Special Exhibition:Hans-Peter Haas Collection – Masterpieces of Serigraphy from Ackermann to Vasarely
“Hans-Peter Haas (born in 1935), the German protagonist of screen printing, caught the art virus early in life. This pre-cision printer, who still works actively in Leinfelden-Echter-dingen in Baden-Württemberg, was long ago awarded the Federal Cross of Merit and is repeatedly recommended by one artist to another. His list of clients ranges from Salvador Dalí and Max Ernst to the ZERO artists, and he has earned a unique global reputation thanks to the outstanding crafts-manship of the editions that produces.
According to the painter and sculptor Heinz Mack, “Hans- Peter Haas is the printer for artists – and the artist among printers.” Haas is also regarded as an artist among collec-tors. At art KARLSRUHE, you can view a selection of the treasures that he has received over the past six decades from all these artists, now brought together by a single foundation. Hans-Peter Haas is very pleased “because such a show means again approaching the artists whom I was privileged to meet in my life and with whom I have often been able to collaborate. Each meeting was an unforgettable encounter.”

Special Show of Graphic PrintsThe exhibiting galleries submit top-class prints from their galleries’ programmes for this special show. A jury consisting of members of the art KARLSRUHE advisory board curates the submitted prints and thus ensures the high quality of the special show, which features woodcuts, etchings, litho-graphs and silkscreen prints.
Many of today’s internationally renowned collectors began by acquiring graphic prints and original editions. Affordably priced graphic prints and multiples offer opportunities to become more familiar with Classic Modern and Contem-porary art. The diversity of the medium is demonstrated by the presentation of prints at art KARLSRUHE, where approximately 200 square metres of floor space are devoted to exhibitors’ saleable prints and multiples, most of which are produced in small series.

The Hans Platschek Prize for Art and WritingThursday, 13 February 2020, 5 p.m.
The late painter and writer Hans Platschek is commemora-
ted by the Hans Platschek Foundation, which has awarded its art prize at art KARLSRUHE for more than eleven years. Previous winners include Monica Bonvicini, Michael Kunze and Jonathan Meese. Artworks by the honoured artist will be exhibited in Hall 1, where they will be shown in dialogue with carefully selected pictures by Hans Platschek.
Loth Sculpture Area Prize of the L-BankFriday, 14 February 2020, 5 p.m.
The Sculpture Areas, which can be seen each year in the four exhibition halls, number among the unmistakable features of the fair. The prize is awarded for the most outstanding pre-sentation among the approximately twenty Sculpture Areas. A jury of experts chooses the winner of the prize, which is endowed with 20,000 euros. The prize not only honours the sculptor, but also the gallery owner who takes it upon himself or herself to make it possible for the fair to present these three-dimensional artworks, which are often large-format and sometimes very heavy.
art KARLSRUHE-Prize for the best One-Artist-ShowSunday, 16 February 2020, 11 a.m.
The jury annually selects and honours a gallery owner and an artist who jointly staged a One-Artist-Show. The prize money, which is made available by the State of Baden-Würt-temberg and the City of Karlsruhe, finances the purchase of artworks from the presentation shown at the fair. The purchased artworks become part of the art KARLSRUHE- Collection, which is housed at the Städtische Galerie.
Sculpture as a discipline and in public spaceThursday, 13 & Friday 14 February 2020, 1 p.m. & 3 p.m.

The presenters on the fair’s second day will be the artist Vera Röhm, art KARLSRUHE’s curator Ewald Karl Schrade, and advisory board member Christian K. Scheffel, who is the initiator of the “Blickachsen” sculpture biennial. All three speakers will focus their re-marks on three-dimensional art.

Sculpture as a discipline and in public spaceThursday, 13 & Friday 14 February 2020, 1 p.m. & 3 p.m.
The ARTIMA art meeting is an annual discussion series which takes place thanks to the art insurance of the Mannheimer Versicherungen. This year, the art critic Carl Friedrich Schröer and his guests will discuss sculpture. The ARTIMA art meeting will be opened by Manfred Schneckenburger, who was the curator of documenta in 1977 and 1987. He will be followed by the sculptor Olaf Metzel, who will share his experiences with sculptures in public space.

A view of the special show of Graphic Prints and Original Editions in Hall 1
