and conventions of real media products?and conventions of real media products?

Taking information from realThrillers and grasping a goodunderstanding of them made thetask of developing conventions andincorporating themes and codespecific to the thriller genre asimple and straightforward process.

The opening of PhoneBooth (JoelSchumacher,2002) wasvivid with thriller specific

conventions as well assuggestiveness towardscharacter backgroundsand the storyline.

We found the conceptsimple and effective andone we could pursue tocreate to a goodstandard with our

    project.

An ordinary person is thrown head first in to a climacticsituation which seems to only get worse the personmust make many difficult choices and is often

conflicted with the wants and views of the antagonist.

The bag suggests a more aggressive and rugged look in comparison thesuitcase as used in collateral as well as raising questions as to what it

may contain a code and convention of the t

Shades are usedagain to concealidentity and create asense of unease inthe minds of theaudience

Facial expression isstern and assertive.Empowering theimage andappearance ofconfidence in the

How does your media product represent particular social groups? How does your media product represent particular social groups?

    The close up of the

broadsheet newspaperssuggests to the audience thatthe victim could is intelligentand of a possible upper classcitizen. This view can bestrengthened by the presenceof the shiny metal watch, suggesting of the victimswealth.

The dress-up of boththe characters givesthem a sophisticatedand upper class look. With the victimsbeing more on theworking class sidedue to his slightlymore casual yet

    smart clothing.

Social groups were important tothe group when portraying the

characters and they are ofteninvolved In the storyline tocreate sympathy for a characteras well as a disfavoured feelingtoward the antagonist. (the darkand gritty environment in whichhe is introduced plants instantpresumptions towards hislifestyle and/or background.

The more vibrant environment of thevictim allows us to associate him withemotions and the buzz of life, where asthe dark and dull environment of the killersuggests an absence of emotion

The images below give a clear idea ofhow the software we were getting used to became obsolete whenintroduced to the new software due to the higher resolution of the footage, the two programmes have somemajor differences in term of operation and structure. The new software (I movie 09), took many hours ofpractice and much effort to master, before the group were ready edit properly. Still we were grateful of theextra experience and knowledge we had gained as a result of the process.
