It gives me immense pleasure towrite to you as the newly electedco nve n or o f Pu bl i cat ionCommittee for the year 2016.This being first edition of the year2 0 1 6 wi l l co nt ai n mo reinformation and activities of the

annual elections. However, other activities thattook place during the month of December 2015will not be ignored. I wish to inform all of youthat it is my vision to turn this Network into amonthly magazine which contains somethingfor everyone. We wish to incorporate a page forthe children, a page for Women which shouldinclude fashion & style, recipes and events.

A section for sports and another for Club events,I intend to incorporate a separate section forMen’s fashion and style and a section for thosewho wish to write to us and give us yoursuggestions.

It is my desire to organize workshops forcommunications, classes for art and painting,music and Drama during the year especially foryoungsters.

Let me assure you that the New ManagingCommittee has consented to support mewholeheartedly in making this a reality. I wouldbe taking advertisement for the upcoming issuesand would request you to kindly support us.

We are introducing a team who will assist me inbringing this next month and I will be gratefulto any one of you who is interested in becominga part of that team.

Honorary Secretary’sMessage

Dear Members,

I am highly indebted to Almighty Allah for my election as Honorary Secretary of Karachi Club andtake this opportunity to appreciate worthy members for their overwhelming support and restedtrust on my faculty to serve this elite Club yet again.

As now elections are over, we have to act as one team, concentrate on future coursework and makeuse of all available expertise, talent and resources in such a manner so that our Club is recognizedamongst the best in Pakistan and offshore. The ongoing projects started by previous ManagingCommittee will be continued in accordance with plan. We anticipate to kick start ground breakingceremony of extension project on paramount priority. In this connection whatever technical,architectural and legislative impediments in the way will be resolved through consensus and true

professional manner.

The newly elected Managing Committee comprises of seasoned professionals and debutants, efforts will be made tooptimal utilization of their expertise and talent to accomplish our set goal in least time and resources.

Rule of law, transparency, equality, accountability will not be comprised at any cost. Effective measures will be adoptedto ensure reinforcement of existing security and vigilance system for safety and well being of our worthy members andtheir families. My office is always open for members to have their productive suggestions, proposals and guidelines inimage building of Club and would welcome all such ideas with open-heart.

In the end, I wish all members and their families a very prosperous, peaceful and healthy New Year!

President’s Message

Dear Members,

I bow before Almighty and feel immense pleasure in assuming office as President of Karachi Club. Myappointment in this role is just because of self-reliance, conviction and trustworthiness shown by ourrespectable members in my persona.

We have many challenges ahead to surmount which are not limited to upgrading existing facilities i.e.refurbishment of Swimming Pool, Gents/Ladies Sauna, Cards Room, Snack Bar and Annexe Gym on mostmodern lines meeting international standards, adding new facilities, but progress of already startedprojects by previous Managing Committee will also be monitored for their timely completion. However,our main focus will remain on to launch KC extension project without further delay on war footing basis,in this regard all hurdles in the way will be dealt with resourcefully. We have planned our priorities whichyou shall hear and witness in coming days and months.

Modification in rules to make them more transparent, automation of members’ documents to ensure accuracy and transparency,implementation of rules and regulation without discrimination will be component of my manifesto. Let me assure you that Clubresources will be utilized judiciously and in right direction, effective audit system will be introduced to maintain check andbalance. Efforts will be made to curtail uncalled-for expenses. A long standing demand of our members to give their daughtersthe right to membership will also be addressed at the earliest by calling in for a general body to amend the existing rule.

I am fortunate that my team is consisted of very talented individuals’ young and seasoned professionals, enthusiastic, energeticand committed to achieve set goals which we had promised in least time and resources with the blessing of Allah.

I am looking forward to your valuable support and guidance in achieving goals to make our beloved Karachi Club, one of theleading Clubs across Pakistan and globe.

The sudden demise of our dear HonorarySecretary, Mohammad Jawed Zakaria hasleft us all in great shock. May his soul restin peace. ‘Aameen’.

