WASSILY KANDINSKY(1866-1944)

• Born in Moscow Russia• Grew up in a cultured family and learned to play the

piano and the cello.• In 1866 at 20 years old, Wassily went to study law and

economics at the Moscow University.• He had many interests and had the gift of teaching

himself many different skills.

Early Years1886-1986

• Wassily Kandinsky began to practice law after college.

• In 1895, Kandinsky saw an art exhibit that was French Impressionists.

• He was upset because he could not clearly recognize some of the objects being painted.

• This also intrigued him.

1896

• Wassily Kandinsky, at 30, decided to start a new career.

• He attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, Germany

Blue Rider Group(1911-1914)

• Kandinsky established himself fast through many art exhibits in Europe.

• Formed a group, in 1911, with other Expressionist painters and called themselves the Blue Riders.

• Kandinsky painted on color and design which he felt had meaning in themselves.

• He was a musician as well as an artist and thought if complex paintings as symphonies.
