Potentate The last four years have gone so quickly. Now, the anticipation and excitement of becoming your next Potentate is like a child excited about opening the presents under the tree. To many Christmas is just a holiday to many and a stressful one at that. It’s a time for buying gifts that didn’t need to be bought out of a budget that couldn’t afford them. It’s a time for squeezing parties and extra events into a schedule that was already too full. It’s a time in which many feel rushed and overcommitted when what they really need is to slow down and enjoy the season.

Christmas should be a time of peace, not of fear and unrest. We fear we may overlook someone on our gift list, or maybe they won’t like what we bought them, or perhaps they will think our gift too cheap. Christmas should be a time of hope. Christmas should be a time of love centered around the greatest love story ever told, the story of God who so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son. Christmas is the story of God’s greatest gift given to meet our greatest need, because God is Love. The Christmas story is a tale retold year after year, yet it never loses its majesty and it never ceases to fill our hearts with wonder. Just like our Shriner’s hospitals story never seems to lose the wonder of all the doctors do for our kids. The smiles and warmth you feel from the staff and kids when visiting. I can think of nothing better than that love I feel for each and every child we help.

Envision an artist painting a winter landscape. He paints the ground beneath a blanket of snow, with pine trees their limbs capped in white. Then, with a few deft strokes of his brush, night fell on the canvas and the entire scene was covered with semi-darkness. A grim log cabin was barely visible in the shadows. Finally, the artist dips his brush in the yellow paint of his pallet, and carefully add-ed to one of the cabin windows the warm glow of a lamp. The lonely light totally changed the tone of the picture, replacing the gloomy chilled night with a warm and secure homestead. What happened on that canvas happened two thousand years ago on the world's canvas. A tiny baby came into a grim and dark world, shining light across the barren landscape, a light that still invites men to come into the warmth of God’s grace and find their peace, hope, and love.

I thank all of you for your gift of friendship, love in what we do as Shriners, and encouragement during my journey to the East. I am hopeful that I will lead in a way that you will be proud to have elected me to follow this wonderful path. As I think of all the bless-ings God has bestowed on me, supporting our kids and the ability to work with all of you places very high on my bucket list.

From Elaine and I, we wish you a Joyous Christmas and Happy New Year full of peace, hope and love.

Mike Moore, Potentate

Chief Rabban

Greetings Nobles and Ladies,

I would like to thank the nobility of Kaaba shrine for putting their faith in me by electing my to the position of Assistant Rabban for 2020. I am looking forward to serving all of you and representing Kaaba.

I feel we have a Divan that works well together and our leadership will be strong but we need you to help make our temple strong also. A lot of clubs are getting smaller, we need to find new members to keep our clubs and units growing. Our Imperial Potentates message is Just One, if every noble can sign just one new noble our membership will thrive. If there is any-thing I can do to help restore or sign new members please let me know. As always any ques-tions, comments or concerns feel free to contact me. My number is 319-750-7997

Unit and club meeting Feb 8th at 10 am

Columbus City Lodge. We need all units and clubs to have

at least one representative attending.

Assistant Rabban

Nobles, Thank you for your support in electing me as your Chief Rabban for the year 2020. I am honored to serve you. The weather isn’t being nice to us this January, but at least we don’t have iguanas falling from the trees, like is happening in one of the southern states. The Club and Unit meeting will be at the Columbus City Lodge again this year on Febru-ary 8th. We will begin at 10:00 and will be finished by about 2:00, with lunch being served. Potentate Michael Moore has a lot of new information to share with every-one. We are looking for a good turnout.

Again this year I will be at as many club meetings as I can…...the calendar gets pretty full sometimes. Please make sure we know when and where your meetings will be held. Now is the time to plan your own 2020 calendar. There will be many exciting opportunities for you to spend time with fellow Nobles, and learn more about the Shrine mission. In May we can all party with Mike Moore as we celebrate his year at the Potentate’s Ball. From July 4th thru 9th the Imperial Shrine meeting will be held in Kan-sas City, Kansas. This is a great chance to meet the Imperial Officers and learn more about our worldwide organ-ization - and it’s only a 4 hour drive!! Our Central States Shrine Association meeting is also very close this year, to be held in Springfield, Missouri, September 2nd thru 5th. Let’s have a great KAABA turnout for these FUN and informative events. Reg Hughell Chief Rabban

High Priest And Prophet Greetings Nobles and Ladies,

I am extremely honored by your continued support in electing me as your High Priest and

Prophet for 2020. It has been my pleasure to visit some of the clubs and units that support

Kaaba Shriners during the last few months and the Christmas parties that I was able to attend

were certainly a lot of fun. Blackhawk Shrine Club booked a saxophone duo to play Christ-

mas songs and the Ft Madison Shrine Club had a fun gift exchange followed by a raffle with

lots of great prizes. I plan to visit even more of our clubs over the next year as my responsibili-

ties within the divan increase. I look forward to attending Oriental Guide training in Tampa

this spring with our new Oriental Guide and meeting some our counterparts from other tem-

ples.

