Sätila of Sweden is a leading designer and manufacturer of hats,

beanies, headbands, scarves and other knitted fashion accessories.

Our products are sold in more than 15 countries across the world

and are used by adventurers and city slickers who rely on quality

and treasure stylish, fashionable design. A genuine craftsmanship

combined with a modern design and production form the basis

of our success. Our story, which begins at the end of the 19th

century, is based on old Swedish traditions, solid know-how and

tremendous devotion.

Plowing his fields in 1896, Johannes Nilsson could never have

imagined that he was nurturing a seed that would grow into one

of Scandinavia’s most successful hat manufacturing companies.

But for each day cultivating the earth, he came closer to realizing

that the future was in the textile business. And in Sätila, in the

heart of the Swedish textile region, the circumstances for textile

production were perfect. The skills and the desire to work with

textile materials pervaded the entire region. And the cold Nordic

climate fostered a natural demand for knitted, warm garments.

During the 1910s, Johannes established a knitting factory for the

production of children’s socks. When Johannes’ son Kjell took

over the company in the mid 1940s, he enlarged the factory and

modernized the machinery. Socks, sweatshirts, scarves, mittens

and knitted hats were manufactured during the following

decades. At the end of the 1960s, however, the production

focused on knitted hats, beanies and accessories.

KNITTED IN SWEDEN

Development was rapid and the factory was enlarged almost every

fifth year. When Ingemar Stenmark put on a Sätila hat and won an

unprecedented number of alpine World Cup races in the 1970s,

our sales skyrocketed. During Ingemar’s most successful period

we sold 50,000 to 100,000 pieces annually of the now legendary

Stenmark hat. Rumours about the little hat manufacturer with the

great quality began to spread internationally. And thus we changed

name from Nilsson’s Trikåfabrik to Sätila of Sweden.

During the ensuing decades we expanded onto new markets,

building our brand on an international level. Although extremely

proud of our heritage, we have evolved continuously and now boast

a highly modern production plant that features the latest knitting

technologies. The production still takes place in Sätila, Sweden, at

the same place where the company was established more than 100

years ago.
