spent several months
researching careers and preparing business portfolios, including job applications, résumés, and cover letters.
The unit culminated with individualized, first-hand workplace experiences with local business hosts from
across the Central Peninsula. KCHS students and staff would like to extend our sincere appreciation to all
of the individuals, agencies, and businesses that helped to support this program and to make this such a pos-
itive experience for students.
Special thanks go to the following Job Shadow committee members for organizing this annual event: Johna
Beech and Gloria Ungrue at the Kenai Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center; Rachel O’Brien and Ja-
son Warfle at the Peninsula Job Center; and Meredith McCullough and Steve Nimcheski at Kenai Central
High School.
Thanks also to Mayor Brian Gabriel and Chief David Ross for speaking and passing on their wisdom at the
luncheon, and to Bruce Jackman for being Master of Ceremonies; Patty Eissler of Peninsula Community
Health Services and Mike Mendenhall of Tesoro for assisting with Job Shadow orientation; Arby’s,
McDonald’s, Pizza Paradisos, and Coca Cola for donating food for the luncheon; and Sam Strange, Lisa
Gabriel, Melodie Epperheimer, Misty Hamilton, Laura Beeson, and Margo Reilly of KCHS for helping be-
hind the scenes with organization and transportation.
Thanks to all of these businesses and organizations for donating their time and expertise to host and mentor
students: AK Kids, Alaska Public Defenders Office, Alaska State Troopers, Artistic Puppy Creative, Big G
Electric, Blue Moose Bed & Biscuit, Central Alaska Engineering, City of Kenai Finance Department, Co-
