BUD VASE
The Vase Project presented obstacles of form, craft, and functionality. My inspiration came from the earth’s elements, and idea that water was to be incorporated into the piece. I wanted to capture the essence of water flowing, as well as the impression of smoke rising. The 3-Dimentional pieces resemble an abstract seed form, while the holes in the 2-Dimensional space resemble fluid like forms.

LIFT
The Children’s Furniture Project presented the challenge of working with restrictions. The piece was to be constructed out of a 2.5 X 5’ board of wood. The design had to be strong enough to hold a small child ages 2 - 6, and was to fold up and “pack flat” when disassembled.

ss Children at a young age are more likely to use something that they find visually appealing. I wanted to create a chair that a child would be encouraged to sit in and read a book.
I began to search for inspiration and explore forms through sketching.
LAZY BASKET
100 Year Sustainability Project
This project took the concepts from two super normal products. A lazy Suzan and a folding basket were combined into one piece in an innovative and sustainable way.

Considering the project was to last 100 years, I was inspired by the long life span of trees, and how they show age according to the rings around their trunk. The design I came up with resembles a tree trunk like spiral that sits flat and lifts into a funnel like shape.

The design challenge involves taking a “super normal” product and redesigning it so that it has less of an impact on the earth than the original product does. To be successful and precise, the Okala hand book was used as a reference for current information about environmental impacts of certain materials and process’s.

Rising stretched spiral rings to outer circle
In order to make sure the basket would last 100 years, I designed it so that when the wider pieces of the wood spring began to weaken, the user would just raise the springs and glue them along the outer rings, resulting in new rings from the spiral rising and filling the empty space.

By suspending each of the spirals upside down, I was able to glue and clamp all six of the spirals one by one together to increase the basket thickness.

IHA Housewares Competition
The Living Earth Waste Bin addresses issues regarding waste management in homes today. The waste bin addresses each of these issues by combining trash, recycling, and compost compartments into one aesthetic product.

problem statement Gianna is a 4 year old girl whos parents split and live in different towns. Gianna is constantly traveling between both her mother and her fathers house, and has many belonging she likes to keep with her at all times.

Ergonomics Group Project
The goal of this project was to redesign and improve an existing handle of a specific product. Our group decided to redesign the standard floor jack handle. We chose this handle because it exists as a tool that requires force in order to work properly. The force being exerted on the jack handle creates pressure on the hand, therefore an ergonomic form is essential for comfort when using the product.

User Testing & Survey
After group observation of all existing mockups, we settled on three final forms. We used the three wooden mockups to test user preference. The test trials were accompanied by a survey in which we gathered information about each individuals thoughts about jack handles as well as which form they liked the most.

Rocket Car Project
The Rocket Car Project presented the challenge of working with boundaries while designing a functional form. I wanted to create something that looked fast as well as striking. I kept the overall form of the car slightly rounded, and used swift points that trail behind and above the car to give a sense of speed.

COMPASTE
100 % Compostable Toothpaste Packaging
One of the biggest issues with consumer products is that most of their packaging lasts much longer than the actual product itself. Packaging Usually ends up in landfill or worse, all which pollute our earth. The challenge was to rethink the way current packages are made today, and invent a new solution for the packaging waste problem.
The challenge was to pick either a water, toothpaste, or laundry detergent package and redesign it so that the packages end of life had less of an impact on the earth. I decided to redesign the current method of toothpaste packaging.

Natural cork is 100% renewable, recyclable and biodegradable. Cork production is eco-friendly and sustainable.
PLA:
Polylactic Acid, or Polyactide (PLA), is a biodegradable polymer derived from 100% renewable resources. PLA, comparable to petroleum based plastic, is now used in a variety of industries including packaging, clothing, medicine and more. Classified as GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe) by FDA, PLA is a nonvolatile and odorless polymer.

Foundation Projects
The Rectilinear and Curvilinear projects focused on understand form and shapes.
The Rectilinear Project focused on understanding asymmetrical balance and composition of shapes. Using three rectilinear shapes, I wanted to create a sense of different weights and forms being distributed around a single dominant piece.

The Curvilinear Project focused on
3-Dimentional curves and cross sections. I wanted my piece to seem
as if it were twisting around itself. Since I could not successfully achieve this form with the restrictions on how to craft the piece, I decided to try and create an illusion by making certain parts longer than others.

Ergonomic Glowing Flashlight
The flashlight challenge was to create a well-crafted appearance model of a flashlight, we were to integrate sketching, orthographics, and thorough planning into our design process. My flashlight represents a glow in the dark, ergonomic design that is comfortable to hold as well as easy to find in the dark.

Many Flashlights on the market today are designed with a cylindrical shape, not taking into consideration ergonomics. The market for glow in the dark flashlights is also very limited.

Taking into consideration the internal components of the flashlight was an essential part of coming up with an appropriate design form. Components that were to be incorporated were 4 double AA batteries and the flashlight bulb and housing.

The boon box project presented the challenge of designing a product that was manufactured in the most logical means possible. Understanding materials and process’s, including bill of materials, were tools used to design this speaker system.

Many people who participate in water sports have few options for a suitable speaker system that will accommodate their desire for listening to music. Very few powered speaker systems are completely submergible, and cannot withstand extreme water sports.

I wanted to create a speaker that would be suitable for any sort of water sport boat. I explored the different curves that most water sport boats have. I found these areas to have an opportunity for similar design.
