The other day I went to Wal-Mart to get one of those cell-phone holders/mounts that suction
cup to the windshield of the car for Emma. She has GPS on her cell phone but has no way to
securely mount it in her car. Whenever she tried to use her GPS function, the loose cell phone
became a big distraction while driving, which is terribly unsafe, especially for a new driver. So I
donned my mask, braved the pandemic, and went out to get a device that would help keep her
safe. Thankfully, I was able to purchase the last mount they had in stock, and it was on clearance,
so it was cheap - Bonus!
I went to the counter in electronics to pay for it and discovered the credit card reader was
mounted to the Plexiglass guard that separated me from the cashier. There we were, two
masked people, standing on opposite sides of a clear plastic barrier, communicating with
muffled speech and uncomfortable eye contact. It felt a little weird, maybe even overkill. Anyway,
as I inserted my credit card into the reader, we both discovered that it wasn’t mounted very
securely, and I thought I broke the whole apparatus for a moment. The cashier joked with me
and said, “Would you mind not breaking my credit card reader?” We both kind of chuckled, at
least I think. It’s hard to tell with masks on. So I said to her, “Oh, sorry, but this mask makes me
feel like a super hero. I guess my super hero strength came out.” Again, we both kind of
chuckled. We finished the transaction and I went on my way.
Not long after that, I saw a clip on TV of a man who refused to wear a mask in a store that
required them, and a physical altercation ensued. For some reason, the first thing I thought was,
“I wonder if he goes to church?” I think that came to mind because I’ve seen so many church
folks ranting on social media about having to wear masks. The ranting is bad enough, but to
actually get into a physical altercation? Can you imagine? What is happening to us? The Lord
and Savior we follow said, “Forgive them Father for they don’t know what they are doing” when
they were driving nails into his body, and we go berserk over minor public safety precautions.
Listen, I’m not trying to debate the efficacy of facemasks (see how I slipped in the word
“efficacy”) or the legitimacy of government to require us to wear facemasks, shirts or shoes to
receive service. Quite frankly, I don’t think efficacy or legitimacy are the issues. I think the issues
are humility, obedience and respect. The Bible tells us repeatedly to obey those in leadership,
and this obedience is not contingent upon our agreement with them. In the case of new rules
relating to the pandemic, I’m particularly drawn to Titus 3:1-2. In this passage, Paul says, “Remind
the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is
good, to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and always to be gentle toward

everyone.” How might the scene in that store have been different had the man heeded this
simple Biblical advice? How might social media posts be different? How might the way the
world views the church be different? (Also check out Romans 13:1-5, 1 Peter 2:13-14 and
Hebrews 13:17 regarding submitting to authority)
When I wear my facemask in public, it has nothing to do with me. I don’t wear it to protect
myself. I wear it to protect others, like the experts say. Are the experts right? I don’t know.
Enough of them are recommending it, so I’m going to follow their advice. The way I see it, the
best case scenario is it truly does protect those around me. Worst case, I wore a face mask when
I didn’t need to – big deal. More than anything, though, I wear a face mask in stores because
I’m asked to do so. I wear it to model that behavior for others. If I want others to practice
humility, obedience and respect, then I need to practice what I preach.
That’s what I want you to take away from this article – practice what you preach! This article is
not really about facemasks, pandemics or politics. It’s about Christians acting like Christ. It’s
about serving rather than being served (Mark10:45). It’s about loving one another as Jesus loves
us, so others will know we are his disciples (John 13:34-35). It’s about saying, and meaning,
“Forgive them Father for they don’t know what they are doing,” (Luke 23:34) even when they are
wrong. There’s never been a better time to put our faith into action, practice what we preach,
and love others the way Jesus loves us. That’s the life of a real super hero!
In His Service,
Pastor Mick

