The Legend Lives as GINO MONOPOLI captures the ‘essence of Elvis’. His love, admiration, and respect for Th e King
shines through in each and every performance. GINO’S ‘eerie’ portrayal of the rock-a-billy Sun Studio recordings, the patriotic Army years, the slick Movie years, the Sexy ‘68 comeback Special Show and the electrifying Concert years leave GINO’S audience spell-bound; not believing their eyes and ears, on their feet, and yelling for more!
GINO’S concerts are backed by the best Elvis Tribute Bands in North America. His true talent is evident when performing his high energy, interactive show while allowing his own brilliant personality to reveal itself. You won’t forget the GINO MONOPOLI EXPERIENCE!

Johnny Winter has been a guitar hero without equal. Signing to Columbia records in 1969 called largest solo artist deal of it’s
time, Johnny immediately laid out the blueprint for his fresh take on classic blues. Constantly shift ing between simple country blues in the vein of Robert Johnson, to all-out electric slide guitar blues-rock. Johnny has always been one of the most respected singers and guitar players in rock and the clear link between British blues-rock and American Southern rock (a la the Allman Brothers and Lynyrd Skynyrd.) Come to the Kamloops Convention Centre on October 7th and experience Johnny Winter and Band with opening guest Tim Vaughn. Tickets available at: Kamloops Live! On the Nature of Things
September 17 to October 29, 2011
The Cube is transformed into a projection room for Tara Gardner’s e Bones. Gardner explores her family history through a digitally
recorded performance of herself playing a Celtic instrument called the bones. Th e instrument was one of the few creative endeavours passed on to the artist by her father who valued hard work and utilitarian skills over creativity and artistry. Th e movement required to play this instrument and the framing of the work draw the viewer in while the practice of playing the music serves as a reminder of the artist’s father and a way of dealing with grief aft er his passing in 2009. Gardner blends traditional with contemporary music playing along to country songs on the artist’s MP3 player. Curated by Craig Willms, KAG Assistant Curator

The title of this exibit is meant to summon up the words and images created by Roman poet and philosopher Lucretius in his epic poem De
rerum natura. Its purpose was to explain Epicurean philosophy to Roman audiences in the 1st century BC.
Th e artists in this exhibition share an interest in returning to strikingly Modernist forms and structures. Sampling from a wide range of sources as diverse as advertising, found photographs, drift wood, and modernist art, these artists employ surrealist wit to repropose clichéd forms from our everyday urban environment and popular culture into extra-ordinary aesthetic tropes that challenge a stable understanding of both art and our modernity.
Th e artists include Kim Kennedy Austin, Andrew Dadson, Sarah Dobai, Rodney Graham, Alexander Gutke, Sofi a Hulten, Jack Jeff rey, Evan Lee, Kristi Malakoff , Shannon Oksanen, Kathy Slade, Gordon Smith, T&T (Tony Romano and Tyler Brett), Jacques de la Villeglé, and Neil Wedman. Raised on the mean streets of New York City, Walker never intended on becoming the funnyman he is today. Th e 15-year-old had dreams of becoming a professional basketball player, but when that didn’t pan out, Walker shift ed his focus completely and became an engineer at a local radio station. Comedy was always in his blood though and quickly, Walker was playing gigs to very pleased crowds. A Better Life draws its audience a rich portrait of Carlos, an undocumented veteran landscaper/handyman who
is struggling to provide more stable employment for himself and his motherless 14-year-old son Luis. Carlos also fears that Luis is slipping under the infl uence of neighbourhood gangs and inane TV. Carlos borrows enough money to buy a truck he needs for his landscaping work, but during his fi rst day on the job, his wheels are stolen. Believing he can fi nd the thief, Carlos, accompanied by Luis, embarks on a determined yet increasingly dangerous search. For Luis, their quest through the most elite and impoverished precincts of L.A is a journey of cultural discovery and for Carlos, a voyage of hope and dignity. As a strong portrayal of the plight of “illegals,” A Better Life illuminates the conversation about immigration policy with context, compassion, and understanding. Show starts at

In Th e Guard, Gerry Boyle (Brendan Gleeson) is a cheerfully corrupt small town Irish cop who becomes embroiled in
a scheme to scuttle a huge cocaine delivery. Truly a walking contradiction, Gerry follows a strict personal moral code, but also dips into the powdered evidence once in a while, and more than occasionally indulges his fondness for hookers and hard partying. As a sidekick for this fl amboyant personality, we have straight-laced Wendell Everett (Don Cheadle), the American FBI agent who arrives in Ireland to orchestrate the takedown. Th e Guard is also liberally peppered with pop culture references, which situates it securely in the hardboiled genre that Quentin Tarantino helped launch. Hip, lurid, and improbably lovable, Th e Guard has something of the moral gravity of the classic cowboy hero, perhaps a little like an unsentimentally absurd John Wayne.
Th e fi lms are screened at the Paramount Th eatre, 5th and Victoria. Tickets are $8, available in advance at Moviemart (5th & Seymour) or at the door; student tickets are $6 (advance sale
only). A $2 annual membership in the Kamloops Film Society is required and is available at Moviemart or at the door. For more information visit kamloopsfi lmsociety.org

Betrayal The Pavilion TheatreSeptember 22 to October 8, 2011
One of the fi nest dramas of the past century, written by one of the most important playwrights in modern theatre. BETRAYAL is the story
of a love triangle, told in reverse. Th e play moves backward in time, from the end of the aff air to its beginning, showing all the little lies and oblique remarks that reveal more than direct statements, or overt actions, ever could.
“…marvelous scenes, packed with suppressed tension, torn loyalties and confused, unspoken feelings…” - NY Times
A Midsummer Night’s Dreamby William Shakespeare, directed by Heidi VerweyOctober 26 to 29 & November 2 to 5, 2011
The course of true love never did run smooth…Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” is a timeless tale of love,
dreams, and identity – with a dab of supernatural magic for good measure. Full of rich characters and fascinating plot twists, this invigorating and riveting play is one of the Bard’s fi nest and most accessible comedies.
TRU’s Fall 2011 production updates the locale but keeps the original lyrical language intact. Come join Puck, Bottom, the Lovers, and the fairies in the surreal high school of the near future. Lord, what fools these mortals be!