With the end of his tenure as HonorarySecretary of Karachi Club, tenure of his lifealso ended. The reflection of his characterwas obvious from his attitude as he wasvery kind and down to earth person. Hiscontribution towards the betterment ofKarachi Club was tremendous. He workedselflessly with utter dedication, andcommitment for advancement of the Cluband initiatives taken by him during histwo years is reflected in terms of Club’sever raising standards. He was man ofdiscipline and has implemented a set ofw e l l d e f i n e d r e g u l a t i o n s a n daccountability. It was his motive to set upInternal Audit System in a precise manner.

He was the man of great character andthese words of appreciation are notenough to pay tribute to such a great andhumble person. May Allah grant himpeace in the hereafter life and place inJannat-ul-Firdous. ‘Aameen’

Annual General Meeting (AGM)by Managing Committee

Annual General Meeting was held on12th December 2015 and as every year large numberof Life and Permanent members gathered at Karachi Club (Main)Lawn to discuss the matters regarding club affairs. The departing Managing Committee took thestage to present their Managing Committee achievements for the whole year. However, this year’sManaging Committee decided to dedicate all their achievements to Mohammad Jawed Zakariawhose sudden demise left Karachi Club Members in massive a shock and utter grief. The Presidentwith the permission of the General Body changed the order of the meeting and presented theGold Jubilee award to the members who had completed their 50 years of membership with KarachiClub as well as presented the seniority awards to the most senior staff of the club who renderedtheir services for over 37 years. The AGM concluded with the introduction of candidates whocontested for the Elections followed by Dinner.

A day without learning is like a day with breathing.

Elections 2016by Managing Committee

The most awaited event of the Club was held on Sunday, 13thDecember 2015. This is the day when all the staff, contestants andsupporters dedicate their day to the Club and the members contesting for the Elections along with theirsupporters reached the Club as early as possible to promote their campaigns and panels.

This year the battle was between two strong panels “Friends” and “The Vision n Democrats” and in eachgroup 1 President, 1 Honorary Secretary and 12 Managing Committee Members contested. Karachi ClubScrutiny committee members along with senior staff worked hard to ensure transparent and fair elections.The casting of votes started as usual on time and concluded at 5:00 p.m. Thereafter, the counting of votescommenced which ended with interesting results the members were waiting for. Subsequently, the newlyelected President and Honorary Secretary along with their Members of Managing Committee thanked allthe members for their help and support and each one gave a brief speech. The members wished all thebest to our new President, Honorary Secretary and Managing Committee Members.

Tajdar-e-Haramby Entertainment Committee

Entertainment Committee yet again organized a marvelous Sufi devotional musical event “Mehfil-e-Qawwali” on 5th December 2015 at Karachi Club (Main) Lawn. The highlight of the event was the enthusiasticparticipation of the audience, where more than 2000 members and their families turned up to enjoy thetraditional Qawwali’s recited by Amjad Farid Sabri who with his attractive vocals and style of singing notonly dragged the Qawwali lovers but also the youth.

It is worth mentioning the efforts and hard work of Entertainment Sub-Committee who under theConvenorship of Mohammad Munir Columbo organized thiswonderful Qawwali event and also ensured to be present till theconclusion of the event.

The best work you’ll ever do is working on you.

Handing & Taking Over Ceremonyby Management

Handing over taking over of the newmanaging committee was held on 16thDecember 2015 in the Karachi Club main conference hall.The outgoing management appraised the new Management and assured theirfull support. They also thanked the scrutiny members and staff for their effortsto take care of elections 2016.

Karachi club Swimming Team continued with its traditionwhen they participated in 54th Sindh Boys and OpenAge Group Championship held on 12 and 13 December2015. It was held at Karachi Gymkhana with usual fervor.The prowess of our team was instrumental in placingus as the 1st Runners Up. Our team secured slot withhefty 464 points. It was a startling performance by ourboys among 300 participants from 19 contesting teams.

Our young member Raid Sohail bought glory by breaking a record in 25 meters Back Strokein Under 8 age group. He was also declared Group Champion for securing the highest points.Our Under 8 age group team which comprised of Raid Sohail, Mohammad Affan, MohidJawed and Daniyal Alvi broke a record in Free Style Relay. Kazim Shabbir Ladhubhai brokea record in 25 meter Butterfly and Saad Amin broke two records in Open Age Group in 50meters and 100 meters Free Style. It was a quality verses quantity contest, where our teamexhibited quality. Our star studded team did it again and made us proud. Well Done !!!
