percentage of female students in public school is G percentand the total percentage of the female teachers is Jpercent.

In fulltime madrasah, / percent of its teachers are femalewhile in mos'ue madrasah, there are appro(imately Ffulltime teachers. It is ob ious that we will see the ma%oritybeing female. In fulltime madrasah where future religiousleaders will be generated, F percent of its students arefemale and this is a reality. That means our children will be inthe hands of these women who will be responsible inshaping the future of our children. It is also in the hands of

women be its as a mother, grandmother, teachers, "sta ahsor e en a domestic maid that our children are left with eachday. This reality should ma$e us more aware andappreciati e on the ital presence and the impact of womenin our daily life.

Howe er, in todays reality we are still faced with somenotion on the misperception on women. #uch notion areIslam pre ent women from obtaining higher education, getting in ol ed in social wor$ and the impression thatwomen are wea$.

At tertiary le el, many had the impression that women do notre'uire higher education on the basis that her role as a wifeand mother do not need such 'ualifications. #uch beha iour resulted in certain 'uarters especially those who are againstIslam to thin$ that Islam practices discrimination againstwomen. There are some who e en lin$ed the Islamic dresscode for Muslim women as a barrier that pre entedinteraction in a society.

Ciewpoint li$e this had poisoned our minds whether or not itis due to stereotyping, ignorance or not being able to

understand the truth. If such iewpoint is not immediatelyrectified and left to be embedded in our minds, it will ha e adisastrous effect.

As a result, a man would feel proud if his wife, daughter andfemale relati es re eals her aurat to those who are not her close relati es or muhrim %ust because it is a modern fashionstatement.

It will be a sad day if the progression of women is impededdue to the communitys ignorance. If we were to analyse itdeeper, Islam aims to protect the womens aurat from being

seen by those who are not her muhrim. It also shows thatIslam emplaced the women to a le el higher and sent astrong signal to men that women are not se( ob%ects that areto be ogled at in order to satisfy their lust.

#ome ha e the impression that a woman who is also ahomema$er must be faithful to their spouse, e en if thehusband do not fulfill his duty as the head of the householdby not pro iding naf$ah, mistreating his wife and lea ingmost of the responsibility of managing the children FFpercent to herself.

#uch occurrences happened because we still thin$ thathusband has the outmost authority o er the wife. Husbandsare thought to be able to do anything he wishes since theright of tala$ lies in this hand. #ome husbands e en abusedthe gi en authority until their wi es become ictims of their unscrupulous action.

Islam ne er belittle the status of women nor it impedes their mo ement or freedom in being in ol es with social acti ities.

e ertheless, women ha e to mindful about their modestyand to obser e certain alues that are e(pected from them. This is important not only to the woman but to their muhrimssuch as spouses and close relati es or whoe er isresponsible for them.

9ur ignorance and misperception that has helped to shapethe modern women should not be made as an e(cuse. &henwe misinterpret the erses and hadith regarding women, itdoes not mean Islam is wrong in not pro iding the necessaryrights to the women. 6ut it is due to our narrow and myopic

    iew in understanding Islam itself.
