UNIQUE FEATURES OF KAITARI HANDLOOM TOWELS

The unique feature of handloom fabrics is the involvement of hand processes at every stage in production. The soft feel of handloom fabric, which every loyal user of handlooms will swear by, is due to handling of the yarn by artisans, which causes less stress on the yarn. The other dimension of the hand process however is the variation and irregularities in the fabric, which are not necessarily “defects” but are integral to and characteristic of handloom

Yarn - 100 % pure Cotton Yarns (Hank Yarn) which is meant exclusively for slow speed hand weaving process. Yarn Counts – 20s (for both warp & weft)

Weave Construction – 2 Ply Plain weave ; 100% Hand Weaving on Traditional wooden Frame looms

Dyeing Process - Traditional Vat Dyeing process by fire to give overall color fastness (Vat dyes have good color fastness not possible in any other class of dyes)

Weaving - Weaving done through a large network of women weavers from certified Weaving Co-operative Societies at village level (coming under

Government Weaving Centers - Handloom Department) ; this also ensures steady & regular supply

Weave Variations – We work with different state-run weaving units. Since each item is hand woven, the tension of the weave differs on each loom

due to the person weaving it and due to the yarn which could be from different lots. Similar to any handmade product, no two items are completely identical ,

although every one of them is 100% cotton

Color Variations – Another unique feature of hand wovens is the fact that the colors are close approximations of each other. Since each lot of yarn is custom-

dyed (using vat dyes through age old process of wood fired boiling water in vats) , a slight color variation is possible. For e.g. the peacock blue towel woven in

January at a certain weaving unit might differ slightly from the peacock blue towel woven in April at another weaving unit. These minor variations are the

trademark charm of a handloom product made by human hands; making each product unique & one of a kind

Production Lot size – Due to manual processing, batch size is small enabling minimum order quantity of 150 pcs. of Towels ( per color per design )

Product USP – Our towels are government certified as hand woven and come with the “HANDLOOM” mark. The towel fabric is a super absorbent of moisture,

light weight & takes little space (unlike Turkish Towels); it is hand washable, requires little water to wash, is soft on skin and dries quickly
