Annual Children’s Christmas Party

It’s Up and Away for Kalif Klowns

Another great public relations triumph is moving

forward at full steam as the Kalif Klowns prepare

for another fabulous Christmas Party for all Sheridan

kids as well as those in the surrounding area. The

Christmas Party will be held at the Kalif Temple on

Saturday, December 5, 2009, from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00

p.m. with free gifts and Christmas stockings lled

with goodies. A bill of fare will consist of hotdogs, chips, and pop. Santa will be present in full uniform

to distribute the gifts and listen to the requests from

the little ones as to their gift wishes for Christmas.

The Klowns, as in the past, will set up three serving

tables and will be in full uniform entertaining with

their usual antics and, of course, building the

character balloons for which they are famous.

It has always been the goal to have 1,000 kids attend

this party. They have been close on several occasions.

Last year 902 kids attended which was a record thus

far. As you can appreciate this is a great challenge and

the Klowns love it and invite all Nobles who would

like to assist to call Klown President Noble Warren

Pearson at 752-0394 or Noble Bob Gould at 674-7270. Come down on Thursday evening, December

3rd and help stuff stockings. There is always a place

for you to assist in this great undertaking.

Nobles, please remember all the people who attend

are guests in our house, so greet them with a big smile

and let them know who we are and what we do.

See you at the party – wear your Fez!

 Yours in the Faith,

 Bob Gould

Recorder’s Ramblings by “JJ” Dunlap

The mighty Kalif Playersare in nal rehearsals for their

presentation of “The Balladof Gopher Gap” melodramato be presented November

12-14th , 2009 on stage at the Kalif Shrine Center. There will be a $17.00 per person dinner theater on

both Friday and Saturday nights and you are urgedto buy your tickets early, as both nights are usuallya sell- out. Advance tickets are available at both theRecorders ofce and the Kalif Oasis. Remember, the Saturday performance is for adults only.

The Kalif Kourageous Kitchen Kan-A-Bulls gavea Stag dinner report at the October Kalif Templestated meeting. Noble Fred Case reported that over seventy Nobles were served steaks, but the Kan-A-Bulls had only received in the neighborhood of forty-ve advanced reservations for the Stag. Thiscreates a huge problem for the Stag Committee inknowing how many steaks to order and how muchfood to purchase and prepare.

The easy answer is for the Nobles to show a littlecourtesy and call in and make advanced reservationsfor the Stag. Maybe the Kan-A-Bulls should startchecking the reservation list and serve the Noblesthat have reservations rst! The rest of you can go tothe back of the line and hope there is something left.

The Kalif Klowns have been busy going tothe schools and local businesses passing out the

brochures for their annual Children’s ChristmasParty. 1000 children is their goal and they couldsure use some help on Saturday, December 5th at the

party or Thursday evening December 3rd stufngstockings with candy and toys.

Eight Novice petitions have been turned in and

voted on for the Kalif Fall Ceremonial to be heldFriday and Saturday, November 20th and 21st. Wecould sure use more petitions and they can be turnedin or mailed to the Recorders ofce. Get them inearly and don’t wait to the last minute. We need toget the schedule of events to the Novices and their Ladies in advance of the Ceremonial. Look for thefull outline of events in the Potentates message.

The Kalif Klay Busters are planning to rafe off another shotgun as a fund raiser for their Klub.

Noble Mo Schwartz is the one to contact if youare interested in shooting clays with other Klubmembers or to get a rafe ticket. I don’t knowanything about shooting clays, so I asked Mo

and he said the special secret for successful clayshooting—you have to sneak up on them on your hands and knees very quietly! Hands and knees? The last time I saw Mo on his hands and knees wasat a wine tasting – for him, any wine dated beforefour o’clock in the afternoon is vintage!

Nuff of this stuff for this month – See you at theCeremonial.

Kali Klowns ront and Center“Shriners Having Fun and Helping Kids” was very

evident as the Klowns entertained the kids at the annual

five-year-old birthday party at Sheridan Memorial

Hospital on September 19, 2009 with an attendance of

83 kids of which 49 were ve-year olds, plus parents

and grandparents.

As the Klowns re truck (Big Red) made its grand entry

to the staging area with sirens at full pitch, bells ringing,

the re truck chugging and pufn, you could see the

excitement and surprise as well as the anticipation that

was in the eyes of the birthday kids. They knew that

this was the day that they were going to get a ride on

Big Red. The kids were not the only ones who enjoyed

this day as the parents took turns and rode.

