Blair’s Got Talent - Open Mic Talent Night at the Kastle
The Kastle was packed on Tuesday evening to watch a bountiful feast of music, dance, and comedy. Our
leaders warmed the audience up with 2 sets of songs. The evening was opened by the French dancers and fol-
lowed by a skit from Sweden. The night included singing, and performances using guitar, viola, saxophone,
violin, tambourine, and a percussion box. Songs ranged from the traditional to pop. A traditional favourite,
the Gibraltans got everyone on their feet moving and grooving. Not to be outdone, the Spanish brought it on
with the Macarena. The Icelandic Scouts performed a lovely lullaby and the Canadians ended their perform-
ance with a human pyramid. The Connecticut Contingent from USA played ‘Scotland The Brave’ on the
Boom Whackers. Albert from Scotland performed magic tricks and Matthew from Scotland gave a stand-up
comedy act. Blair Atholl is blessed to have so many talented young Scouts. The performers included:
Austrian Dancers, Canada – Hayleigh, Ellie, Canadian Dancers, Danish Dancers, French Dancers, Gibraltan
Dancers, Iceland – Anna Margret, Icelandic Singers, Japanese Dancers, Scotland – Albert , Calum, Ian,
Gregor, Rodaidh, Jasmine, Matthew, Nadia, Rhonan, Blair, Logan, Conor, Beth, Ruby, Spanish Dancers,

There is no “I” in Team but there is in Chicken
The No “I” in Team activity has been quite elusive. The reporters for Kastle Kurrents have search for the past 2
days for this team. Other Leaders and Scouts have been sent on a wild goose chase. Just to set the record straight,
this team meets by the tree line above the Scout toilets. The objective of this activity is to improve communication
skills and make new friends (both of which have an “I” in them). The group uses several ice breaking activities
such as lining up by house number without speaking. Not sure what they were communicating in the picture but
you be the judge of that. Another activity has a ‘Survivor’ flare to it as the team is blind folded and must play cap-
ture the flag under the direction of a single non-blind folded member. Teams must also navigate an obstacle course
carrying an egg inside a long tube. This particular exercise got the attention of the Castle Blair chickens on Mon-
day who invaded to save the eggs from our Scouts. At the end of the session, all return back to Subcamp with new
friends.
NB No eggs were harmed in the writing of this article.
Art Attack -#explodingcolours
So there is no paintball at Blair Atholl but that does not stop our Scouts from using art as a cover for
camp blitz. The onslaught starts ever so innocently as an origami exercise (meaning "folding", and
kami meaning "paper" - the traditional Japanese art of paper folding). Once a sufficient arsenal is
mustered, the paper balls are filled with paint and the fun beginnings. Four teams go head to head in
combat splattering each other in red, yellow, blue, and green paint. One team had so much fun they
were overcome with giggles and were found ROTFL (rolling on the floor laughing). Who knew ori-
gami could be so fun.

Fencing
Do you have the need to hit someone? Then Fencing
is the place for you! It will help you to test your
agility, quick thinking and initiative. You will
need to have concentration to stay on point and
avoid those pointy swords.
You will learn to wield and use your sword to
defend yourself from your opponents. Some people
even say that you could become as good as Sharkey,
but that’s a wild claim. His speed is often
referred to as “playing chess but at a million
miles per hour”
To become a true Fencer you must wear the proper
clothing to avoid getting hurt; although some
people do believe that the “trousers look like
diseased gala pets”.
Some advice you might ask? Well we know that you
have to be focused and to always keep moving, to
not be left handed (although it may give you an
advantage).
Goodbye Dear Camp ‘Pet’
Martin The Rubbish Pig has gone.
On the 29th of July 2014, a much loved family pet was ‘taken’ from us by his creator
Dr Willem Something Ross. Family pet of Deeside 1 and Trapper Trails 2, he lived a
great life. During his stay on this earth, he went kayaking, sailing, climbing, and all the
other activities here at the Blair Atholl. We found him in a pile of rubbish and he
instantly was a part of our lives. We will miss you.

HoHo! (Not an article about Santa) As most of you will know Blair Atholl does not end with the putting out of fires for many of the participants because there are a great number of Scottish scouts taking home an overseas guest with them. This initiative runs over a number of days and is designed to let international scouts experience daily life here and maybe see a little more of this beautiful country then a field in the middle of Perthshire (though it is a very nice
field, it has to be said). Choosing who to take home or go home with proves to be tricky for some, others find that they know from the first day or meet new people during their time at the camp; some even go home with
What would you change about the camp?
Elenor from Morrison; “I would change the times we go to bed because we don’t
get that much time to have our supper go to the toilet get cleaned up and then go to
bed we just sort of have to go straight to bed. There also should be gymnastics and
athletics in the activities.”
Pablo from Maclean: “ I would change the weather because we are from Spain and
its really hot there and its cold here.”
Andrew from Stewart: “I would like to have lots of big paddling pools around all
camps so we could just go in whenever.”
Jenny from Stewart: “I thing I would like to change the inspections
because I thing that there to long and they need to be quicker, and
more time to deal with the food and after.”
Caitlyn from Robertson: “I wouldn’t change anything because it’s all
really good and enjoyable.”
Sharkey: “Every Scout should be able to have the same experiences
and opportunities when they come to Blair.”
Eva: “I also feel sorry for those who do get a
chance to come to experience Blair for them-
selves.”

Dear Auntie Freeze,
Help! I am in a panic, Blair Atholl is ending and I have to go back to real life. I am not
ready to leave all my new friends for the mundane life of sleeping in a real bed, hot show-
ers, and Mum making my meals again. Is there any way I can stay longer?
Signed Loving Blair Atholl
Dear Loving Blair Atholl,
My how time flies! Just a few days ago, my little Scouters were complaining of freckles, no show-
ers, and horrid smells. Now you are not wanting to leave J. We will all have a bit of a weep on Fri-
day as we travel back to our homes. As with any change in lifestyle, one should ease back into
modern life slowly. First, pitch your tent in the garden and spent a few nights there. Have your
Mum make all your meals for at least 2 days on the BBQ before attempting anything prepared
indoors. Keep the showers lukewarm as your body needs to adjust to warmer water. Assimilate
slowly with the electronics and limit your Facebook access to 1 hour a day for at least a week.
Lastly, email or snap chat with your new friends daily to stave off separation anxiety. Best of
luck on your re-entry to civilization.
Cheers, Auntie Freeze
