Hunting & FishingHunting season is a time when it is legal to hunt and kill a particular species of animal. In the United States, each state has primary responsibility and authority over the hunting of wildlife that resides within state boundaries. When the season is over they don’t allow anyone to hunt the same animal species typically because it is the animals breeding time. Fishing is also a liked hobby. Many students like to fish during the fall/winter months. To know more about how this hobby works we decided to interview 3 Students from 8th grade they shared their experiences with us this is what we found out...

Michael Dinan: Went fishing up in Minnesota last week. While fishing he caught a 5 lb Walleye. He says that it took him about 5 minutes to get it in the boat. He also hunts turkey during the month of april. (pictured on the left)

Rob Kronlage: He went hunting for Deer. He shared with us that when he went hunting with his dad during Youth Season he brought home a buck it had 6 points and he had his deer butchered by one of his Dad’s friends (pictured on the bottom right)Adam Oberbroeckling: He also went hunting for Deer. He unfortunately wasn’t able to kill a buck this time but he is planning to go back soon. Adam goes hunting near Luxemburg and he also shared with us that last year he brought home 2 bucks.

Mr. Sheston came in 1st

We asked Mr. Sheston a few questions and here is what he said, “I love teaching and that’s what I think makes my classes exciting.” He also added, “I try to mix things up in class and try my hardest to help the kids in class succeed.” He said, “I love to win, but you can’t always win, but it feels better to win than lose.” We asked him if he has any advice for other teachers and said, “Teach the students good test techniques.”

Ms. Speer was asked how she feels about getting second and said, “I feel very honored getting second. I love these kids and it’s nice to hear that they like me as well.” We also asked her what are some techniques you have for teaching and she responded with, “Biggest thing is to form relationships, to find out what they like and what they don’t like.”

We inquired Mr. Atwater about how he feels about getting third and responded with, “No comment.” He said that in a joking matter.

Fighting the Challenge There are people fighting breast cancer

everyday. This is a story of a person who has fought and won. Eileen Hoefler is this woman. She lives, works and owns Hoefler Dairy farm with her husband and there four kids.

She had stage 3 breast cancer for one year and during that time she had to fight. Eileen said, “ To beat it I had to be a fighter and have a lot of faith in God and my family and friends to help me through it.” With all of the support from the community she pulled through. Now she looks at life differently. “I never take things for granted anymore and each day is a gift from God.” said Eileen. She has been cancer free for four years and still is a non-stop worker.

Breast Cancer FactsBreast cancer kills about

41,400 woman a year. The chance of it killing a woman is 1 in 38 that have cancer. Breast cancer also kills about 480 men a year so it doesn’t just affect women. 2 out 100,000 men will die of breast cancer. Breast cancer is the third most deadly cancer and the 2nd most in woman.

Most people develop breast cancer around the age of 40 and up. In the U.S. about 1 in 8 or about 12.4% will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime. In 2018, an estimated 266,120 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected.

What Matters?: 7

A popular company known as Epic Games made a free game known as fortnite. The game was released July 25th, 2017. The game blew up overnight and Fortnite net worth is allegedly at 8 billion dollars. Even though the game is totally free, you can buy skins, game modes, and cosmetics. Recently Fortnite released a rare skin called the “Skull Trooper.” The skin was originally released in season 1 and they just recently re-released it in season 6 and supposably made 11 million dollars world wide from the skin.

On the other hand Isaac Barrick could care less about the new skin. In his opinion, it's not worth the $15 because it does not improve your gaming skills.

Adam Wedewer thinks that the skin is not fair to the OG players. He does think that it is worth it though because you can show off to your friends.

Sports: 9Beckman Junior High SportsBy:Jordan, Trent, Brady, Cayden, Landon, and Garrett.

So the Beckman Blazers are taking on the West Delaware and West Dubuque in a meet wrestling on November 13, 2018. Beckman did an outstanding job at that meet winning most of their matches. It would be Beckman’s third meet this year. The wrestlers have put so much time in this season with practice everyday working hard. Their coach, Mr. Atwater, has put the Blazers in a great spot to win matches and meets. Girls basketball has also started this month and they are being guided by coach Fred Martin and Mark Breitbach. They have had 4 games so far in their season. They have won one of the games and lost three.

Kaylee Lehmann from the seventh grade team says, “Our goal for the season is continuing to get better and win a few more games this year.” Hopefully the basketball team and the wrestling team can finish their season strong with their upcoming games and meets.

Above is Kaylee Lehmann.

On Tuesday October 2nd, 2018 a big rainstorm

came through Dyersville, Manchester, Farley, and New

Vienna. It caused a lot of flooding that damaged schools,

ball diamonds, soccer fields, homes, and blocked a lot of

roadways. Some people in the 8th grade class were

affected by the flooding. We interviewed some of them

and here is what Elyse White had to say, “My basement

got flooded. One of my sump pumps was broken, so we

fixed it so future flooding would be prevented. We used

a shop-vac to suck up the water and we had to tear out

our carpet.”

Charley Wulfekuhle also was affected by the

event: “It backed up our family field work and we had to

pump the manure pits out because they were filled with

water and overflowing. Our ceilings also leaked and we

had a hard time getting into our house because of the

flooding in the ditches and the bridge was covered in

water.”