As always, if you need anything that I can help you with, please email me at [email protected] or give me a call at (563) 320-3888. Fraternally yours,

Monte Harris High Priest & Prophet

Have you ever heard of the Widows Sons

Masonic Motorcycle Riding Association? The Widows Sons are an independent group of International Master Masons who ride motorcycles, and have organized to per-form the laudable undertaking of aiding and assisting the Widows and Orphans of Master Masons, to promote and bring awareness to Freemasonry in the work of motorcy-cling, and to support local charities. We are a motorcycle riding association. We are not a gang, a club, or 1% ers. We strive to be friends and on good terms with all other clubs, associations, and other riders we share the road with. While we do wear leather vests with chapter patches, it’s only to show other Widows Sons riders who we are and what chapter we are with. It is not to claim any territory. We buy our patches, not earn them. We are all law-abiding Master Masons out to have fun riding our motorcycles, and raise awareness and mon-ey for local charities. We also ride to other chapter events to show support for their chapter and for their local chari-ties. While the Widows Sons have chapters all over the world, in just about every Country, Iowa currently has 5

chapters across the state, and we are still growing. Are you interested in joining? Are you a Master Mason in good standing with your lodge? Are you a motorcycle enthusiast and have a love for motorcycles and fun events? While owning a motorcycle and riding with us NOT required, it is strongly encouraged to have all our brothers ride by our side. Howev-er, if you do plan to ride with us, you must have a valid motorcycle license and own a motorcycle of any make/model that is at least 500cc with current insurance. If you have any other questions or concerns, please email us at [email protected] and they will get you to the right spot. We look forward to hearing from you.

Blast from the Past

The Holidays are over Things have slowed down a little for most of us. I'm sure some are glad it’s over others have a little remorse. All in all I hope everyone had a great holiday season and will have a happy and prosperous New Year. This article was planned to be about a longtime Noble and brother that you see in the photo of the young solder. After I visited with this Noble and started to write the column I realized I would need more time to give it the attention it deserves. So my deepest apologies to all that was look-ing for that article. Guaranteed, his story will be in the next Kaabagram and you don’t want to miss it. In the meantime try to figure out who he is, I think most of us know him. The photo of Illustrious Sir Ruehman is from 1950 I think from a parade in Davenport that was when Kaaba had approx. 5,000 members. I'm not sure if that's a 49 or 50 ford but I wish I had it. As always if you see anything I put in this article that's wrong feel free to correct me or if you would like to add anything. Since last Kaabagram we have elected our Nobility for 2020. I would like to congratulate Ill. Sir Mike Moore and the rest of the elected and appointed Divan. Remember as Nobles it is our duty to support and help these guys anyway we can. I did not run for treasure I thought I could serve Kaaba in other duties better but I would like to thank everyone that helped me out. I will be serving this year as public relations chairman but I have no committee. Anyone who would like to help out please contact me, Even if it’s just an idea or a venue for advertising. Last Kaabagram I talked about starting a sportsman club I had only a couple a people show inter-est in it. Spring is approaching and we will be having a meeting and some fun so keep your ears on the ground so you can hear when this is coming up. We are attempting to make the Kaabagram better so The Kaabagram will be offering advertise-ments for businesses. The cost will be fifteen dollars for a business size ad for 1 issue or sixty dollars for a year. The Kaabagram will also be offering a classified column for non-business list-ings there is no charge. {Donations to the Kaabagram always welcome}. This spring and summer I will be attempting to but together what we use to call Shriner Days {standing at a business's door and offering candy} we will need help with this endeavor. Shriner Days is a low overhead with the potential to be a very good fun raiser. Remember our biggest problem is membership so support your blue lodge, parade, attend events show your Shrine Pride and lets blast from the past into a bright future Pray for the troops Blast from the Past Submitted by Mike Chapman P.P.
