CONTEMPORARY DANCE6

What lies beneath when we ‘break the surface tension’ of a relationship? Bold in its vision and deeply evocative, Lisa Wilson’s Lake literally fl oods the entire performance area. This large square pool of water is part of a brooding set designed to evoke a damp, swamp-like atmosphere as powerful bodies carve their way through the liquid’s opaque surface.

An unlikely couple arrive at their favourite spot – a lake surrounded by haunting trees. Unbeknown to them, a water spirit watches the couple from underneath the trees. An ominous presence, she comes between the couple; foiling their eff orts to kiss and make up; seducing the man; then almost killing him. She is everything that makes us question our relationships.

Serene. Calm. Haunting. Menacing. This work refl ects on the journey of a relationship, evoking its path from sparkling refl ection to murky depths; from intense beauty to chilling isolation, to u er wilderness and our deepest sense of our selves within the world.

DANCE THEATRE14

A new life awaits – be ready to celebrate! This vibrant fusion of latin dance, theatre and comedy by Latin American Dance Champion, Emilio Ela Rose, is reminiscent of a uniquely Italian/Australian version of West Side Story.

Inspired by his own family’s true story, Emilio dynamically recreates the struggles and celebrations of Italian migrants of the 1950s. Ciao! places the audience at the heart of the tantalising experience of encountering Australia for the fi rst time with hilarious consequences.

An emotionally charged story of a young Italian man as he leaves his war-torn village desperately in search of a new start. He arrives in one of the farthest continents of the Southern Hemisphere uncertain of what to expect. His dilemma becomes one of embracing the unknown while remembering his lost culture. An extraordinary story of le ing go, hope and trust.

What happens when two social workers try to show six men how to manage their anger?Geoff Paine played nice guy Clive Gibbons in the early years of Neighbours. Twenty years later, his real life neighbours-from-hell proved life wasn’t like the TV show. One fateful night, he fi nally snapped; headbu ing his neighbour while an onlooker sang the Neighbours theme song. Arrested and ordered to a end an anger management course, Geoff discovered that the most surreal part of this tale was still to come.

This hilarious show is based on real stories and real people. The workshops are run by social workers, Trev and Lorraine. He’s been there forever, she’s fresh out of university. Together with Geoff , fi ve other men take their seats – Nguyen (who thinks he’s there because his lawyer tricked him); Nicko (a fi ghter with some serious violence issues); Reg (a retiree with no idea what he’s doing there); Brian (who has lost another woman to an aff air); and Bogdan (a junkie who is participating because it looks good on his record). What happens during the anger management course has to be seen to be believed.

Unpack This! is a not-to-be-missed show for anyone who has ever lost their cool, blown a fuse, fl own off the handle, gone through the roof, chucked a wobbly or just been plain angry.

This show contains occasional course language.