The re truck was manned by qualied Nobles with Fire

Chief Noble Richard Rexroat at the wheel accompanied

by Noble Bill Hanewald riding shotgun and Nobles

Warren Pearson and Bob Gould in charge of security.

Noble Lex Denson with his great expertise in the art of

molding character balloons had a full day as he was kept

busy lling the requests from the little ones as to the

type they wanted. What a great job Noble Lex brought

to the table for this event.

A tip of the Fez goes to these ve Nobles as the Public

Relations generated from this event was overwhelming.

The accolades received from the kids, parents, and

grandparents made each Kalif Klown who participated

proud of what they had accomplished this day. Good

Job Klowns.

A tip of the Fez also to Cecile Pattison who made

this another great day not only for the hospital but also

for the Kalif Klowns. Thanks Cecile for allowing the

Klowns to participate in something each and every one

of us enjoy “Shriners Having Fun and Helping Kids” is

what we do best.

A very Happy Birthday from the Kalif Klowns to those

kids who attended the party.

Yours in the Faith,

Bob Gould

A tip of the Fez to all the Nobles who participated inthe attack on the CommonCents gas station underthe command of Noble Warren Pearson to establishthemselves for the sole purpose of bringing greatrevenue to the Kalif Kids Transportation Fund.

A tip of the Fez also to the Moyle Company of RapidCity, SD (parent company of the Common Cents gasstations throughout the area) who by their generosityallowed us to collect money at the station for the fund. They also sponsor a festive Golf Tournament andsome of this revenue is returned to the participatingTemples.

Nobles, as has been stated many times before, thispromotion could easily be one of the large fund

raisers that we have at Kalif. However, it takesparticipation from the Nobles to make it even moresuccessful than it has been in the past.

If we are invited in 2010 to again make this atremendous plus to the Fund, please step forwardand contact Noble Warren Pearson and advise himthat you want to be a part of this and you will takeyour four-hour stint at the station.

Great job Noble Warren and all your Nobles. Watchfor the final tally in a future Kall. Remember, success

is always achieved through participation.

Yours in the Faith,

 Noble Bob

2009 HonoraryPotentate

    Noble Jerry Voorhees was

named as Honorary Potentate

for 2009 by the Illustrious

Potentate Steve Schlenker.

If not due to his untimely

death in 2007, Jerry and his

Lady Bonnie would haveserved as Potentate and First Lady in the year 2009.

Jerry be honored in this way. His widow, Bonnie, was

Shriners Village.Comis Up and Running

If you were at the Imperial Council Session thisyear in San Antonio, then you had the chance to get

a sneak-peek at Shriners Village - a new, excitingonline community for Shriners only.

Dubbed the

“Google of Shrinedom,” Shriners Village will bethe fraternity’s new online home where memberscan get the latest news, watch videos, downloadeducation materials and resources, and generallyconnect with all things Shriners International andShriners Hospitals for Children.

This dynamic portal is the newest tool for reachingout to our diverse membership and deliveringrelevant and accurate information in a fun andinviting way,” said Mike Severe, Imperial Chief Rabban and Imperial Public Relations Committee

Chairman.

Phase One of Shriners Village will includelaunching the hub for everything fraternity membersneed to know and will include a lot of things thatShriners will want to know. Podcasts, photos andvideos will make Shriners Village an interactive

place you will want to visit often, because therewill always be something new to discover.

“Shriners Village will be the primary way wecommunicate information to only our members,”said Imperial Potentate Jack Jones. “Up until now,we’ve used our public web sites and e-mail tocommunicate electronically with Shriners. We’ve

really needed something dedicated solely to our membership for quite awhile.”

Since Shriners Hospitals for Children is such animportant part of “Shrine life,” a section of the site isdevoted to the health care system, keeping membersupdated about hospital news and developments, including messages from Shriners Hospital for Children CEO and President Douglas Maxwell.

Phase two of Shriners Village will include moreinteractive features, such as individual prole pagesand opportunities for members to network and

connect with each other – no matter which templethey belong to or in which country they live.

Shriners Village will launch in October 2009.You need your Temple name and your individualmembership number, which is found on your membership card, to log in.
