History
PSD Elementary Writing Committee was formed to examine best practices and the teaching of writing.
Committee was comprised of K-6 teachers, specialists, instructional coaches and administrators from across the district.

K-6 Writing Plan Rationale
Provides a framework for the teaching of the writing process
Identifies common expectations based on the Writing GLEs
Provides a common language

Why a writing plan instead of a boxed curriculum?
Allows flexibility in pacing, scheduling, integration and lesson sequence
Honors teachers professional judgment
Utilizes assessment data to meet student needs
Allows teachers to access a variety of writing resources

All K-6 Writing Plans follow the same format:

The Overview of Student Writers (from the GLE document) is located at the top of each plan.

Elements of COS from the scoring rubricare identified on the left side.

Skills are organized by trimester and are scaffolded to reach mastery by the end of the year.

Each trimester includes an instructional focus and GLEs organized by Six Traits on the left(*Conventions are located on the back)

while the right column lists the Genres/Modes/Forms that should be taught. Bulleted examples are for reference not all are taught each trimester.

Assessment recommendations are also listed for each trimester.
