    Easter

    Jesus is alive!

Please follow this adapted schedule: • Connect Time (20 minutes):

Start 5 minutes after service starts • Large Group 1 (10 minutes):

Begin 30 minutes after service start time

    • Group Activity (10 minutes): In the Large Group script section

    • Large Group Part 2 (20 minutes) • Small Group (10 minutes)

Services will be at least 75 minutes today, so the typical flow of the lesson is different. We’ve got Connect Time, two Large Group video presentations with a small group activity in between them, and our official Small Group time. Before kids arrive, plan out who wants to lead which parts of the lesson. Choose one person to facilitate the Large Group videos.

As Small Group ends, play the new KC songs in the room (last 4 slides on the Keynote). Make sure kids have the music/Journey postcard from Small Group to take home!

Today’s Large Group presentation will include 2 pre-filmed video presentations, separated by an activity. The pre-filmed host will prompt kids to respond throughout the video, and it will be really helpful for you to respond along with kids. Model what it looks like to interact with the host.

  •

GOAL: Connect Time is all about engaging kids in an activity that allows them to connect with each other right away while simultaneously piquing their curiosity for Large Group and preparing their minds for what they’re going to hear. BAND-AID RELAY

    • Divide kids into 2-3 teams (You can divide into more teams if necessary depending on the size of your group, or how many volunteers you have. There should be at least one volunteer with each group.)

    • Have one volunteer stand in the middle of the room with a box full of Band-Aids (Set the box on the ground; the volunteer can be there to facilitate.)

    • Have teams stand in lines around the room, equidistant from the volunteer. • The first kid on each team will run to the box, get one Band-Aid, and run back to

the next kid on their team. The kid with the Band-Aid has to open it and stick it on the next kid’s arm or shirt (Tell kids that they’re not allowed to stick the Band-Aids on people’s hair or faces.)

    • That kid should then run to the box, get another Band-Aid, run back, and stick it on the next kid. Every kid on the team should get a chance to get a Band-Aid.

    • The first team to get through its line, wins! • Make sure kids are careful when sticking Band-Aids on someone else. If a kid is

uncomfortable, they can stick the Band-Aid on themselves. • If Band-Aid sticker peels are all over the floor, before going to Large Group, give

kids 30 seconds to pick up as many Band-Aid sticker peels as they can, and throw them away.

    TALK ABOUT IT

    • When do we need Band-Aids? • What else do you do when you get hurt or sick?

Before you go to Large Group, you can ask kids how their week went. You can also remind kids of the expectations for Large Group behavior: (1) be kind, (2) listen when somebody speaks, and (3) follow the leader’s instructions.

  •

Goal: Kids will understand that (1) Jesus rescued them by dying for them, (2) Jesus is more powerful than any enemy who tries to defeat us, and (3) Jesus’ rescue means that we don’t have to be afraid. Why? This weekend is a straightforward message of salvation. So it’s the most important! Tip: Describing the Gospel as Jesus’ rescue will help kids understand what the Resurrection means for them–that Jesus is so strong and loving, he rescued us from death.

REVIEW THE STORY 1. Why is there distance between God and us? (We make wrong choices and sin, and

God can’t be around sin.) 2. Who did God send to be our rescuer? (Jesus.) 3. What did Jesus have to do to rescue us? (Died on the cross; he took the punishment

for all the wrong choices we make.) 4. What happened after Jesus died on the cross and was buried in a tomb? (He rose

and came back to life! He left the tomb and went to see his friends.) 5. Why did Jesus go through all that to rescue us? (Jesus loves us, and wants to be

close to us.) MAKE IT PERSONAL

    • Tell kids that it’s time to celebrate how glad we are that Jesus rescued us and he wants to be close to us forever.

    • Give each kid a plastic Easter egg, and a ¼ page picture template. Set out markers.

    • Tell kids to draw a picture of themselves and Jesus to show that we are close to him now that he’s rescued us. After they’re finished, they can fold it up/roll it up, and put it inside their egg.

    • Hand kids a postcard, and invite them to download some brand new KC songs (that you’ll play for them at the end of the hour – see below) and come back to Kids’ Club for our special BRAVE Journey. It’s something that kids and their parents can do together!

Extra Time? Give kids a coloring page. After that, here are a few games you can play (on the following page):

  •

Easter Egg Hunt: Let kids take turns hiding their eggs around the room! Divide your group into teams, and let one team hide their eggs while the other team closes their eyes. Let them search for eggs, and whoever finds the most, wins! Just make sure kids keep track of where their special picture is. Freeze Dance: Play some upbeat music (use the 4 songs on the last 4 slides of the Large Group Keynote presentation) and have everyone dance like crazy while the music is playing. Stop the music at random intervals and have kids freeze in place until the music plays again. Then play the new songs while parents check kids out, and remind them they can download the songs at home!

  •

Today’s Easter service is a little longer than usual, so we’ve split the Large Group video into two parts, with a special activity in between. For this activity, have a few volunteers ready to set out the following supplies:

    • Stack of paper • Several chairs • A few pieces of rope • Several large grocery bags

Here’s the God’s Story video we’ll be watching during the Large Group video presentation: God’s Story / Easter: https://vimeo.com/39716113

*Click to play intro music Hey everybody! Welcome to Kids’ Club. It’s so good to see all these new faces here today. You all did a great job playing that Band-Aid game! Today, we’re going to talk about how we live in a world where people get hurt all the time… and not just on the outside. We get hurt on the inside too. The great thing is, God planned an amazing rescue to save us from all the wrong things that can happen. We’re going to watch a video, and you’ll have a special host teaching on the screen today! Ready? (Let kids respond.) Let’s see what he has to say. Video: Large Group Part 1 (About 14 minutes.) (Click to play Kids’ Club loop during the following game.) LARGE GROUP GAME (About 15 minutes with transitions.) We’re going to play a game before our host comes back and we watch the rest of the video. Everybody line up on this side of the room (Point to one side of the room and give kids time to congregate.) I’m going to stand on this side of the room (Stand on the opposite side of the room.) RED LIGHT, GREEN LIGHT OBSTACLE COURSE

    • A few of your leaders are going to set out some special obstacles all over the floor (let leaders spread out the following things across the open space between you and the kids).

o A stack of papers (Spread papers out evenly across the floor.) o Several chairs o A few pieces of rope (Lay the rope out in squiggly lines across the floor.) o Several large grocery bags (Open bags and set on the ground, standing up.)

    • When I say, “Green Light” you may slowly walk towards me, but you may not touch any

  •

of the obstacles in your way! The leaders will be watching, and if you touch something, you’re out!

    • When I say, “Red Light”, you have to freeze in place! • Play the game for about 10 minutes, alternating “Green Light” and “Red Light”. You

could also say, “Yellow Light” as a surprise and see what kids do. TALK ABOUT IT *Split into small groups and discuss the following questions for about 5 minutes.

    • Was it hard to cross the floor with all that stuff in between you and me? Why or why not? • What kind of stuff gets in between us and Jesus? (Kids may need some examples to

understand. Things like: making wrong choices, sadness, death, lying, hurting others, etc.)

    • Can we get close to Jesus again? Why? You’re right, because Jesus rescued us by dying on the cross! Our host is going to help us understand that a little better. Let’s see what he has to say. As you watch, pay attention to how we can be close to Jesus. Video: Large Group Part 2 (About 9 minutes.) *Dismiss kids to small groups
