Tai Chi at PAMA!

Did you know we offer many types of Martial Arts here at PAMA. Tai Chi is the most gentle, but most effective of these practices. Here is a little information about the practice. Tai Chi Chuan is an ancient Chinese form of exercise originally created as a fighting art. Tai Chi was accred-ited to a Taoist Monk named Zhang San Feng as its creator. Its origins date back over 700 years, some say even up to 1500 years. Tai Chi is a type of Qigong (Chi Kung) practiced by millions of people worldwide every day. Qigong in Chinese means energy or breath skill, as Tai Chi when practiced correctly is always practiced using Qigong (breathing, energy) methods. Although Tai Chi was originally a Martial Art it is mainly practiced today as an excellent form of exer-cise with many health benefits. It is an exercise that utilizes breathing, visualizations and movements to work the entire body. As The Tai Chi Classics say “If one part of the body moves, the entire body moves”. Tai Chi Chuan was created by applying the concept of Tai Chi to very natural movements using relaxation and breathing to generate health, longevity and inter-nal strength and power. The philosophy of TaiChi is simple yet profound, in short, the idea that everything consists of two opposing forces that harmonize with each other to create a whole. We have an amazing instructor in Irene Speirs. Check at the front desk for days and times.

Yang – Yin White – Black Exhale – Inhale Release – Store Expand – Contract Give – Receive Offense – Defense

Why do we say that? Spill the Beans—meaning: Reveal a secret.

In ancient Greece, when voting in favor of ad-mitting a new member, a current member dropped a bean into a jar. The exact count was meant to be secret but sometimes the jar was knocked over and the beans spilled.

From the board game “Origin” or as my brother calls it “The lying through your teeth” game.

BLACK BELT NEWS

Belt Meanings White: Seeking Knowledge in martial arts Yellow: Just as a seed needs light to grow, the student needs knowledge to learn and grow. Orange: The sun rises and the sun sets. As with the morning's dawn, only the beauty of the sunrise is seen rather

than the immense power. The beginning student sees the beauty of the art of Taekwondo, but has yet to experience the power in the technique.

Purple: As the rays from the sun cause the plant to grow it blossoms into beautiful colors, just as the student begins to discover their ability and potential.

Green: As the seed grows into a young plant, the student’s ability and knowledge of the art begin to develop. Blue: The plant continues to grow and reach for the sky, the student continue to grow and reach for more

knowledge. Brown: A solid root has grown into the ground and holds the plant firmly

in place. The student has built a solid foundation of basic techniques upon from which to build on and learn new, advanced techniques.

Red: As the plant grows closer to the sun it’s red-hot heat scorches the plant. Here the student learns that with knowledge comes responsibility. The student has black belt technique but without black belt wisdom, maturity or sensitivity.

Black: Master of the Basics
