KAISER CHIEFS – I PREDICT A RIOT

Transcript of Kaiser chiefs – i predict a riot

  1. 1. Lighting There are two different types of lighting used within the video. Thereis the low key lighting which is used when we see the shots of theband playing and singing. In these shots we see a light behind themwith fans in front of them and a general light to allow the audience tosee them. The use of the light behind the band almost creates asense of intimidation and the fans give it a basement kind ofappearance. The other light is natural light for when we see the shotsof people in the streets.
  2. 2. Costume The costumes are all of the same coloursapart from the drummer who is wearing awhite shirt, however he wears a black tielinking him with the other members and aguitarist wearing a red-ish jumper whichcan only be identified by the lightingbehind showing this occasionally. The useof the black helps to enforce the rockgenre as black is associated with rock/punk music. Also the use of this coloursmatch the low key lighting so it clearlyrepresents what sort of genre this videoand song is.
  3. 3. Location The main location that is seen within the video isthat of which resembles a basement rave due todark lighting and the people of whom are jumpingup and down and dancing. The other locationscant be properly identified as they are just shots ofpeople on different streets getting pillows of whichwe arent revealed to why that is until later on inthe video.
  4. 4. EditingVideo showing fast paced editing: The cutting that is used in the video reallymatches with the pace and beat of themusic as for example when a little bit afterthe second chorus the pace gets faster tomatch the music which builds up thatparty, rebellious atmosphere of which thesong withholds and cleverly representingthe title of the song. There is a narrative to this due to the factthat the shots seen of people grabbingpillows progresses to all them ending upat this concert type event where there isthen a pillow fight; the use of cross cuttinghelps to enforce this.
  5. 5. Cinematography/ Mise EnScene The opening shot we see a long shot of the bands set withsmoke blowing behind it and with the bright lights setting arebellious and in a way dangerous mood due to the use of thesmoke. Throughout the video we see various close ups whichimmediately make the audience focus on him more as thelights behind him highlight him but also because you see aclose up of his face, listening to his words which almostrepresents that hes talking to you as well as the people in thevideo. This in turn goes with the title as its I Predict A Riot soyoure listening and watching only him. The other variety oflong shots show the band as one giving them a strong Video showing examplespresence, linking with the mixture of close ups on the crowd, of camera movements:almost building up this army. The use of slow motion shots ofwhen the crowd is pillow fighting draws in the audience moreas it did me as you get to focus on their expressions that aresmiling which then has the effect of making you smile as youfeel involved. Camera movements such as crabs, tilts andtrack in and outs are used to assist in building up therebellious atmosphere that is intended. Whenever the cameratracks in or out you notice that its not a smooth track its a veryquick and sharp enforcing the atmosphere.
