The electricity meter is used to tell how much electricity is being used and gives us an accurate reading to help predict energy bills.

The dial meter is composed by several dials. Although most dials have six dials, you only need to read the first five dials since the last dial is used for testing purposes only.

The first dial located at the left represents 10,000kWh; the next dial represents the 1,000kWh and so on until the last dial which represents 1kWh.

Dials move in opposite directions, as shown by the orange arrows in the picture above.

If the pointer is located between two numbers, always read the lower number.

If the pointer is directly over a number, always record it.

If the pointer on a dial falls between 9 and 0, reduce the reading already taken for the dial on the left by one.

Your meter might display one or two figures. It is a straight forward reading system where you have only to read from left to right and take note of the numbers shown ignoring the last figure marked 0.1. This last dial is used for testing purposes only.

If two figures are displayed, the top row records the off-peak

electricity you use. It is marked sometimes as LOW or NIGHT. The bottom row records the normal rate electricity is being used. It is marked sometimes as NORMAL, RATE 1 or RATE 2.
