FALSAFAH

Skim Geran Penyelidikan Fundamental (FRGS) dapat menggalakkan penyelidikan asasuntuk menjana ilmu yang mampu menyumbang terhadap peningkatan tahap intelektual,penciptaan teknologi baru dan penyuburan budaya yang dinamik selaras dengan aspirasinegara.

PENYELIDIKAN FUNDAMENTAL

Penyelidikan fundamental merupakan penyelidikan asas yang boleh menghasilkan teori,konsep dan idea baru demi perkembangan ilmu.

OBJEKTIF

Penyelidikan ini bertujuan untuk melonjakkan penjanaan teori, konsep dan idea baru yangdapat menjadi pemangkin kepada penemuan baru yang menerobos sempadan ilmu danpenciptaan inovatif.

Application open to academic staff (permanent/contract (Malaysian/Non-Malaysian)) in Higher Learning Institution (HIL) with minimum one year of service duration left in current institution from the end date of FRGS application.(tempoh perkhidmatan Ketua Projek yang mana mestilah berbaki sekurang-kurangnya satu (1) tahu di institusi masing-masing mulaidaripada tarikh tutup permohonan FRGS).

Academic staff (Professor, Assoc. Prof.,Senior Lecturer, Lecturer)

For contract academic staff (Malaysian/Non-Malaysian), must have at least one co-researcher (permanent academic staff from same institution and specialization.)

The current FRGS must be more than 75% completed

Patent search encouraged. (Lens.org)

Letter of intent is also encouraged

At least one co-researcher from the lead researcher’s university

Minimum 2 co-researchers, maximum 5 co-researchers as team members

Title

“Don’t judge a book by its cover.”

The research must produce new idea/ theory/ concept/ methodology/ model new process. Therefore, the title must reflect this outcome.

Survey research is automatically eliminated.

• Specific in nature reflecting issues to be resolved/ novelty

• Brief and reflects the content of the proposal

Research background:

Literature review must be recent and relevant (last 5 years)

Demonstrate mastery of the subject, not something else. IR 4.0 (blah, blah, blah).

Problem statement:

Clarity of problem statement and research question/ hypothesis/ theoretical framework (if applicable.

Questions and answers

Q: Who is suppose to fill up the FRGS form?

A: Lecturers. If students, should have been checked thoroughly.

Q: Are applicants suppose to come up with the perfect proposal?

A: Blemishes v. serious flaws. Whole package.

Blemishes can be overlooked, but not flaws. Blemishes can be amplified when there are flaws.

Q: Is it possible that an application is sent to an inappropriate cluster?

A: Of course. Shunted to SSI, and vice versa. The head of the clusters will try their level best to get the

most appropriate person to evaluate the proposals. Fresh reviewers made to understand the criteria of

the proposal. Taklimat before evaluation.


Questions and answers

Q: Is it possible that same application is sent to other grant schemes (PRGS, etc.)?

A: Not suppose to happen.

Q: Is it possible that an application is submitted for a research that has completed?

A: Yes, but unethical.

Q: Can the panel come from the same university as the applicant?

A: No. Conflict of interest (same university, past/ recent association, future institution)

Q: Is it possible for a good proposal to be rejected/ poor proposal to be accepted?

A: Unfortunately, yes.