Healing God, we see the inequitable devastation to individuals, families, and communities from COVID-19.
For those who do not have the luxury of social distancing - sisters and brothers who are incarcerated, and living in nursing homes and residential facilities - Lord, in your mercy. Hear our prayer.
For those who have been forced to return home and shelter in place with unsafe conditions - sisters and brothers facing abuse and neglect - Lord, in your mercy. Hear our prayer.
For those who do not have the luxury to shelter at home because they don’t have a home- Lord, in your mercy. Hear our prayer.
For those who are terrified of their financial future, who have lost their jobs and are waiting for unemployment checks to arrive from being laid off - Lord, in your mercy. Hear our prayer.
For those whose jobs are essential, who daily are putting their health and the health of loved ones at risk - Lord, in your mercy. Hear our prayer.
For those who do not have the luxury of protecting themselves with hand sanitizer, gloves, and masks because there are none left to buy and shortages abound - Lord, in your mercy. Hear our prayer.
For those who do not have the luxury of stocking up on food and supplies because their income doesn’t provide for “extra” - Lord, in your mercy. Hear our prayer.
For those who are trying to explain this pandemic to little ones, to keep curiosity and learning alive, and constantly feel the guilt of not being present enough with family - Lord, in your mercy. Hear our prayer.
For those who are alone and lonely, with no one to pass the hours throughout the day - Lord, in your mercy. Hear our prayer.
For those who are grieving losses- the loss of time with friends, the loss of senior year milestones, the loss of hope - Lord, in your mercy. Hear our prayer.
And for those who are unsure how to grieve deaths of loved ones without a funeral, without seeing the body, and without being by their side- Lord, in your mercy. Hear our prayer.
For those who are struggling to breathe, alone and afraid, fighting COVID-19 - Lord, in your mercy. Hear our prayer.
For those who are on the front lines caring for the sick and grieving, who are short staffed, short on supplies, and short on hope - Lord, in your mercy. Hear our prayer.
For those who are making life-and-death decisions about the welfare of Ohioans and beyond, weighing the chaos of what to do about jobs, healthcare, education, safety, and our future - Lord, in your mercy. Hear our prayer.
Sustaining God, help us be courageous in comprehending the magnitude of each life lost, each risk taken, and each vulnerable person who does not have the luxuries of protection from COVID-19. Revive our hope in you, and our hope in the human connection. Amen. -Written by Rebecca Hug, Emerging Ministries Coordinator, West Ohio Conference

A New Sermon Series Starting June 7, 2020
It has certainly been an interesting time in our world. Who would have thought
we'd be in the midst of a pandemic. We recognize that through this difficult
time many are left feeling mentally, emotionally, and physically exhausted. Join
us on Sunday, June 7 as we begin a six-week sermon series and share heart-felt
messages that will give you hope and a new insight to all of the blessings God
has prepared for you.
We look forward to walking alongside you as, together, we catch a glimpse of a
transformed "Body of Christ" especially in the midst of trouble.

CarePartners is a ministry that provides intentional care to others.
A CarePartner is someone that walks alongside those who are hurting, who feel lonely or
discouraged, and those who need prayer, a listening ear, or an encouraging word. A CarePartner
is a spiritual friend who may be present in person, by phone, and/or through a card in the mail.
CarePartners also support one another as friends and mentors. A monthly meeting, and an
occasional seminar with guest speakers and teaching will help us to keep our skill set sharp.
A 6-week CarePartner Training is offered to those interested in becoming a CarePartner. The
Fall training session is Monday, September 21-October 26 from 6:30-8:00pm. Save the dates

"Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under
compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all
things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work." 2 Corinthians
9:7-8
I am so glad to see so many people signing up for the new method of giving on our website and
app. Prior to launching our church app, we used the online system Vanco for online giving. In an
effort to consolidate vendors and lower costs, we are phasing out of Vanco and moving our on-
line giving to our website and app platform called Subsplash. If you have used Vanco in the past
to regularly give financially, please log in to your Vanco account and cancel the recurring
transaction, then close your account.
Signing up for Subsplash is fairly quick and easy. You will be able to make a profile with your email
address and a password you create. You can use a debit or credit card or link it to your bank
account. Then, you can log in any time to make a donation, or set up a recurring gift weekly,
monthly, every two weeks, or twice a month. You may give to the General fund, or if you'd like to
donate to something else such as Harvest Table, Matt25, or a memorial gift, select the "Other"
Fund. Please be sure to write a memo about your gift!
Of course, if you'd like to give with a check or cash, you may mail it in or bring it to church on
Sundays or to the church office from 8:00am-5:00pm Monday through Friday.
Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or issues regarding your giving at 419-586-6621
or by email at [email protected].
Thank you all for your generosity and faithfulness during this unprecedented time!

Exciting news from Larry & Angie Overholt, WGM Honduras missionaries. For several months, they have sensed
God nudging them to prepare for a future change in their ministry direction. Angie said, "Even since before the
Covid-19 situation, they had planned on transitioning back to stateside ministry in June 2020". They are
assured that their circumstances now with the Covid pandemic are not coincidental and not unexpected by
God. Due to them being in a high-risk health category for Covid-19, they decided to leave Honduras sooner
than they had planned. They flew to Ohio on March 15th. They packed up their belongings overnight in a
matter of hours. There was very little time to grieve, leaving behind their friends and church family. There has
been no opportunity for closure.
Even though the Overholts are back in the United States, they are still working for WGM. Their location has
changed but their call to ministry has not. They are still considered missionaries, but now they are a part of the
America's region field team, covering all of North & South America. Support for the mission in Honduras as
well as Angie & Larry is still needed. Below are some current ways you can continue to support the ministries
established by the Overholt's in Honduras.
- In an effort to move the vocational & nursing school towards becoming self-sustainable, they plan to install a
solar electric system for each school. The amount of $3,000 has already been given towards the $15,000 goal
to finish Phase #1 of the system. (#35493)
- They continue to seek funding to meet the budget for the nursing school. They accepted 27 new 10th
graders. (#25643) Angie said , "Currently the students are working online from home. Many parents are off
work because of Covid and unable to pay tuition for the students."
-They still need help with the salaries of several people to continue the ministry outreach in the region: doing
errands & making purchases for the schools, helping with property maintenance, computer IT, & 4-H
outreach. The Overholts need about $1500/month to meet those salaries (#25492).
UPDATED PRAISE! The Overholt's had been working through the process of finalizing paperwork to ship two
containers from the U.S. full of equipment for the region, especially the nursing & vocation school. Praise the
Lord the containers are scheduled to arrive May 21st in Honduras. Larry has a
great relationship with the local mayor, who then used his connections to
speak with the Honduran President who signed off on the containers to come
through before all the paperwork was finalized.
If you'd like to support Larry & Angie, you can do so at
http://www.wgm.org. Select "give" then use one of the above project
numbers to support that specific project or you can search Larry & Angie by
their names. If you have any questions or need help submitting your
donation, contact Alison Sorenson, International Mission Coordinator for
Matt25 at 260-519-0688.

Vacation Bible School 2020 Rocky Railway
BIG CHANGES! Climb aboard for mountains of fun at Rocky Railway! On this faith-filled
adventure, kids discover that trusting Jesus pulls them through life’s ups and
downs. Due to the continued restrictions, we have made the hard decision
to move Rocky Railway to an “At Home” version. You can pick up the
supplies that you need for your children (school age & preschool) starting
June 22. All videos will be released on July 6 and will come down on August 7. We have 2 ideas
for how you can do VBS:
1. You can do it like a “normal” VBS where you do all the stations for each day and complete
the program in 5 days. This will take 90 minutes to 2 hours.
2. You can split it up and do 1 station of each theme (opening, Bible, imagination, games,
closing) and spread VBS out over 5 weeks. This would be 20 minutes/night!
You can expect some more information coming mid-June! If you have any questions or ideas
please see Matt O!
