Junk Mail Birdhouse Collage

SHAPE & COLLAGE

Time Needed: 1 session @ 40 minutes

CUTTING THE SHAPES Gather your collage papers: junk mail, envelopes, magazines,

catalogs, cardboard food boxes and even wrapping paper!

Fold one of your larger papers in half. Draw half a house shape.

Leave the paper folded and cut out your birdhouse shape. Glue

your birdhouse to your paper. Add GEOMETRIC SHAPES to

complete your birdhouse and bird: rectangles for the roof and

base, a circle for the door opening, a square for a window, half-

circles for the bird’s body and wings, circles for the head and

eye, and triangles for the beak and tail.

Next, cut out ORGANIC SHAPES for the botanical decorations

such as leaves and flowers. Glue on.

OPTIONAL MATERIALS You can leave your background white, or you

can use crayons or paint to add color.

Don’t have white paper to build your collage on?

Use colored paper or thin cardboard from a cereal

box instead.

Drawing paper Junk Mail Drawing utensil Scissors & Glue Crayons or paint (optional)

or ORGANIC.
