April 5, 2014 To Whom It May Concern: Karen Teff: Professional Developer. Connt Specialist. Pedagogical Expert. Passiona Educar. It is with great pleasure that I write a letter of recommendation in support of Karen Teff’s application for the Grand Rapids K-12 Mathematics Instructional Coach. Her experiences working for students, side by side with district colleagues, and together with Mathematics educators throughout Minnesota have forged a path towards a leadership role in education. Karen Teff is a Nationally Board Certified content specialist in Mathematics. Extending beyond the classes she teaches, her expertise has been sought across the K-13 spectrum. Whether creating pacing guides to aid new teachers in and outside of Deer River, promoting alignment of K-12 standards/ benchmarks, teaching college level courses both at the high school and at Itasca Community College, or presenting workshops on standards based grading, Karen thrives on a challenge. Karen Teff is a model teacher. Her pedagogical skills are innate. Utilizing a wide repertoire of teaching strategies including formative assessment, differentiated cooperative learning, technological enhancement, artistic representations, Socratic seminars, and a multitude of other strategies, Karen is continually seeking, employing, and reflecting on new strategies in order to reach every learner within her classroom. It is commonplace to utilize her skills to aid teachers throughout the region. Karen Teff is passionate. Like many talented and dedicated professionals, Karen finds joy in excellence. Working tirelessly for the benefit of students, she understands that the best support isn’t found within a bound textbook or packaged program. Support comes from a passion to always do your best and provide the best opportunities for every student to succeed. It’s difficult to imagine losing such a talented educator. She is an asset to our students and teachers in Deer River, but I am confident that any teacher that has the opportunity to work with Karen Teff will learn something new.
