“We chose to share a short video
illustrating our campaign ‘Well
farmed: A portion of agriculture on
your plate!’ launched in 2012”.
“We focused on reaching local and regional level audi-
ences during the campaign, as we wanted to reach the
general public and especially children, but we think that
it covers an issue of European concern: the importance
of agriculture and horticulture in the past, present and
future. The video perfectly captures the atmosphere and
activities on offer. And it also allows people who didn’tget a chance to visit the roadshow to see what they
missed! We’ve had good feedback on the video — people
really like to watch it! It’s a simple but dynamic tool,
freely available online, that captures the essence of the
campaign, in a way we could not achieve with text or
photos alone”.

“The roadshow was an extremely
effective and versatile tool that increased
awareness of the Finnish RDP and also
fostered a sense of ‘rural pride’ amongst
visitors through its positive promotionof the Finnish countryside and the
opportunities that exist there”.
“The roadshow aimed to attract interest from anyone living
in rural areas, or planning to move to or do business in rural
areas. The idea was first put forward by a LAG and it quickly
became an action plan within the Rural Network Unit.
Branding and visual identity were crucial as the appearance of
the mobile unit — essentially a van — attracted the eye of
locals and increased interest in the show and consequently
the number of the attendees. The interactive activities at
the roadshow also achieved much media coverage.
We received extremely positive feedback and a similar
campaign concept has now been incorporated into one
local authority action plan and put forward for a regional
best practice competition. Finally, after publishing details
on the roadshow on the CRD Gateway, we now have more
followers on social media, and we hope to translate these
into new projects and partnerships.”

“ADEPT is very proud of this
information campaign that was our
response to the urgent needs of small-
scale farmers — both dairy and vegetable
farmers — and aimed to promote thecoordinated use of Romania’s Rural
Development Programme (RDP)”.
“We worked with farmers to create small local informa-
tion networks, to package lots of information in usable
forms for them and to improve their capacity to imple-
ment projects. We have developed tailored materials
such as Farmers Diary and Farm Record Sheets, and we
organised farm visits and meetings to help farmers gain
access to RDP measures. The campaign had a very con-
crete impact: increasing local incomes by over €2m per
year in the area.
The campaign proved that if the range of RDP support
measures is combined — and communicated — in an
innovative way, it can be very effective in supporting
small-scale farming communities. It deserves to be
shared Europe-wide with other rural developmentcommunicators, as it was seen by the majority of
stakeholders as a very inspirational campaign.”

“We were inspired by initial workon the ENRD’s Rural Development
Project’s Database to launch our own
version, on projects implemented
under the Estonian RDP”.
“Sharing experiences and knowledge is a worthwhile
activity because sharing ideas leads to innovation! For
our part, we see the database as not only informative
but a tool to inspire further networking. So we also use
the database to organise project visits and/or study
tours in Estonia. We also plan to incorporate Google
Maps, so that users can actually locate projects them-selves across the Estonian countryside — an approach
we’ve already successfully taken with our videos.
Also projects picked from our database are further
shared through the ENRD projects database. The
database is also in English so that non-Estonian
stakeholders and organisations can also use it.”

“At LAG Marghine we decided to use
social media (e.g. a Facebook account)
as one of our communication tools, asit is a powerful, relatively inexpensive
(staff costs only) and transparent way
to obtain feedback from citizens that
reveal both problems and opportunities”.
Our Facebook account allows for fast and easy
communication with our contacts, increasing informal in-
teraction and building a relationship of trust. We observed
that regular sharing of ideas leads to opportunities for
collaboration. Furthermore, the page sees a shift in our
communication style towards a more tailored, interactive
dialogue, both immediate and personal, and in a verycost-effective way.
Sharing our experience through the ENRD Gateway
platform has motivated us to become even more active in
our use of the Facebook page, which we constantly update
with new content, including responses to comments ques-tions and indeed criticism. We’re also delighted to see that
there has been a dramatic increase
in the number of visitors!”

“Our communication product is a
brochure to promote the Austrian
Agri-Environmental Programme
OPUL to a general audience”.
“We felt the best way to achieve this was to clearlyshow how the programme benefits Austrian farm-
ers themselves. So, we gathered around their kitchen
tables and asked them why farmers play such a
crucial role in environmental preservation, as well as
about their personal contribution on their own farms,
as a result of support from the programme itself. Wetranslated the brochure into English to reach as many
rural development stakeholders as possible. Its easily
downloadable on our website and we’re delighted to see
it on the CRD-G so that other networks can also benefit”.
