    Objectives and functions:

    To aid the task of reconstruction of the war-affectedeconomies of Europe and assist in the development of theunderdeveloped nations of the world.

    As of today, the World Bank is a group of five internationalorganisations responsible for providing finance to differentcountries.

    It is entrusted with the task of economic growth andwidening of the scope of international trade.

    Emphasis on developing infrastructure facilities likeenergy, transportation and others and decided to divertresources to bring about industrial and agriculturaldevelopment in these countries.

    HISTORYThe world bank is one of the two Bretton WoodsInstitutions which were created in 1944 to rebuild

    a wartorn Europe after World War II . Later ,largelydue to the contributions of the Marshall Plan ,the

    World Bank was forced to find a new area in whichto focus its efforts.

    How it differs from world bank

    groupWorld Bank comprises only two institutions:

    the international bank of reconstruction anddevelopment (IBRD) and the internationaldevelopment association (IDA), whereas the latterincorporates these two in addition to three moreinternational finance corporation (IFC), multilateralinvestment guarantee agency (MIGA), andinternational centre for settlement of investmentdisputes (ICSID).

    Voting power

    In 2010, voting powers at the World Bank were revised toincrease the voice of developing countries, notably China.

    The countries with most voting power are now the united

    states(15.85%), Japan(6.84%), China (4.42%), Germany (4.00%), the United Kingdom (3.75%), France (3.75%), andIndia (2.91%).

    Under the changes, known as 'Voice Reform - Phase 2',other countries that saw significant gains included SouthKorea , Turkey, Mexico, Singapore, Greece, Brazil, India,and Spain.

    Most developed countries' voting power was reduced, whilecountries including Nigeria, United State's, Russias

    and Saudi Arabias voting power was unchanged.
