Hey Division Eight! How do you feel?
Summertime has finally arrived, and I hope you all have a great break from
school to look forward to! It’s finally time for some relaxin, chillaxin, and playin some b-
ball! As for the seniors, you’ll be starting a new chapter in your lives. Everything will be
completely different, and as sad as it is to say goodbye, we send you off with a
heartfelt goodbye!
As the school year end, the key club year is just beginning! Key Club does not
stop! Even during the summer, projects, fundraisers, and divisional meetings are held!
It’ll be a great way to meet new people, especially at these summer events when
everyone attends! It’ll be fun and I hope to see you all there!
Yours in service and friendship,

Lieutenant Governor Greeting
Divisional Recap
At the June divisional on the 20th, we spoke about four main topics: the Divisional
Training Conference, the International Conference, Queens East Divisional Council meeting,
and Division 11's barbeque event! Criticisms and opinions were requested from each club,
and a survey was sent out all to get suggestions on how to improve for the Fall Rally! I then
continued to speak about what to look forward to in the International Conference. The very
next day of the Divisional meeting, Queens East Kiwanis held a Divisional Council Meeting,
where our very own East West High School of International Studies were given their Charter
Certificate! Then, the day right after that event, Division 11 invited us to their own Barbeque at
Fresh Meadow's Lake.
There was, however, a VERY important event that I forgot to speak about at my
divisional meeting, and that would be THE COLOR RUN. I actually heard about this event from
another key clubber while volunteering at different event, and the way he described it was
absolutely enticing! A very crude description would be a 5 km run filled with powers of a
variety of colors being thrown at you! Now, being a runner for both days have been sold out
for a while now, but if you're interested, sign up to be a volunteer! For more information, follow

End your summer by coming to the 3rd ANNUAL KIWANIS FAMILY PICNIC/BBQ!
For those of you who missed it last year, it was a huge success. We had 14 different Key Clubs, 12 Circle K
clubs (including NJ District Circle K ), 1 Builders Club and 4 Kiwanis clubs in attendance. We were also able to
raise $400 for the Kiwanis Pediatric Lyme Disease and this year we will be raising for Kamp Kiwanis: one of the
three NY District Kiwanis Foundation.
Have some fun outdoors playing different sports, participating in wheelbarrow races, water balloon
tosses(fights), competing in a frozen t-shirt contest among many other super exciting activities!
Admission will be set to:
$5 SLP (Circle K, Key Club, Builders Club, K-Kids)
$10 for Kiwanians
The price will include food!
Spread the word, all members of the K-Family are invited to attend!
If you need an address to put in the GPS, use 75-68 196 Place, but DO NOT actually go to that house. Exact
mapping of the location in the park coming soon!

Youth Opportunities Fund
The Youth Opportunities Fund (YOF) is an endowed
fund for Key Club International held within the
Kiwanis International Foundation. This fund uses
earned interest to help Key Clubs and Key Club
members serve the world by providing grants for
service opportunities. The fund also provides
academic scholarships for higher education. The
Youth Opportunities Fund is established through a
portion of your Key Club International dues and
through the purchase of G. Harold Martin
Fellowships. YOF grants can help you take action.
Look around and identify the things that need to
get done in your school, community or world.

Service Spotlight: Relay for Life
On June 8th, I went to Relay for Life at College Point with my
club. When we arrived, it seemed really depressing. There were
no kids our age, only adults and their small children. We picked
a remotely deserted place and we were sad to see that it
wasn’t like the Relay for Life at Bayside High School that we
went to last year. I brought a basketball and handball and we
started playing because there was not much else to do there.
We started sweating and having fun in the sun. Once we
finished with that, we went back to our spot and just relaxed.
We brought many packs of cards and we started playing our
favorite games such as Chinese Poker and Palace, but that
soon got repetitive. We just lied there after spraying bug spray
every five minutes, but I felt serene for awhile. I didn’t think that
the event was half bad and just started playing truth or dare
with my members. It felt a bit awkward at first, because we
were all friends, but not very close at all. Soon we started
chatting and things became smoother. It was a good way to
break the ice and get everybody involved. I’ve never felt so
close with my members and I felt like we were actually
bonding. We all had a good time because the scenery was
beautiful, the people were amazing, and the weather was
stunning. It was a perfect day for a perfect event.

Service Spotlight: Bayside Carwash
Bayside Key Clubbers Scrubbing Their Way through Summer Service
Summer may mark the end of the school year, but the service year
continues for Key Clubbers through the months of sunshine and
leisure. Bayside High School Key Club commenced another summer
of community service by holding two car washes at Bayside’s
Athletic Field on June 6th and June 8th. Members contributed by
creating posters to advertise the club and event on Brooklyn-Queens
Day, and invited both parents and faculty members to attend.
Through rain and shine, Key Clubbers hosed, scrubbed, and rinsed
down the cars of family, friends, and even Bayside High School
faculty. Through donations from generous visitors, the club raised well
over $300.
Justin Hernandez, Vice President of Bayside High School Key Club,
fondly recalls the atmosphere of the car wash. “It was great to see
members working alongside one another, giving back to the
community while making new friends.”
Other members agreed that the appeal and popularity of Key Club
was largely owed to the balance between service and enjoyment.
Clubs can involve all members by hosting simple and local events,
such as the car washes held at Bayside High, and encourage
newcomers to attend. Make sure to reach out to all Key Clubbers,
for they are future leaders yet to discover their potential.

Service Spotlight: March of Dimes
March of Dimes is an organization that focuses on
the awareness of premature babies. The
organization works toward making mothers have a
full term pregnancy to ensure that the child will be
born healthy. To raise this awareness, Francis Lewis
High School Key Club attended the March of
Dimes Walk on April 28 in Manhattan. We were
provided with a delightful breakfast from Dunkin
Donuts. We walked a total of three miles. Although
it seemed like it would be a long way, surprisingly it
came to a quick end. I suppose it was mainly
because all the Key Clubbers were having such a
great time interacting with one another.
Farewell Key Club
Hi! This is Alexa Diaz, ex-secretary of Cardozo's Key Club! Now that the
school year has come to an end, it is time to say goodbye to the fellow
Key Clubbers that I have come to know and befriend. I remember
showing up to my first meeting freshman year, knowing only one person.
It is so funny how this club has become such an important part of my life.
The board during that time was so inviting and friendly, making sure that
nobody felt left out. During my junior year, the decision to run for
secretary was made. Fortunately, I was given the opportunity to be
elected to that position. Even though it was quite a bit of work, I don't
regret running. I have come to know so many more people within my
school and will never forget the first time I went to LTC, the Halloween
Carnival in my school, and the walks we went on. It was all such a great
experience.
Game Corner: Sudoku
The second best thing to Key Club is Sudoku.
