Seminar on ‘Brands as an Intangible Asset for
Companies’
The Research Committee works with an objective to foster a research culture in the institute
by encouraging research activities amongst the staff and co-ordinate, support and promote
research attitude amongst the students. To create awareness for Intellectual Property Rights
amongst our students the guidance lectures were organized.
‘Brands as an intangible asset for Companies’ on 22nd
December 2018. Mr. Ahmad
Patel from Department of B.M.S was invited to deliver the lecture. He introduced the
symbols of different brands which are common in market and their impact on the
consumers. The speaker has highlighted importance of brands in everyday life.
Conceptualization of uniqueness of brands and how brands are intellectual property
along with examples known to world were emphasized by him. Total 80 students
were benefitted and were very interactive during the lecture.
‘IPR: Intellectual Property Rights’ on 5th January, 2019. Mr. Shahid Sukte from
Department of B.M.S was invited to deliver the lecture. He discussed on types and
importance of IPRs, Patents, Copyrights, GIs, Industrial designs, Brands, Logo,
distinctions amongst various IPR features, Cases and examples of IPRs, Website and
authorities for IPRs, etc. Total 53 students from IT, Biotechnology, BMS and B.Sc
faculty, attended the session.

International Workshop on Promotion of Angling as
a Sport among Women
A one day International Workshop on Promotion of Angling as a sport among Women was held at Powai
on 16th December 2018 organized by Department of Zoology and IQAC of G. M. Momin Women's
College, Bhiwandi and Maharashtra State Angling Association (MSAA) Mumbai including other NGOs
like Naushad Ali Sarovar Samvardhini (NASS), Indian Association of Aquatic Biologists (IAAB)
(Hyderabad) and All India Game Fishing Association (AIGFA) under aegis of University of Mumbai.
People across the society participated in this event to promote Angling and Women Empowerment.
Principals from various colleges, teachers mainly Zoologists, females from corporate world and Indian
and foreign student delegates participated in this workshop. First session was presentation on lake
conservation, fisheries and Angling. Assistant Commissioner Fisheries Govt. of India explained
importance of inland fisheries and opportunities provided by the Government. Second session was about
the Lake Fishes and art of Angling, which were conducted by ace anglers Mr. Jalal Kazi and Jorden
Rodriguez. A demonstration session was kept for new anglers and all participants were given separate spot
for angling competition among participants.

Collaboration with University of Mumbai
Report for Workshop on Avishkar Research Convention 2018-2019
Department of Students’ Development, University of Mumbai organizes Avishkar
Research Convention every year to develop research culture and scientific temper among
the students, scholars and teachers from under-graduate to doctoral level. This activity also
helps to develop skills, review new dimensions of explore areas of knowledge as well as
the unexplored areas of enquiry. During the academic year 2018-2019, Konkan Muslim
Education Society’s G. M. Momin Women’s College, Bhiwandi was approved for hosting
the Workshop on Avishkar Research Convention 2018-2019 by the Department of
Students’ Development, University of Mumbai for all the Colleges and Institutes of Zone
III (Thane District including Navi Mumbai) on 5th
September, 2018. It consisted of

other institutions and our College.

National Conference on Emerging Trends in Mycotechnology
The National Conference on ‘Emerging Trends in Mycotechnology’ was organized by
Department of Botany, Biotechnology and IQAC of G. M. Momin Women’s College,
Bhiwandi, under Star College Scheme in collaboration with Mycological Society of India
(Mumbai Unit) and Mycological Society of India under the aegis of University of Mumbai on
5th and 6
th January 2018.
The Convener of the Conference Dr. M. J. Kolet shared insights about the Conference and
highlighted several achievements of the College. The conference had messages given by
Hon’ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra Shri Devendra Fadnavis and The Education Minister of
State Shri Vinod Tawde.
The special issue of the Conference journal was released by all the dignitaries. The Inaugural
address was delivered by Dr. P. Laxminarasimhan, Director, Botanical Survey of India. He
spoke on diversity of algae, fungi, lichens, non flowering and flowering plants of India. He also
threw light on the various contribution of BSI in research activities. The key note address was
delivered by Prof. B. F. Rodrigues, Sir being expert in Mycology spoke about his exemplary
work in the field of Mycology and role of fungi in diverse fields.
Scientific Technical sessions 1 and 2 began with a talk on Need of Mycotechnologists
conservation in India by Dr. Kiran Ranadive from Saswad, Pune. Dr. Sanjay Singh from
Agharkar Research institute, Pune, Dr. M. C Srinivasan, former Head, Biochemical Sciences,
National Chemical Laboratory, Pune and Dr. U. N. Bhale, Department of Botany, Arts,
Science & Commerce College, Naldurg, Tuljapur, Dist. Osmanabad; were invited for the Lead
lectures. Lead lectures were followed by oral presentations. There were total 12 participants
from different states for oral presentations. The session for the day ended with the cultural
programme. The students of the DLLE i.e ‘The Department of Life Long Learning and
Extension’ regaled the audience by performing a Street Play titled, ‘Kaise Honge Kamyab’
addressing various current issues.
The second day began with Scientific Technical session no. 3. It was represented by Display of
Posters and Photographs. The number of posters displayed was 28 and photographs were 29.
Scientific Technical session no.4 began with the Lead lecture by Dr. Shilpa Verekar followed
by Dr. V. Mohan Scientist G. Forest Protection Division, Institute of Forest Genetics and Tree
Breeding (IFGTB), Coimbatore, TN. This was followed by oral presentations. Scientific
Technical session no. 5 was a panel discussion with experts from industries. The experts were
Dr. M.C. Srinivasan, Dr. Shilpa Verekar from Merieux Nutrisciences, Mumbai and Dr. Sunil
Kumar Deshmukh from TERI, New Delhi. Scientific Technical Session no. 6 began with lead
lecture delivered by Dr. R. M. Mulani Professor of Botany, Registrar, Swami Ramanand
Teerth Marathwada University, Nanded followed by the oral presentations.
The detailed Report of the two day National Conference was given by Mrs. Sarita Hajirnis.
Two of the participants gave their feedback and appreciated the work presented in the
conference. This was followed by the Prize distribution ceremony.

Konkan Muslim Education Society’s, G. M. Momin Women College had organized a One Day
National Seminar on ‘Trends in Mysticism’ on 10th
December 2016. The Seminar was
organized by the Department of Philosophy and Internal Quality Assurance Cell of the college
in collaboration with the University of Mumbai. The Inaugural Address was delivered by the
Coordinator of the Faculty of Arts, University of Mumbai, Dr M.S. Kurhade and Keynote
Address was delivered by Dr. Shubhada Joshi, Former Head of Department of Philosophy,
University of Mumbai. The Lead Lecture was delivered by Mr. Florian Kaiser, a scholar from
Germany. Presentations on various aspects and dimensions in Mysticism were delivered by 35
scholars and students from different institutions; in 4 technical sessions chaired by Dr. Amita
Valmiki, Dr Harsha Badkar, Dr. Vatsala Pai and Dr. Suchitra Naik, all eminent philosophers. A
feature differentiating this seminar from all others was the active role of under graduate
students as paper presenters along with the regular research scholars, teachers and professors.
